  • The Ravens placed Mitchell (knee) on the reserve/PUP list Tuesday, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports. Mitchell is working his way back from a torn left ACL, and while his placement on the reserve/PUP list only officially rules him out for the first four games of the season, the second-year pro may not be to ready to retake the field until November. In any case, Derrick Henry is positioned to work as the clear No. 1 backfield option for Baltimore, while Justice Hill remains in town to handle pass-catching work. Rookie fifth-round pick Rasheen Ali (concussion) could work as the No. 3 man as long as Mitchell remains sidelined.

  • Mitchell (knee) will remain on the PUP list to start the regular season, ruling him out for at least four games, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. It's not surprising given the lack of updates on Mitchell's progress since he was placed on the PUP list at the start of training camp. He suffered an ACL tear in Week 15 of last season, ending an impressive run of performances in which he'd emerged as Baltimore's best backfield threat despite being an undrafted rookie. The team has since signed Derrick Henry and still has Justice Hill for passing downs, but Mitchell's speed could make him useful in a change-of-pace role at some point Week 5 or later this year.

  • The Ravens placed Mitchell (knee) on the PUP list Monday, Ryan Mink of the team's official site reports. Mitchell, who is working his way back from a left ACL tear suffered last December, will unsurprisingly have to begin training camp on the PUP list. He can be moved to the active roster at any time during training camp and the preseason, once he's ready to practice, but if he remains sidelined by the time Week 1 rolls around, Mitchell will need to be moved to the reserve/PUP list and thus miss a minimum of four games to start the season. The undersized speedster is competing for a role behind Derrick Henry out of the backfield.

  • Mitchell (knee) appears poised to work in a complementary role in the Baltimore backfield in 2024 after Derrick Henry agreed to a two-year contract with the Ravens on Tuesday, Brian Wacker of The Baltimore Sun reports. Mitchell and Justice Hill now become the top backups to Henry, a four-time Pro Bowler and two-time NFL rushing leader, while J.K. Dobbins (Achilles) appears set to leave Baltimore in free agency and Gus Edwards is slated to join the Chargers. Both Mitchell and Hill boast speed and pass-catching chops, making them worthy complements to Henry's overpowering rushing style, though Hill has the benefit of not needing to work his way back from an ACL tear. General manager Eric DeCosta said in February that he's confident Mitchell will work his way back from injury and contribute during the 2024 season, according to Jonas Shaffer of TheBaltimoreBanner.com, but the timing of Mitchell's injury -- which he suffered in December -- makes his availability for Week 1 uncertain. Mitchell showcased elusiveness and big-play potential in limited action as a rookie, so if he can avoid losing his quick-twitch ability in the rehab process, he could prove to be a valuable contributor behind Henry, when healthy.

  • The Ravens placed Mitchell (knee) on injured reserve Tuesday, Clifton Brown of the team's official site reports. The move is merely procedural after the Ravens confirmed Monday that Mitchell sustained a torn ACL in his left knee this past Sunday at Jacksonville. With Mitchell's season over and J.K. Dobbins (Achilles) also on IR, Gus Edwards and Justice Hill will handle most of the backfield reps moving forward, though Melvin Gordon was signed off the practice squad to the active roster in a corresponding move.
