Commanders' Matt Gay: Gets back to limited Thursday

Gay (back) was limited at Thursday's practice.

Gay missed the final session of Week 8 prep due to a back injury and then was ruled out ahead of Monday's eventual loss at Kansas City. Matthew Wright stepped in for Gay and made his only kick (a PAT), but the latter's return to practice three days later is a sign of progress for the seventh-year pro. Gay's listing on Friday's practice report will reveal whether or not he has a chance to play Sunday versus the Seahawks.

  • Packers' Brandon McManus: Gets back to full Thursday

McManus (right quadriceps) practiced fully Thursday.

This marks McManus' first uncapped practice since he tweaked his right quad during the first practice of Week 6 prep. After missing two games due to the injury, he returned this past Sunday at Pittsburgh and connected on two of four field-goal attempts and all three point-after tries. The Packers now have two healthy placekickers on the active roster in McManus and Lucas Havrisik, but with McManus in the clear, he'll operate as the team's top option Sunday against the Panthers.

  • Matt Prater K | BUF

Bills' Matt Prater: Another limited practice Thursday

Prater (right calf) remained a limited participant at Thursday's practice.

Prater has logged consecutive limited sessions to begin preparations for Sunday's home game against the Chiefs. Tyler Bass (hip) remains on injured reserve and hasn't had his window to return to practice opened yet, so Prater's set to remain Buffalo's kicker in Week 9 if healthy enough to play.

Bills' Matt Prater: Dealing with calf injury

Prater was limited in Wednesday's practice due to a calf injury in his kicking leg.

It's unclear when Prater sustained the injury, though it was likely during the Bills' Week 8 win over the Panthers, when he made all six of his kicks (two field goals and four PATs). He has served as the Bills' starting kicker through the first seven games of the regular season due to Tyler Bass (hip) being on injured reserve, and Buffalo does not currently have a place kicker on the practice squad. Prater will have two more opportunities to increase his practice participation heading into Sunday's game against the Chiefs.

  • Packers' Brandon McManus: Limited Wednesday

McManus (right quadriceps) practiced on a limited basis Wednesday.

McManus was cleared to kick this past Sunday in Pittsburgh for the first time since Week 4, but the results were tepid, as he missed his first two field-goal attempts from 57 and 44 yards. He made amends in the second half by connecting on both point-after tries and then a pair of much shorter FGAs (28 and 25 yards). The Packers continue to keep Lucas Havrisik on the active roster, but it appears McManus will handle placekicking duties on game days as long as the training staff clears him to do so.

Commanders' Matt Gay: No practice Wednesday

Commanders coach Dan Quinn said Wednesday that Gay (back) will not practice, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.

Gay was a late scratch for Washington's loss to the Chiefs on Monday, which prompted the team to sign Matthew Wright to the practice squad and elevate him for game day. Wright did not attempt a field goal and made his only extra-point try during the loss to Kansas City, and he'll stand to be elevated again versus the Seahawks on Sunday if Gay isn't able to return to full health in time to play Week 9.

  • Chiefs' Harrison Butker: Boots four extra points in victory

Butker converted all four of his extra-point tries and didn't attempt a field goal in Monday's 28-7 win over the Commanders.

It was a relatively quiet night for Butker with Kansas City getting into the end zone four times. It was the second time this season Butker has finished a contest without a made field goal. He's 12-for-15 on field-goal tries this season.

  • Commanders' Matthew Wright: Miniscule workload during MNF

Wright did not attempt a field goal and made his only extra-point try in Monday night's 28-7 loss to the Chiefs.

Wright was elevated from the practice squad to start in place of Matt Gay (back) in Week 8, but he ultimately wasn't overly busy in the defeat. The kicker has now made two spot starts with the Titans and Commanders this season, making his only field-goal attempt while going 2-for-2 on PATs. If Gay is unavailable for Washington's Week 9 matchup with the Seahawks, Wright would likely be elevated again.

  • Commanders' Matthew Wright: Making spot start for Commanders

Washington signed Wright to the practice squad Monday and elevated him to the active roster to handle placekicking duties in place of Matt Gay (back) versus the Chiefs.

Wright, who made a start for the Titans in Week 6 but was then cut from Tennessee's practice squad on Oct. 17, now will hold down the fort at kicker for the Commanders for at least one game. He was perfect in limited action for the Titans, converting his only field-goal try and his lone extra-point attempt. If Gay's injury keeps him sidelined more than one contest, Wright could get another chance to kick Week 9 versus Seattle.

Commanders' Matt Gay: Ruled out for MNF

Gay (back) has been downgraded to out for Monday's game against the Chiefs.

Gay will miss Week 8 due to a lingering back injury, with Washington instead elevating Matthew Wright from the practice squad to handle placekicker duties. It remains to be seen whether Gay's injury could force him to miss any more time, but his next chance to take the field will come Week 9 at home against the Seahawks on Sunday, Nov. 2.
