  • Marcus Mariota QB | WAS

Raiders' Marcus Mariota: Designated to return

Mariota (pectoral) participated in practice Wednesday, indicating the Raiders have designated him to return from IR.

Mariota could be active for Sunday's game against the Bills and serve as Derek Carr's backup. Carr has been a solid QB thus far with 7.8 yards per attempt while completing 74 percent of passes, so Mariota likely won't see any playing time unless Carr suffers an injury.

  • 49ers' Jimmy Garoppolo: Won't practice Wednesday

Coach Kyle Shanahan said that Garoppolo (ankle) won't practice Wednesday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.

Earlier this week, Shanahan expressed optimism about Garoppolo's chances of practicing Wednesday, but the signal-caller's high right ankle sprain hasn't yet progressed enough for him to resume handling on-field drills. Backup Nick Mullens performed admirably while leading the 49ers to a win over the Giants in Week 3, and he'll likely get another chance to start against the Eagles on Sunday unless Garoppolo makes a quick turnaround.

  • Tyrod Taylor QB | GB

Chargers' Tyrod Taylor: Won't practice Wednesday

Taylor (chest) won't practice Wednesday, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.

Though the Chargers haven't ruled Taylor out for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, he's still expected to remain sidelined for a third straight game while Justin Herbert picks up another start at quarterback. Herbert will thus take first-team practice reps Wednesday, while the Chargers continue to view Taylor as week-to-week, per Gilbert Manzano of The Orange County Register.

  • Ryan Tannehill QB | TEN

Titans' Ryan Tannehill: Titans-Steelers to be rescheduled

Tannehill and the Titans won't be in line to play Sunday against the Steelers after the NFL announced the game would be rescheduled for Monday or Tuesday.

The postponement arrives after four Titans players and five team personnel members tested positive for COVID-19, according to ESPN.com. As a result of the outbreak, the Titans have closed their team facilities until Saturday.

  • Tua Tagovailoa QB | ATL

Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Missing practice with illness

Dolphins head coach Brian Flores said Tagovailoa wouldn't practice Wednesday due to a non-COVID-19-related illness, Hal Habib of The Palm Beach Post reports.

The Dolphins are hopeful that a day off will be all Tagovailoa needs to move past the ailment, but he'll likely have to return to practice in some fashion Thursday or Friday to gain clearance for Sunday's game against the Seahawks. If the rookie isn't ready to fill his normal No. 2 role behind starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, Miami could promote Reid Sinnett from the practice squad to serve as its Week 4 backup.

  • Cooper Rush QB | BAL

Cooper Rush: Drops from practice squad

The Giants cut Rush from the practice squad Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Rush followed Giants offensive coordinator Jason Garrett from Dallas to the Big Apple, but after three weeks, the QB was let go in favor of Clayton Thorson. Rush will seek a new practice squad role elsewhere.

  • Jeff Driskel QB | WAS

Broncos' Jeff Driskel: Move to backup role confirmed

Denver head coach Vic Fangio named Brett Rypien the starting quarterback for Thursday's game against the Jets, leaving Driskel in line to fill a backup role, Aric DiLalla of the team's official site reports.

Starting Week 3 in place of an injured Drew Lock (shoulder), Driskel struggled to move the offense in a 28-10 loss to the Buccaneers, completing 17 of 30 attempts for 176 yards, one touchdown and an interception. Midway through the the fourth quarter, Fangio pulled Driskel in favor of Rypien, who completed eight straight passes before throwing a fourth-down interception on Denver's final possession of the day. The Broncos were satisfied enough with how Rypien performed prior to the turnover, so he'll get the keys to the offense over Driskel in Week 4. Since Lock remains out and the newly signed Blake Bortles hasn't had much time to get familiar with Denver's playbook, Driskel is still likely to serve as the No. 2 option behind Rypien.

  • Brett Rypien QB | MIN

Broncos' Brett Rypien: Confirmed starter against Jets

Coach Vic Fangio named Rypien the starting quarterback for Thursday's game versus the Jets, Ryan O'Halloran of The Denver Post reports.

Drew Lock (shoulder) will remain sidelined for a second straight week, affording Rypien an opportunity to make his first NFL start. Rypien made his NFL debut in Week 3's loss to the Buccaneers after Jeff Driskel couldn't produce, and he looked serviceable, completing his first eight passing attempts for 53 yards before tossing an interception. Fangio did relay that Driskel could still be used in the offense, according to James Palmer of NFL Network, but Rypien will get the first chance against a Jets defense that ranks 15th with 239 passing yards allowed per game.

  • Jeff Driskel QB | WAS

Broncos' Jeff Driskel: Likely returning to backup role

Driskel will likely serve in a backup role Thursday against the Jets, as the Broncos are expected to name Brett Rypien as their starting quarterback for the Week 4 matchup, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.

Head coach Vic Fangio likely won't announce a Week 4 starter until later Tuesday or at some point Wednesday, but Driskel's run atop Denver's depth chart looks like it will come to an end after one game. Filling in during Week 3 for an injured Drew Lock (shoulder), Driskel completed 17 of 30 attempts for 176 yards, a touchdown and an interception in Sunday's 28-10 loss to the Buccaneers before giving way to Rypien in the fourth quarter. Though he was only under center for one possession, Rypien moved the offense well, completing his first eight pass attempts for 59 yards before tossing a red-zone interception on fourth down. Assuming Rypien is indeed named the team's new starter, Driskel could still serve as the No. 2 option Thursday, as Lock remains sidelined and the recently signed Blake Bortles may need more time to get up to speed with Denver's playbook.

  • Brett Rypien QB | MIN

Broncos' Brett Rypien: Frontrunner for Week 4 start

The Broncos have yet to name a starting quarterback for Thursday's game against the Jets, but Rypien is expected to receive the assignment, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.

With top signal-caller Drew Lock (shoulder) set to miss a second straight game Week 4 and with coach Vic Fangio deeming the newly signed Blake Bortles as not being ready to start, Rypien and Jeff Driskel are the candidates to direct the Denver offense against New York. Driskel flopped while starting in place of Lock in the Broncos' 28-10 loss to Tampa Bay in Week 3, completing 17 of 30 attempts for 176 yards, a touchdown and an interception before being benched in the fourth quarter in favor of Rypien. While Rypien didn't produce points on his lone drive, he proved to be more efficient, completing his first eight pass attempts for 53 yards before throwing a red-zone interception on fourth down. The respectable relief performance looks like it will be enough for Rypien to earn his first NFL start, but expect the Broncos to rely on a conservative, run-heavy offensive script Thursday, if the game flow allows for it.
