  • Sam Darnold QB | SEA

Jets' Sam Darnold: Possible starter Thursday

Darnold was spotted Monday with his left ring finger wrapped, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.

It's presumably a minor concern, stemming from the QB's hand getting stepped on during Friday's preseason game. In fact, ESPN's Rich Cimini relays that while Darnold remained third in the team's QB rotation behind Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater on Sunday, he took the majority of the first-team QB reps at practice, suggesting that he might start Thursday night's game against Washington.

  • Bills' Nathan Peterman: Back at practice following injury scare

Peterman will practice Monday after suffering a minor arm injury during Sunday's practice, Joe Buscaglia of WKBW.com reports.

The Bills got a scare when both of their top two quarterbacks went down Sunday, but in the end both were just minor issues and Peterman and AJ McCarron are set to resume their battle to win the starting job.

  • Sam Bradford QB | MIN

Cardinals' Sam Bradford: Completes one pass in debut

Bradford played 10 of 54 offensive snaps during Saturday's 24-17 preseason win against the Chargers.

The Cardinals were deliberate during their first offensive possession, ordering up seven runs versus just one pass. A six-yard connection between Bradford and tight end Ricky Seals-Jones aside, the combination of David Johnson and rookie Chase Edmonds marched the Cards 45 yards across nearly six minutes. Offensive coordinator Mike McCoy is smart to play to his strengths, but the sample size isn't enough to assume Bradford won't air it out this year, likely in some sort of quick passing attack with Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald acting as the primary targets.

  • Eagles' Christian Hackenberg: Inks deal with defending champs

The Eagles signed Hackenberg to a contract Sunday, Tim McManus of ESPN.com reports.

Philadelphia is an interesting landing spot for Hackenberg. Upon his arrival, he may receive a far amount of snaps with Carson Wentz (knee) and Nick Foles (neck) on the mend. That said, it'd be a surprise if Hackenberg beats out Nate Sudfeld for the No. 3 job due to his experience in the system.

  • Bills' Nathan Peterman: Injures throwing arm

Peterman injured his right arm during Sunday's practice, Mike Rodak of ESPN.com reports.

Peterman didn't take any practice reps after falling awkwardly on his throwing arm, but the training staff did have the quarterback toss the ball under their supervision, per Joe Buscaglia of WKBW.com. The issue comes on the heels of fellow quarterback AJ McCarron suffering an apparent lower right leg injury, which was stretched out multiple times by the trainers. The severity of both concerns is unknown, but rookie Josh Allen may now have the chance he needs to stake a claim to the top job.

  • Geno Smith QB | NYJ

Chargers' Geno Smith: Throws for 218 yards in Chargers debut

Smith was 14-of-23 passing for 218 yards with a touchdown and an interception in Saturday's preseason loss to Arizona.

Smith is battling Cardale Jones for the backup job to Philip Rivers. Jones got the start with Rivers sitting out. While Smith was more impressive, he faced the second- and third-string defenses. The backup quarterback role may not be decided until late in the preseason.

  • Cardale Jones QB | LAC

Chargers' Cardale Jones: Mediocre in preseason start

Jones started at quarterback and was 6-of-12 passing for 50 yards without a touchdown or interception in Saturday's preseason loss to the Cardinals.

Jones was outplayed by Geno Smith (218 yards passing with a touchdown and interception) as the two battle for the backup job, though neither was overly impressive. The backup role may not be decided until late in the preseason.

  • Kirk Cousins QB | LV

Vikings' Kirk Cousins: Leads scoring drive in preseason debut

Cousins made his Vikings debut during Saturday's preseason game against the Broncos and completed all four of the passes he threw for 42 yards and one touchdown.

Cousins only got one drive but he certainly made the most of it, especially given his matchup with the Broncos' stout defense. The highlight of his day was a beautiful 28-yard dime to Stefon Diggs that set up Cousins' first career touchdown as a Viking. The quarterback will look to continue his impressive play during Minnesota's second preseason game next Saturday against the Jaguars.

  • Deshaun Watson QB | CLE

Texans' Deshaun Watson: Feels good after return

Watson said he wasn't feeling any adverse effects following Thursday's preseason opener against the Chiefs, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

The preseason opener was Watson's first game action since tearing his anterior cruciate ligament last season. He played just five snaps and was upbeat when he returned to practice Saturday. "I feel good," Watson said. "Didn't really play too long, so it was decent. I just played five snaps, handed the ball off, threw one pass." Watson should get more reps in the second preseason game, Saturday at home against the 49ers.

  • Jets' Teddy Bridgewater: Sharp in Jets debut

Bridgewater made his Jets debut in Friday's preseason opener. He completed seven of eight passes for 85 yards and a touchdown while adding a three-yard run in a 17-0 win over the Falcons.

Bridgewater entered on New York's second possession after Josh McCown got the start. He threw a 16-yard touchdown to Isaiah Crowell on his lone drive with the starting offensive linemen, then produced a field goal on the next possession before exiting in favor of Sam Darnold. McCown remains the slight favorite in New York's three-man quarterback race, but the finally healthy Bridgewater looks poised to give McCown a serious run for his money judging by this impressive performance.
