    Clayton Tune: Heading to Green Bay

    The Packers signed Tune to the practice squad Thursday.

    The Cardinals opted to go with two quarterbacks in Kyler Murray and Jacoby Brissett on the 53-man roster, making Tune the odd man out. Rather than stay in Arizona on the practice squad, Tune will instead head to Green Bay, where he would be in line to be elevated to the Packers' active roster were Jordan Love or Malik Willis miss any time.

    Kedon Slovis: Added to Arizona's practice squad

    The Cardinals signed Slovis to the practice squad Thursday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.

    Slovis wasn't able to crack the Texans' 53-man roster at the end of training camp, but he'll get a new opportunity with the Cardinals on the practice squad. The BYU product would be in line to be elevated to the active roster if Kyler Murray or Jacoby Brissett were to miss time.

    Bailey Zappe: Signs to Browns' practice squad

    Cleveland signed Zappe to the practice squad Thursday.

    Zappe suited up for and started one game for Cleveland during the 2024 regular season, completing 16 of 31 pass attempts for 170 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He also rushed twice for two yards. The 2022 fourth-round pick, who began his NFL career with New England, will remain with the Browns as an emergency option at quarterback.

  • Browns' Shedeur Sanders: Beginning season as No. 3 QB

    Coach Kevin Stefanski noted Thursday that Sanders is in line to be the Browns' emergency third QB on game days, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.

    While the Browns have added Bailey Zappe to their practice squad, the plan remains for Sanders to be the team's No. 3 QB out of the gate this season. With Kenny Pickett now with the Raiders, Dillon Gabriel will open up the campaign as Joe Flacco's top backup.

    Steelers' Will Howard: Sent to IR

    The Steelers placed Howard (hand) on injured reserve Thursday, Teresa Varley of the team's official site reports.

    Howard will have to miss at least the first four games of the regular season as he works his way back from a fractured bone in his left hand suffered during practice Aug. 5. That injury caused him to miss the entire preseason. Once healthy, the rookie sixth-round pick figures to operate as Pittsburgh's emergency No. 3 quarterback behind Aaron Rodgers and Mason Rudolph.

    Hendon Hooker: Joins Panthers' practice squad

    Carolina signed Hooker to the practice squad Thursday, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports.

    Hooker was waived by Detroit on Monday, and the 2023 third-round pick will now get a chance to restart his development with the Panthers as an reserve option at quarterback on the practice squad, behind starter Bryce Young and backup Andy Dalton. He could operate as Carolina's emergency No. 3 quarterback this season.

    Easton Stick: Practice squad QB for Atlanta

    The Falcons signed Stick to the practice squad Wednesday, Terrin Waack of the team's official site reports.

    The Falcons opted to go with two quarterbacks on the main roster with Michael Penix and Kirk Cousins, so Stick will start the season on the team's practice squad. Stick finished the preseason completing 69.2 percent of his passes for 520 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions while adding five carries for 32 yards across three games.

    Brady Cook: Remains on practice squad

    Cook signed with the Jets' practice squad Wednesday.

    Cook joined the Jets as an undrafted free agent in April after throwing for 2,535 yards, 11 touchdowns and two interceptions in addition to rushing 87 times for 223 yards and five touchdowns during his final season at Missouri. The 23-year-old quarterback completed 25 of 38 passes for 235 yards (6.2 YPA), a touchdown and an interception during the preseason. The Jets are sticking with just two quarterbacks -- Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor (knee) -- to begin the year.

    Jake Haener: Reunites with New Orleans

    The Saints signed Haener to the practice squad Wednesday,Luke Johnson of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

    Haener lost his roster spot Tuesday after beginning the preseason in a competition to be the Saints' starter. New Orleans currently has only Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough on its active roster, so Haener may be elevated for game days.

  • Hunter Dekkers: Joins practice squad

    The Saints signed Dekkers to the practice squad Wednesday, Luke Johnson of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

    Dekkers bounced on and off the Saints' roster throughout the preseason but ultimately was waived on Aug. 14. He'll presumably find a more permanent place on the practice squad.
