Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith expressed disappointment Monday that the team has given him no assurance that he will remain the starter upon the eventual return of Mark Sanchez.

Smith said he would "of course" prefer such a commitment. "But in this situation, you gotta play the hand that you're dealt," he told the New York Post. "In my own personal time here, I think I've been treated fairly well, and I think I've been given a great chance."

Rex Ryan defended his decision to forego the opportunity to name Smith the permanent starter.

"I think you get in trouble when you put dates and all that kind of stuff on things, instead of just focus on the one week," Ryan said.

Smith regressed in Week 2 by completing just 15 of 35 passes with three interceptions and no touchdowns in a loss to New England.

Despite an 0-2 start, Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said Monday he remains committed to quarterback Robert Griffin III and is not turning the starting quarterback job over to Kirk Cousins.

"We’ve got a lot of confidence in Robert," Shanahan said, per The Washington Post. "If we didn’t feel that way, he wouldn’t be in there."

Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert, who sat out Week 2 with a hand injury, hasn't ruled himself out for Week 3 at Seattle, but added "you have to practice to play," according to The Florida Times-Union.

Coach Gus Bradley said he doesn't expect Gabbert to play Week 3.

Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith showed restraint on Friday when asked about Mark Sanchez claiming he won the preseason quarterback derby. Smith simply offered that it was Sanchez' opinion and declined to comment when asked about the accuracy of the statement, according to the New York Post.

A winner of the competition never needed to be declared after Sanchez was sidelined with a shoulder injury that now has him on the short-term injured reserve list.

Jason Campbell entered the game Sunday for the Browns after starting quarterback Brandon Weeden hurt his thumb. But that doesn't mean Campbell is set to start in Minnesota next week if Weeden can't play.

Rob Chudzinski tossed Brian Hoyer into the mix Monday when asked about a possible replacement for Weeden, according to the Associated Press. The Browns signed Hoyer to a two-year contract in mid-May.

Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson did just enough to manage the game and lead his team to victory Sunday night at home against the 49ers.

Wilson brushed off a first quarter interception as he hooked up with Marshawn Lynch for a short, 7-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. He completed 8 of 19 passes for 142 yards with one touchdown and one interception in a 29-3 victory. He was sacked three times and finished with a 63.9 passer rating. He also rushed for 33 yards on 10 carries.

Wilson has completed 33 of 52 passes for 462 yards with two touchdowns and one interception through two games. He'll look to keep things going in Week 3 at home against the Jaguars. Jacksonville allowed 126 passing yards to Terrelle Pryor in Week 2.

Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford tossed two touchdowns against the Cardinals Week 2.

Stafford connected with top target Calvin Johnson for both touchdowns. He finished 24 for 36 with 278 yards. Stafford did not throw any interceptions, but did lose a fumble.

Rams quarterback Sam Bradford had a rough first half Week 2 at Atlanta, facing heavy pressure and long odds with the Rams beginning every drive at or inside their 20-yard line. But the short passes that led to short gains early on eventually became more effective, allowing him to stretch the field a couple times.

He finished with 352 yards through the air -- the second-most of his career -- and equaled a career high with three touchdown passes, including two to rookie wide receiver Tavon Austin. He completed 32 of 55 passes in all. He was also a factor of his legs, picking up 25 yards on three carries.

His one mistake really wasn't his mistake at all. A short pass early in the second quarter bounced off the hands of running back Daryl Richardson and high in the air, giving Falcons defensive lineman Osi Umenyiora an easy catch and open lane to the end zone.

Bradford may have another opportunity to air it out when the Rams visit Tony Romo, Dez Bryant and the Cowboys' prolific passing attack in Week 3.

Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill topped the 300-yard passing mark Sunday, in a 24-20 win over the Colts in Week 2.

Following up his solid season opener, Tannehill was even better this time around. He completed 23 of 34 passes for 319 yards, and he got No. 1 wideout Mike Wallace involved early this time around. Tannehill opened the game with an 18-yard score to Wallace on the team's first drive.

Tannehill managed to avoid throwing an interception despite putting up 34 attempts, just the fourth time in 10 attempts that he has attempted more than 30 passes without being picked off. He did fumble the ball three times, one of which he lost. 

Tannehill will try to keep the solid start of his sophomore campaign going in Week 3, and he will likely have to put the ball in the air a lot yet again. The Dolphins take on the Falcons next Sunday.

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers tied the Green Bay franchise record with 480 passing yards, setting his own career high along the way, in the Week 2 blowout win at home over Washington, 38-20.

Rodgers threw all over the Washington secondary on the day as he went 34 for 42 for 480 with four touchdown passes. Rodgers threw a 35-yard TD strike to Randall Cobb in the first quarter, added two more TD passes to Jordy Nelson and Jermichael Finley in the second quarter, and finished strong with a 15-yard TD to Nelson in the third. He didn't score in the fourth, but did enough to hold off the Redskins.

Rodgers, who also rushed three times for minus-3 yards, was not picked off in the game and finished with a QB rating of 146.0. Rodgers is up to seven touchdown passes and just one pick this season after two games and has thrown for 813 yards combined in those games. The Packers play at Cincinnati Week 3.
