  • Mac Jones QB | SF

Jaguars' Mac Jones: Sharp in preseason start

Jones completed 16 of 23 passes for 210 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions and added six rushes for 14 yards in the Jaguars' 20-7 preseason win over the Buccaneers.

Jones started and played the entire first half and returned for the fourth quarter after C.J. Beathard (groin) got injured. The 2021 first-round pick of the Patriots, who's looking for a career reset in Jacksonville as Trevor Lawrence's backup, was impressive throughout, and he connected with Parker Washington (25 yards) and Brevin Easton (31 yards) for his pair of touchdown tosses. The two scoring drives spanned 17 and eight plays, confidence-building marches that Jones was able to navigate without turnovers. Jones is likely to see a solid amount of playing time once again in the preseason finale against the Falcons in Atlanta on Friday night.

  • Easton Stick QB | ATL

Chargers' Easton Stick: Struggles yet again

Stick completed eight of his 13 attempts for 85 yards and an interception in Saturday's 13-9 preseason loss to the Rams. He also carried the ball five times for 22 yards, but he did record a fumble.

That's now two bad showings for Stick, who seemed to have the backup quarterback job behind Justin Herbert (foot) locked up at the start of the preseason. It's unclear if the fifth-year veteran is really at risk of losing the positional battle despite the poor outings as projected third-string quarterback, Max Duggan, was a healthy inactive Saturday while training camp addition Luis Perez also struggled to some extent (13 of 20 for 78 yards and a fumble). Stick figures to have one more chance to solidify his standing on the active roster in the team's final preseason game against the Cowboys.

  • Josh Allen QB | BUF

    Bills' Josh Allen: Sits Saturday

Allen did not participate in Saturday's 9-3 preseason win over the Steelers.

Allen was set to play well into the second quarter along with the entire starting offense. While most of the unit did take the field, Allen remained on the sideline in a ball cap with no pads. No official reason was given, but Buffalo likely pivoted its plans due to wet field conditions after rain came through Pittsburgh just before kickoff. As one of the most proven quarterbacks in the league, Allen doesn't necessarily need to appear in preseason action, though he does have a remade receiving corps. That could mean that he plays at least a few possessions in the team's final preseason contest next Saturday against Carolina.

  • Jayden Daniels QB | WAS

Commanders' Jayden Daniels: Another encouraging effort in loss

Daniels completed 10 of 12 passes for 78 yards and rushed twice for 13 yards in the Commanders' 13-6 preseason loss to the Dolphins on Saturday night.

The rookie followed up an encouraging but brief appearance in the Commanders' preseason opener against the Jets with an even better performance Saturday night. Daniels played on Washington's first two series and remained busy throughout, having a hand in eight consecutive plays on the opening possession after Brian Robinson logged the first touch from scrimmage. Daniels led the team into field-goal territory on both drives, although placekicker Riley Patterson was able to make good on only one of those opportunities. Nevertheless, it was yet another feather in the summertime cap of the second overall pick, who appears ready to handle the challenge of the NFL regular season.

  • John Wolford QB | MIN

Buccaneers' John Wolford: Hurts ribs in second preseason game

Wolford suffered a rib injury during Saturday's exhibition loss to Jacksonville, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.

Baker Mayfield didn't suit up for the contest, leaving Kyle Trask to play the first half and Wolford to handle the second. The latter couldn't complete the fourth quarter, as he was injured on a roughing the passer penalty with less than two minutes remaining, resulting in Trask reentering the game. Head coach Todd Bowles said after the matchup that he isn't sure how severe Wolford's injury is, but if the QB needs to miss the team's final exhibition game next Friday against Miami, his outside chance of unseating Trask for the backup role behind Mayfield could come to an end. As it is, Trask had the better performance Saturday, completing 12 of 19 pass attempts for 108 yards and a touchdown and adding one rush for four yards while Wolford completed just seven of 14 passes for 52 yards with no scores.

  • Tua Tagovailoa QB | ATL

Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Sharp in Saturday's cameo

Tagovailoa completed all five passes for 51 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in the Dolphins' 13-6 preseason win over the Commanders on Saturday night.

Tagovailoa drew the start as planned, and even though he was operating without Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and Odell Beckham (undisclosed), the fifth-year signal-caller still put together a flawless drive from his perspective. The 2020 first-round pick capped off the 11-play, 61-yard march with a 13-yard touchdown pass to River Cracraft, putting an early and successful end to his night. It remains to be seen if Saturday's brief appearance will represent the extent of Tagovailoa's preseason action, but he'll have one more chance to take the field before Week 1 in Friday night's road exhibition finale against the Buccaneers.

  • C.J. Beathard QB | JAC

Jaguars' C.J. Beathard: Suffers groin injury

Beathard injured his groin during Saturday's exhibition game against Tampa Bay and has been ruled out from returning, John Shipley of SI.com reports.

Trevor Lawrence didn't suit up Saturday, and Beathard entered as the second quarterback following Mac Jones. Beathard played the entire third quarter but was sacked on the final play of the period, and Jones reentered on Jacksonville's first series of the fourth. Jones and Beathard are battling for the backup QB role behind Trevor Lawrence, and Beathard could have his opportunity for that role diminish greatly if he's unable to take the field for the team's final preseason game Friday versus Atlanta. Beathard finished Saturday's contest having gone 5-for-7 for 40 passing yards while rushing twice for 10 yards. Meanwhile, Jones completed 16 of 23 pass attempts for 210 yards and two touchdowns while rushing six times for 14 yards. Neither quarterback threw an interception.

  • Browns' Dorian Thompson-Robinson: Mixed bag in Saturday's start

Thompson-Robinson completed 13 of 17 passes for 126 yards and an interception in Saturday's 27-12 preseason loss to the Vikings.

The Browns sat their starters and key reserves for this one, and Thompson-Robinson got the start over Tyler Huntley as the duo compete for the No. 3 spot on the quarterback depth chart. Thompson-Robinson was efficient and led a touchdown drive on Cleveland's opening possession, but he also ended his day with an interception in the red zone during a two-minute drill just before halftime. Huntley got picked off twice in the second half, however, providing little clarity on the job battle.

  • Dak Prescott QB | DAL

Cowboys' Dak Prescott: Not playing Saturday

Prescott isn't in uniform ahead of Saturday's preseason game at Las Vegas, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.

Prescott sat out the Cowboys' exhibition opener last Sunday against the Rams due to a sore ankle, but he was able to return to practice Tuesday and participate fully one day later. Nonetheless, coach Mike McCarthy will opt to keep Prescott and likely a number of other starters on the sideline this weekend. Prescott is coming off a 2023 campaign in which he tossed for 4,516 yards, 36 touchdowns and nine interceptions while rushing for 242 yards and two more scores in 17 regular-season contests.

  • Jaren Hall QB | SEA

Vikings' Jaren Hall: Two TDs against Cleveland

Hall completed four of five passes for 87 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's 27-12 preseason win over the Browns.

J.J. McCarthy's season-ending knee injury moved Hall up to the No. 3 spot on the Vikings' depth chart at quarterback, and the 26-year-old likely locked down that job with his performance Saturday. Taking over from Nick Mullens to begin the second half, Hall connected with Malik Knowles for a one-yard touchdown on his very first pass of the game, then found Jeshaun Jones for a 71-yard catch-and-run early in the fourth quarter. Barring further injuries to the Minnesota QB room, Hall isn't likely to see action during the regular season.
