  • Andy Dalton QB | PHI

Panthers' Andy Dalton: Set for Week 3 start

Dalton is slated to start Sunday's road matchup against the Seahawks with top quarterback Bryce Young (ankle) ruled out, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.

Dalton has worked with Carolina's first-team offense in practice all week with Young sidelined, so he should be prepared for his first start in a Panthers uniform. The 35-year-old veteran showcased accuracy and efficiency across his 14 starts with the Saints last season, but he now faces the challenge of managing a different wide receiver corps headlined by Adam Thielen, DJ Chark and Jonathan Mingo. Considering that Young ranks last among qualified QBs with 4.2 yards per attempt through the first two games of the season, though, Dalton stepping in under center could provide a modest boost for Carolina's passing offense.

  • Bryce Young QB | CAR

Panthers' Bryce Young: Won't play Sunday

Young (ankle) didn't participate in Friday's practice and has been ruled out for Sunday's road game against the Seahawks, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.

As a result, Andy Dalton will start at QB for the Panthers, with Jake Luton expected to be elevated from the practice squad to serve as the team's backup Week 3. Young will now target a potential return to action when Carolina plays Minnesota on Sunday, Oct. 1.

  • C.J. Stroud QB | HOU

Texans' C.J. Stroud: Managing shoulder injury

Stroud (shoulder) is close to 100 percent healthy despite having his reps limited in practice during the week, Deepi Sidhu of the Texans' official site reports.

Stroud intends to play Sunday against the Jaguars, though he may carry an official injury designation into the game, just as he did in Week 2 against the Colts before throwing for 384 yards and two touchdowns. The Texans plan to manage the rookie quarterback's practice reps moving forward to keep the shoulder from worsening. Stroud played through a similar injury at Ohio State in 2021.

  • Colts' Anthony Richardson: Not practicing again

Richardson (concussion) isn't practicing Friday, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports.

We'll await official confirmation of both Richardson's practice level as well as his Week 3 injury status, but at this stage it looks like the QB is trending toward not being available Sunday against the Ravens. If that's the case, Gardner Minshew would be in line to start in Richardson's place.

  • Reid Sinnett QB | CIN

Reid Sinnett: Joining Cincinnati's practice squad

The Bengals are slated to sign Sinnett to their practice squad, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Sinnett -- who had a stint with the team this summer, per Adam Schefter of ESPN -- gives the Bengals a depth option at quarterback to call upon should Joe Burrow (calf) be unable to play Monday night against the Rams. In that scenario, Sinnett could be elevated from the team's practice squad to back up Jake Browning.

  • Will Grier QB | CAR

Patriots' Will Grier: Signed by New England

The Patriots officially signed Grier to their active roster Friday.

Grier, who had been on the Bengals' practice squad, gives the team added signal-caller depth behind Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe ahead of Week 3 action. Per Mike Reiss of ESPN.com, coach Bill Belichick noted Friday that Grier will be the Patriots' emergency third QB for Sunday's game against the Jets.

  • Daniel Jones QB | IND

Giants' Daniel Jones: Significant downturn in Week 3 loss

Jones completed 22 of 32 passes for 137 yards with no touchdowns and one interception and added two rushes for five yards in the Giants' 30-12 loss to the 49ers on Thursday night.

Jones was only sacked twice and picked off once, but he was hit an additional four times unofficially and also limited to a microscopic 4.3 yards per attempt. The veteran signal-caller spread the ball around to seven different players, yet no Giants pass catcher managed to total more than 32 receiving yards. Jones has now put together a worrisome body of work in essentially 10 of his first 12 quarters of the season, particularly concerning when factoring in the financial commitment made to him by the franchise this offseason. Jones and his teammates will be trying to stave off a 1-3 start when they tangle with the Seahawks in a Week 4 home matchup on Monday night, Oct. 2.

  • Brock Purdy QB | SF

49ers' Brock Purdy: Eclipses 300-yard mark in win

Purdy completed 25 of 37 passes for 310 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions while rushing four times for minus-1 yard in the 49ers' 30-12 win over the Giants on Thursday night. He also fumbled once (recovered).

Purdy turned in a third impressive performance in as many games to open the season, connecting with six different targets and putting together his best yardage total yet despite playing without Brandon Aiyuk (shoulder). Purdy connected with Ronnie Bell (nine yards) and Deebo Samuel (27 yards) for his two touchdown passes on his way to his second multi-TD effort over the first three games. Purdy has looked every bit as effective as hoped after last season's Cinderella rookie run, and he'll now have extra time to prepare for a Week 4 home date with the Cardinals a week from Sunday that could feature Aiyuk's return to action.

  • Will Grier QB | CAR

Will Grier: Plans to sign with New England

The Patriots are expected to sign Grier to their 53-man roster Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Once the move becomes official, Grier -- who had been a member of the Bengals' practice squad -- will provide the Patriots with added quarterback depth behind Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe. Meanwhile, the Bengals would be left with Joe Burrow (calf) and Jake Browning as their only options at quarterback between the 53-man roster and practice squad.

  • C.J. Stroud QB | HOU

Texans' C.J. Stroud: Logs full practice Thursday

Stroud (shoulder) was a full practice participant Thursday.

Stroud was listed as a limited participant Wednesday, but his full participation a day later sets the stage for him to start Sunday's game against the Jaguars. Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle relays that Stroud, who dealt with shoulder soreness last week, feels almost "100 percent," and barring any setbacks, the rookie shouldn't face any limitations Week 3. Two games into the season, Stroud has thrown for 626 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions to go along with seven carries for 21 yards.
