Coach Ron Rivera told Lisa Salters of ESPN before Monday's preseason game against the Ravens that Howell will "probably see a good half" of action, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.

Just three days removed from Rivera announcing Howell as the Commanders' starting quarterback for the 2023 season, he'll get a decent amount of run in the team's second exhibition. This follows the 2022 fifth-round pick working three series in the preseason opener against Cleveland, when he completed nine of 12 passes for 77 yards and one touchdown. It's unclear if stalwarts like WRs Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson and RBs Brian Robinson and Antonio Gibson will stay on the field as long as Howell, but he'll likely be afforded at least a series or two with the quartet.

During his Monday press conference, coach Zac Taylor noted that Burrow, who is dealing with a calf strain, "looks great" at this stage of his recovery, Kelsey Conwayof the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

"Physically just walking around he looks probably as good as he's ever looked at this point. That's a positive, and we will just go from there," Taylor indicated of the Bengals' franchise QB, who hasn't practiced since July 27. While a timetable for Burrow's return to action has yet to be outlined by the team, Conway suggests that based off his pregame workout before the Bengals' Aug. 11 preseason game against the Packers -- during which the signal-caller was spotted running and throwing -- it appears at though he's trending in the right direction ahead of Week 1.

Blackman agreed to a contract with the Dolphins on Monday, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.

Blackman was waived by the Dolphins on Aug. 7 after joining them as an undrafted free agent out of Arkansas State in May. This move comes as fellow quarterback, Mike White, was placed in the league's concussion protocols. Blackman will work to make the most of his second opportunity in Miami.

Young is slated to start Friday's preseason finale against the Lions, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.

Young has been quiet in his first two career exhibition matchups, but the rookie No. 1 overall pick will have one more opportunity to show his talents before facing regular-season action. In each of Carolina's first two preseason games Young only handled two or three drives, but the team could elect to feature him longer versus Detroit on Friday.

The Dolphins have placed White in the concussion protocol after noticing irregularities in his behavior during Saturday's preseason game against the Texans, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.

Miami planned for White to split reps with Skylar Thompson prior to him suffering a concussion, per Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post. The top backup to Tua Tagovailoa will now be unavailable until he's able to fully clear the league's five-step protocol for brain injuries. As a result, the team plans to re-sign James Blackmon ahead of this weekend's preseason finale versus Jacksonville, Wolfe reports.

Ta'amu signed a contract with the Vikings on Monday, Ben Goessling of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Ta'amu will get another chance in the NFL after a successful stint with the DC Defenders of the XFL, which saw him win the league's Offensive Player of the Year award. He'll work to make the best of his short time between now and the league's cut-down day of Aug. 29.

Coach Doug Pederson plans to have the Jaguars' healthy starters play in the first half of Saturday's preseason finale against the Dolphins, Demetrius Harvey of The Florida Times-Union reports. Lawrence didn't see any action in this past weekend's contest against the Lions.

Once Lawrence gets his reps in against Miami, he'll turn his focus toward the team's regular-season opener against the Colts. As the coming campaign approaches, the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft will look to take his game to the next level in his third year as a pro, while helming a Jacksonville passing attack that will be fortified by the addition of Calvin Ridley to a WR corps that welcomes back returnees Christian Kirk and Zay Jones.

Rypien completed all four of his passes for 14 yards during Saturday's 34-17 preseason loss to the Raiders.

Rypien only entered the game for the final two drives and mostly handed the ball off to Zach Evans. Stetson Bennett played the majority of the game but had a much shakier performance than his previous game against the Chargers, going 15-for-24 for 142 yards and an interception. Bennett's extended play may be less a signal that he's gained an edge on Rypien for the opportunity to be Matthew Stafford's primary backup, and more likely that the Rams are trying to give the rookie extra reps and are planning on keeping both quarterbacks on the roster after last year's rotating door of ineffective backups.

Stick completed 21 of 41 passes for 233 yards and two touchdowns while adding 63 rushing yards and two touchdowns on seven carries in Sunday's preseason loss to the Saints.

The Chargers' backup quarterback played the entire game and led the offense on an impressive six-play, 74-yard scoring drive inside the final two minutes of the first half, capping it with a six-yard TD scamper. Stick's mobility was the Bolts' most effective weapon on the night, but his overall performance as a passer was erratic at best, and he also got sacked five times and lost a fumble in addition to his two picks. With 2023 seventh-round pick Max Duggan as the only other QB on the roster behind Justin Herbert, however, Stick's No. 2 spot on the depth chart appears secure.

Winston completed 13 of 21 passes for 169 yards in Sunday's preseason win over the Chargers.

The veteran quarterback played the entire first half before giving way to rookie Jake Haener, and Winston led three scoring drives -- including an impressive two-minute drill with just 33 seconds on the clock at the end of the second quarter that resulted in a 37-yard Blake Grupe field goal. Winston's experience and familiarity with coordinator Pete Carmichael's offense will keep him in the backup role behind Derek Carr, but he once again figures to see little action.
