  • Derek Carr QB | NO

Saints' Derek Carr: Set to sit out Sunday

Carr is among the Saints' starting offensive players who are unlikely to suit up for Sunday's preseason tilt versus the Chargers, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.

Per Underhill, starting wide receivers Chris Olave, Michael Thomas and Rashid Shaheed (groin), along with tight ends Juwan Johnson and Taysom Hill, are all expected to sit out as well. Wideout Tre'Quan Smith (groin) and tight end Jimmy Graham (illness) also appear unlikely to play. As a result, the majority of New Orleans' second-team offensive players should be in line to start against the Chargers, including WRs A.T. Perry, Keith Kirkwood and Bryan Edwards and TE Foster Moreau. Backup quarterback Jameis Winston is also slated to start ahead of rookie quarterback Jake Haener, according to New Orleans team reporter Erin Summers. Carr should still be considered the unquestioned starter for the Saints after he inked a four-year, $150 million contract with the team in March.

  • Jordan Love QB | GB

Packers' Jordan Love: Will play preseason finale

Packers coach Matt LaFleur said Sunday that Love will play in the team's preseason finale against Seattle on Saturday, Kassidy Hill of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Love is now set to start all three preseason games for Green Bay after going a combined 12-for-18 passing for 130 yards and two touchdowns over the first two contests. The 24-year-old is entering his first season as starting quarterback after the Packers traded four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers this offseason. LaFleur added Sunday that he "[doesn't] believe you can give a young guy in that position enough reps," according to Ryan Wood of USA Today, and that "it's about the other ten guys out there and making sure we're a cohesive unit," according to Wes Hodkiewicz of the team's official site. Therefore, it's likely that Love will once again play multiple series alongside the majority of Green Bay's first-team offense this Saturday.

  • Jameis Winston QB | NYG

Saints' Jameis Winston: Set to start Sunday

Saints coach Dennis Allen said that Winston will start Sunday's preseason game against the Chargers, according to New Orleans team reporter Erin Summers.

Allen also said that quarterback coach Ronald Curry will handle play-calling duties during Sunday's preseason contest. This makes sense given that the team is expected to hold out a number of players after most of the team's starters took the field for the opening drive of last Sunday's 26-24 preseason win against Kansas City, per John Hendrix of SI.com. Winston was the first Saints quarterback to take the field after starter Derek Carr exited during the first quarter of preseason Week 1. According to Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com, these two veteran signal-callers have taken almost all of the snaps during team drills in New Orleans' recent training camp practices. This essentially confirms that, as of right now, Winston has secured the team's No. 2 quarterback spot ahead of rookie Jake Haener. However, it's unclear how long Winston will stay in the game this Sunday.

  • Matt Barkley QB | JAC

Bills' Matt Barkley: Day to day

Head coach Sean McDermott announced that Barkley is day to day with an elbow injury, Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic reports.

Barkley injured his elbow during Buffalo's game against the Steelers on Saturday after completing seven of his 12 pass attempts for 93 yards and three interceptions. The 2013 fourth-round pick will look to get healthy, as he is currently competing with Kyle Allen for the backup quarterback spot.

  • Mason Rudolph QB | PIT

Steelers' Mason Rudolph: Efficient in victory

Rudolph completed five of seven pass attempts for 52 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions while rushing twice for 12 yards during Saturday's 27-15 preseason win over the Bills.

Rudolph has been impressive over his first two preseason appearances this year, but Mitch Trubisky also turned in a solid performance Saturday after struggling in the opener. While Rudolph still appears to be the No. 3 option in the quarterback room, he'll likely make the 53-man roster if the team opts to begin the regular season with three signal callers.

  • Mitch Trubisky QB | TEN

Steelers' Mitch Trubisky: Bounces back Saturday

Trubisky completed 10 of 13 pass attempts for 78 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions while rushing twice for 13 yards during Saturday's 27-15 win over the Bills.

Trubisky wasn't very effective during the Steelers' preseason opener, but he saw the most work of any of the team's quarterbacks Saturday and was an effective option. Kenny Pickett is still the team's clear starter, but it was encouraging to see Trubisky generate some production Saturday, especially after Mason Rudolph put together another solid performance.

  • Drew Lock QB | SEA

    Seahawks' Drew Lock: Suffers injury

Lock left Saturday's preseason contest against the Cowboys early due to a knee injury, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.

Lock stated, "It's good. It'll be alright. I think it was just a precautionary thing," after the game. With the veteran locked into the team's No. 2 role behind starter Geno Smith, it makes sense the team wouldn't bother pushing him and risking anything further. Head coach Pete Carroll added, "It sounds like he's going to be fine after the evaluation. He got a little bit of a strain in the back of his knee, it got hyperextended a little bit, but there's no damage, so they think that he'll play next week."

  • Sam Ehlinger QB | DEN

Colts' Sam Ehlinger: Strong outing as No. 3 QB

Ehlinger was 9-of-14 passing for 124 yards and had eight carries for 60 yards, including a five-yard touchdown, in Saturday's preseason win over Chicago.

Despite nominally being in the starting quarterback competition to begin training camp, Ehlinger appears locked into the No. 3 quarterback role with Anthony Richardson named the Week 1 starter and Gardner Minshew set as the backup. A larger question may be whether the Colts plan to keep three quarterbacks on the active roster.

  • Aaron Rodgers QB | PIT

Jets' Aaron Rodgers: Debut coming in preseason finale

Rodgers will play in Saturday's preseason finale against the Giants, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.

Rodgers will make his long awaited Jets debut next Saturday, with Zach Wilson having started the previous three exhibition matchups. Costello cites an unnamed source, so the team has yet to officially announced Rodgers as next weekend's starters, but coach Robert Saleh has already alluded to the veteran making a cameo on numerous occasions. The 39-year-old signal-caller likely will handle only a handful of snaps versus the Giants in preparation for his first full start, a difficult Week 1 matchup against the division rival Bills.

  • Deshaun Watson QB | CLE

Browns' Deshaun Watson: To play in preseason finale

Coach Kevin Stefanski said Sunday that Watson and the Browns' starters are slated to play early in Saturday's preseason finale in Kansas City, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Watson played only a single possession in his lone preseason appearance thus far, but Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports that most starters will play 20-25 snaps in the finale. Still, that doesn't preclude Watson from leaving the field before the rest of the starting offense, especially if Cleveland's coaching staff wants to get a more extended look at Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who has flashed in preseason action so far.
