Tim Boyle QB | TEN
Tim Boyle: Dropped by Detroit
Boyle was released by the Lions on Monday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Boyle's tenure in Detroit will come to an end after just one season in a backup role with the team. The 27-year-old signal-caller saw the most significant playing time of his career in 2021, completing 61 of his 94 passes for 526 yards and a 3:6 TD:INT ratio over five games with three starts in place of an injured Jared Goff. However, Boyle appears to have lost out to David Blough for the Lions' No. 2 quarterback spot this preseason, and he will now likely look to land a practice-squad deal heading into the regular season.

Trey Lance QB | LAC
49ers' Trey Lance: To be backed up by Garoppolo
Jimmy Garoppolo has signed a restructured one-year contract to remain with the 49ers to serve as Lance's backup to start the coming season, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
It generally was expected that Garoppolo would be playing elsewhere once the offseason dust cleared, but by amending his contract the veteran signal-caller now is slated to stay with San Francisco as a well-paid backup behind Lance. While retaining Garoppolo gives the franchise a very capable insurance policy should Lance suffer an injury, there's nothing to suggest that the 49ers' plans to start the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft have changed, with Lance's ability to contribute as a rusher giving him intriguing fantasy upside in his second campaign as a pro.

Jimmy Garoppolo QB | LAR
49ers' Jimmy Garoppolo: Sticking with 49ers
Garoppolo and the 49ers have agreed to a restructured one-year deal to keep the QB with the team through the upcoming season, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Per Schefter, the agreement contains no-trade and no-franchise tag clauses, ensuring that Garoppolo will stay with the 49ers this season to back up Trey Lance but have the ability to hit free agency afterward. Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Garoppolo's base salary for 2022 has been lowered to $6.5 million fully guaranteed, with a chance for the veteran signal-caller to make nearly $10 million more in incentives.

Jack Coan QB | IND
Jack Coan: Let go by Indianapolis
The Colts waived Coan on Monday, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports.
Matt Ryan and Nick Foles were always expected to be the top two quarterbacks on the Colts' depth chart, so Coan, an undrafted rookie, and Sam Ehlinger were competing for the No. 3 spot during training camp. However, the latter quickly and convincingly beat out the former with strong preseason performances. After four years at Wisconsin, Coan capped his collegiate career as a grad transfer at Notre Dame in 2021 with 3,150 yards, 25 touchdowns and seven interceptions, but it remains to be seen if he'll get another NFL opportunity in 2022.

Mike White QB | CAR
Jets' Mike White: Steadies ship in preseason finale
White completed 13 of 17 passes for 170 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 31-27 preseason win over the Giants.
White came in after Joe Flacco and before Chris Streveler. He let Braxton Berrios do most of the work on a 21-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, then capped a strong two-minute drill with a 19-yard touchdown to Jeff Smith late in the first half. White's strongest performance of the preseason likely did enough to secure him a roster spot over Streveler, who later led a third second-half comeback in as many preseason games for the Jets.

Ben DiNucci QB | DEN
Ben DiNucci: Parting ways with Cowboys
DiNucci will be waived by the Cowboys on Sunday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
DiNucci spent the 2021 season on the Cowboys' practice squad before signing a reserve/future contract with the team in January. While he was unable to secure a spot on the Cowboys' 53-man roster, it's possible that he lands on a practice squad in 2022. Over three preseason games this year, DiNucci completed 16 of 27 pass attempts for 181 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions while rushing five times for 11 yards.

Kenny Pickett QB | CAR
Steelers' Kenny Pickett: Still in the starting mix
Pickett came in after Mitch Trubisky in Sunday's 19-9 preseason win over the Lions, completing 10 of 14 pass attempts for 90 yards.
Pickett came in with the second unit after Trubisky got the start as expected, but after the game head coach Mike Tomlin stated that he hadn't made a starting quarterback decision yet, according to Teresa Varley of Steelers.com. Mason Rudolph (zero passing yards on three attempts) also is in the mix, but it appears as though Trubisky and the rookie are the two frontrunners, with the former being the slight favorite based on experience. Pickett certainly has looked the part this preseason, but the Steelers' coaching staff may want a more-seasoned option to manage a talented group of young playmakers. Whoever Tomlin picks shouldn't affect too many fantasy decisions Week 1, as neither quarterback should warrant a start in standard formats.

Mitch Trubisky QB | TEN
Steelers' Mitch Trubisky: No decision on starting QB yet
Trubisky started Sunday's preseason finale against the Lions, but head coach Mike Tomlin told Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site that he has yet to make a decision on who will start at quarterback Week 1 at Cincinnati.
Trubisky started the Steelers' final preseason game with the first unit, completing 15 of 19 pass attempts for 160 yards and a touchdown. The 28-year-old has put together a strong preseason, despite carrying a bust label from his time in Chicago. That said, rookie Kenny Pickett has been just as impressive, if not more given his lack of pro experience. While Trubisky's veteran status and strong results on the field this preseason would normally bode well for his chances to win this fierce quarterback competition, Tomlin's stance on not making a decision yet makes both signal-callers risky fantasy options for the time being.

Tim Boyle QB | TEN
Lions' Tim Boyle: Underwhelming in preseason finale
Boyle completed five of 15 passes for 64 yards with one interception while rushing once for minus-1 yard during Sunday's 19-9 loss to Pittsburgh.
Boyle got the start but didn't do much of anything outside of putting together a scoring drive that ended in a field goal. Meanwhile, David Blough put forth a better performance for the second straight week and ended the game with a touchdown to Quintez Cephus. With head coach Dan Campbell wanting to keep just two quarterbacks on the active roster this season, it would be somewhat of a surprise if Boyle survives roster cuts this week.

David Blough QB | DET
Lions' David Blough: Throws for 160 yards
Blough completed 17 of 32 passes for 160 yards with one touchdown while rushing twice for 11 yards during Sunday's 19-9 loss to the Steelers.
Tim Boyle got the start, but Blough seemed to outplay him again despite averaging 5.0 yards per pass attempt. However, given the underwhelming play that Detroit has gotten from its backup quarterbacks this preseason, Detroit could be keeping a close eye on which quarterbacks don't survive roster cuts around the league this week.
