  • Rashaad Penny RB | CAR

Eagles' Rashaad Penny: Active, but fails to play

Penny was active for Monday's 25-11 win over the Buccaneers but didn't take the field for a single snap.

Preseason speculation suggested that Penny and D'Andre Swift would compete for the top running back job in Philadelphia this season, but results through three weeks indicate that the Eagles had different plans. Penny was a healthy scratch in Week 1, and while injuries to other backs elevated him to the active roster in Weeks 2 and 3, he hasn't been a meaningful part of the game plan. His eight snaps and three touches in Week 2 remain his only action of the regular season. Penny may require two injuries ahead of him before he has fantasy relevance, even in deep leagues.

  • Myles Gaskin RB | SEA

    Myles Gaskin: Gets cut loose

Gaskin was let go by the Vikings on Tuesday.

Gaskin was previously let go by Minnesota on Sept. 8, but he returned to the team the following day, signing with its practice squad. The Washington product ultimately joined the 53-man roster Sept. 12, but he only appeared in the Week 2 game against the Eagles on special teams. It's unclear if a similar procedural move will be done here again for Gaskin, or if his time with the team is truly over for now.

  • Aaron Jones RB | MIN

Packers' Aaron Jones: Limited at Tuesday's walkthrough

Jones (hamstring) was listed as limited on Tuesday's estimated practice report, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.

After not holding practice Monday, the Packers resumed on-field work Tuesday with a walkthrough, for which Jones had a cap on his reps. He has been listed as limited on four consecutive injury reports as he closes in completing his recovery from a left hamstring pull that he suffered Week 1 at Chicago, and he seems to be trending in a positive direction for Thursday's game against the Lions. Jones should reclaim his standing as the lead back for Green Bay from AJ Dillon once he's ready to return.

  • Titans' Julius Chestnut: Going to IR

Tennessee placed Chestnut (hamstring) on its injured reserve list Tuesday, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.

After sustaining a hamstring injury during Sunday's 27-3 loss at Cleveland, Chestnut will now have to sit out at least Tennessee's next four games as he recovers. He's the second Titans running back to go to injured reserve in as many weeks, so it would make sense for the team to sign another back in the coming days.

  • Deon Jackson RB | DET

Deon Jackson: Joins Browns' practice squad

Cleveland signed Jackson to its practice squad Tuesday.

A few days after being cut loose by Indianapolis, Jackson has now found another opportunity with a different team. As long as Jerome Ford, Kareem Hunt and Pierre Strong remain healthy though, it's unlikely Jackson will see any game action anytime soon.

  • Lions' David Montgomery: Another limited listing

Montgomery (thigh) was limited at Tuesday's walkthrough.

After hurting his thigh in Week 2 versus the Seahawks, Montgomery was unable to practice at all prior to being inactive this past Sunday against the Falcons. This week, he's been estimated as a limited participant on both of the Lions' initial injury reports, but coach Dan Campbell relayed Tuesday that he's "starting to feel pretty good about" Montgomery suiting up Thursday at Green Bay.

  • Ronnie Rivers RB | LAR

Rams' Ronnie Rivers: No usage on offense

Rivers returned one kickoff for 16 yards during Monday's 19-16 loss to the Bengals.

Rivers saw only 20 snaps on special teams, as fellow running back Kyren Williams played every snap on offense for the Rams. Through two weeks with Williams as the lead back, Rivers has just four snaps on offense, a trend that will likely continue into next week's contest against the Colts.

  • Lions' David Montgomery: Trending in right direction

Lions coach Dan Campbell said Tuesday that he's optimistic that Montgomery (thigh) will be able to play in Thursday's game versus the Packers.

Montgomery missed Week 3 due to a thigh bruise but was listed as a limited participant on Monday's estimated practice report. His return would likely mean less usage for rookie first-round pick Jahmyr Gibbs, who saw 17 rushing attempts versus Atlanta after garnering just 14 through the first two weeks of the season.

  • Saquon Barkley RB | PHI

    Giants' Saquon Barkley: Making progress

Barkley is making progress in his recovery from a sprained right ankle, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.

Barkley was unable to suit up for the Giants' Week 3 loss at San Francisco last Thursday. Prior to that contest, he revealed to Taylor Rooks of NFL on Prime that he was tending to a "high-ankle sprain," which typically results in a multi-game absence. According to Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site, however, coach Brian Daboll called Barkley day-to-day Tuesday. Fortunately for the running back, the Giants don't play until Monday against the Seahawks, so there seems to be some chance he will miss only one game due to his ankle injury.

  • Joe Mixon RB | HOU

Bengals' Joe Mixon: Breaks TD drought in win

Mixon carried the ball 19 times for 65 yards and a touchdown while catching one of two targets for five yards in Monday's 19-16 win over the Rams.

Mixon hit pay dirt for the first time this season with a 14-yard touchdown scamper on Cincinnati's first offensive drive coming out of halftime. The 27-year-old experienced a slight increase in touches after handling 16 in the season opener and 17 in Week 2. Backup Trayveon Williams was the only other back to record a carry, and he was limited to that one rush all game. Mixon should continue to dominate the Bengals backfield in a Week 4 matchup with the Titans on Sunday.
