Benny Snell RB | DET
Steelers' Benny Snell: Returns to practice
Snell (undisclosed) returned to practice Tuesday, Dale Lolley of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
Snell had been working on an exercise bike last week and participated in individual drills recently, but Tuesday's practice marked the first time he received carries. While it's still not clear what injury kept the 23-year-old sidelined, he appears to be over the issue. Expect Snell to be active for Saturday's preseason game against Detroit as he competes for a backup role behind first-round draft pick Najee Harris.

Austin Walter RB | LV
Austin Walter: Waived by Jets
Walker (undisclosed) was waived/injured by the Jets on Tuesday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
Walker was claimed off waiver by the Jets in May and was working as a depth tailback in camp. He appeared in four games for the 49ers last season, rushing once for three yards and catching one pass for 27 yards. The 25-year-old will revert to New York's injured reserve if he goes through waivers unclaimed.

Rashaad Penny RB | CAR
Seahawks' Rashaad Penny: May play Saturday
Coach Pete Carroll hopes Penny (thigh) is able to suit up and play during Saturday's preseason game against the Broncos, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
Due to draft pedigree alone, the 2018 first-round pick should be the favorite to back up starter Chris Carson, but Penny has appeared in just three regular-season games since tearing his ACL in December 2019. He underwent a cleanup procedure on his knee in the offseason and has missed more than a week of practice recently with a thigh concern. Penny will need to get on the field soon to play Saturday, but even if he doesn't he'll have one more exhibition game Aug. 28 versus the Chargers to prove he should be the No. 2 RB in Seattle. Travis Homer (calf), probably Penny's primary competitor, is on the PUP list, leaving DeeJay Dallas, Alex Collins and Josh Johnson to vie for slotting on the depth chart.

Gary Brightwell RB | CIN
Giants' Gary Brightwell: Back at practice
Brightwell (undisclosed) is practicing Tuesday after being sidelined early in training camp, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.
It's unclear what's kept the rookie sixth-round pick off the field, but he's returned to practice after missing the first preseason game. The next few weeks of the preseason could be big for Brightwell, who's competing with Corey Clement for No. 3 on the depth chart behind Saquon Barkley (knee) and Devontae Booker.

LeVante Bellamy RB | DEN
LeVante Bellamy: Let go by Denver
The Broncos waived Bellamy (ankle) with an injury designation Tuesday, Ryan O'Halloran of The Denver Post reports.
Bellamy is nursing an ankle injury with a multiweek recovery timetable, so the Broncos are opting to free up a roster spot. If he goes unclaimed on waivers, Bellamy will revert to the team's injured reserve.

Saquon Barkley RB | PHI
Giants' Saquon Barkley: Progresses to 7-on-7s
Barkley (knee) took reps in 7-on-7 drills at Tuesday's practice while wearing a non-contact jersey, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.
An hour and a half earlier, Giants coach Joe Judge had said the running back would do a little more this week than he did last week. Sure enough, Barkley took some 7-on-7 reps Tuesday afternoon -- a clear step forward after he was previously limited to individual drills. Reports have mentioned the final week of the preseason (Aug. 23-29) as the target for Barkley to ramp up his practice involvement, though he isn't likely to play in the actual game. Neither team nor player have commented on expectations for Week 1, but Barkley's progress on the practice field would seem to put him on track to play, even if he doesn't see his usual workload.

Saquon Barkley RB | PHI
Giants' Saquon Barkley: Set to increase activity
Barkley (knee) will do a little more this week than he did last week, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Barkley continues to progress, but he's not expected to participate in 11-on-11 drills during joint practices in advance of Sunday's preseason game against Cleveland. It seems safe to assume that the running back won't suit up for that contest, as the Giants are of no mind to rush Barkley leading up to the team's regular-season opener, Sept. 12 against Denver.

LeVante Bellamy RB | DEN
Broncos' LeVante Bellamy: Out multiple weeks
Bellamy (ankle) is expected to be sidelined multiple weeks, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
Bellamy suffered an ankle injury during Saturday's exhibition game, and it looks like he will be in danger of missing future preseason contests. With Mike Boone (quadriceps) also out multiple weeks, Royce Freeman and Damarea Crockett seem primed to handle increased reps.
-
Melvin Gordon RB | BAL
Broncos' Melvin Gordon: Back at practice
Gordon (groin) returned to practice Tuesday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
With that, Gordon is a candidate to suit up for Saturday's preseason contest against the Seahawks. Once the regular season starts, the veteran running back is in line to team up with second-rounder Javonte Williams to form a solid 1-2 backfield punch for Denver, with Royce Freeman slated to serve as the team's No. 3 RB while Mike Boone recovers from a quadriceps injury.

David Montgomery RB | HOU
Bears' David Montgomery: Deemed healthy
Coach Matt Nagy said Montgomery (undisclosed) is "good to go" for Tuesday's practice, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Montgomery was a limited participant Monday after getting banged up on the first snap of Saturday's preseason win over Miami. It sounds like he'll be healthy enough to play in Saturday's exhibition with the Bills, if that's what Nagy wants. Montgomery is locked in as the lead runner in Chicago, while third-down snaps are more of a question mark, as he, Damien Williams and Tarik Cohen (PUP - knee) all are capable options when healthy.
