  • Justice Hill RB | BAL

Ravens' Justice Hill: Sitting out practice

Hill (thigh) isn't participating in Thursday's practice, Jonas Shaffer of The Baltimore Sun reports.

With two absences from practice to begin the week, Hill will likely need to turn in at least a limited showing in Friday's session to garner a questionable designation heading into Sunday's season opener versus the Browns. As a rookie last season, Hill logged 58 carries as the team's No. 3 running back behind Mark Ingram and Gus Edwards, but the Oklahoma State product may have fallen to fourth on the depth chart this season after the Ravens selected another back (J.K. Dobbins) in the second round of April's draft.

  • Jaguars' James Robinson: Poised to serve as lead back

With Devine Ozigbo (hamstring) on IR and set to miss at least a few weeks, Robinson appears poised to play a prominent role in the Jaguars' Week 1 game plan.

With Ozigbo sidelined, the Jaguars added Dare Ogunbowale to their active roster, but we'd be surprised if the newcomer saw a big workload Sunday against the Colts. With Ryquell Armstead on the reserve/COVID-19 list and out indefinitely, Robinson -- who is listed atop the team's posted depth chart -- figures to head an early season backfield committee that will also employ Chris Thompson in passing situations. Although weekly game flows may not always favor Robinson, the opportunity now in front of the undrafted rookie makes him worth picking up in fantasy leagues where he's still a free agent.

  • Jaguars' Dare Ogunbowale: Officially signs with Jaguars

Ogunbowale has officially been signed to Jacksonville's active roster, Hays Carlyon of 1010 AM WJXL Jacksonville reports.

Ogunbowale was the odd man out in Tampa Bay following the acquisition of Leonard Fournette, but he'll end up catching on with Fournette's old team less than a week after he was cut. The Jacksonville backfield was in dire need of assistance, as Ryquell Armstead remains on the COVID list, and the team placed Devine Ogzigbo (hamstring) on the injured reserve early Thursday morning. It's unclear what type of role Ogunbowale will have Week 1 against Indianapolis, as his skill set mostly mirrors that of current projected No. 2 back Chris Thompson. Ogunbowale also saw regular work on special teams last season as a member of the Bucs.

  • Devine Ozigbo RB | DET

Jaguars' Devine Ozigbo: Placed on IR

Ozigbo (hamstring) has been placed on injured reserve, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.

Ozigbo had been placed as high as No. 2 on the Jacksonville running back depth chart and was once considered part of the committee set to replace Leonard Fournette following his release. A hamstring injury surfaced Wednesday, however, and things appear to have gone downhill fast. With Ryquell Armstead on the COVID list, the Jaguars were set to move forward with James Robinson and Chris Thompson as the only healthy running backs for a Week 1 matchup against Indianapolis, though they have since picked up Dare Ogunbowale in a corresponding move.

  • Ty'Son Williams: Secures practice squad role

The Ravens signed Williams to the practice squad Sunday, Terez A. Paylor of Yahoo Sports reports.

Williams tore his ACL during his senior season at BYU and ended up going undrafted before signing with Baltimore. The rookie couldn't make the 53-man roster in a crowded backfield, but he'll be kept around in case an injury surfaces.

  • Ronald Jones RB | DAL

Buccaneers' Ronald Jones: Backfield mate set for 'solid' role

Jones' backfield mate Leonard Fournette is set for a "solid" Week 1 role against the Saints, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports.

Coach Bruce Arians made mention of what a quick study Fournette has proven to be with respect to the playbook since arriving last week, leading him to proclaim the former Jaguar is an important component of the Week 1 gameplan against the Saints. However, Jones is still fully expected to start and outpace his new teammate in carries, although his total workload will naturally be somewhere below what it would have been without Fournette's presence. The fact Arians also noted Fournette's receiving ability and that he partly envisions his new acquisition as a "big third-down back" also bears keeping in mind when assessing Jones' Week 1 outlook, as it's possible the two frequently divide the rushing workload versus New Orleans in a split largely dictated by down and distance.

  • Travis Homer RB | PIT

Seahawks' Travis Homer: Back to full health

Homer (undisclosed) wasn't listed on Wednesday's injury report and is expected to suit up in Sunday's game versus the Falcons, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.

Homer missed a handful of practices toward the end of training camp, but he's healthy and ready for his second NFL season. He is lined up as the No. 3 RB behind Chris Carson and Carlos Hyde to begin the season, although rookie DeeJay Dallas could be in the mix as well. Hyde is likely the main beneficiary if Carson's reps are limited after recovering the fractured hip that ended his 2019 season, but Homer would likely factor into that scenario as well.

  • Tony Jones RB | ARI

Tony Jones: Shifts to practice roster

Jones cleared waivers Sunday and signed with the Saints' practice squad.

Jones failed to make the Saints' 53-man roster as an undrafted free agent, although he enjoyed an impressive senior season at Notre Dame with 857 yards and six scores on 144 carries and 104 yards and a touchdown on 15 receptions. The 23-year-old is the only running back on the Saints' practice squad to begin the season.

  • Joe Mixon RB | HOU

Bengals' Joe Mixon: Good to go

Mixon is not on the Bengals' Week 1 injury report.

Migraines had forced Mixon to miss some practice time, but he's off the team's injury report in advance of Sunday's game against the Chargers, on the heels of agreeing to a four-year, $48 million contract extension earlier this month. Mixon thus maintains his status as the Bengals' clear-cut top back, while Giovani Bernard is slated to work in a change-of-pace role, with Trayveon Williams and Samaje Perine on hand to provide depth behind the team's top duo.

  • Bears' Cordarrelle Patterson: Dealing with knee injury

Patterson was limited in Wednesday's practice due to a knee injury.

Patterson's knee injury is a new development, but that he was at least able to put forth a limited practice session bodes well for his chances of suiting up versus Detroit on Sunday. Top running back David Montgomery (groin) was also limited to start the week, and he can't be considered a lock for the season-opener even if he is trending in the right direction. If Montgomery were to miss Week 1, Patterson could be an option to handle some snaps out of the backfield in addition to his usual role at wide receiver.
