  • Browns' Quinshon Judkins: Training camp absence continues

GM Andrew Berry acknowledged Thursday that the Browns may not see Judkins on the field at training camp for a while, the Associated Press reports.

Judkins, whom the Browns took in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, remains unsigned after he was arrested July 12 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on a charge of battery and domestic violence. In reference to the rookie running back's status as training camp proceeds, Berry noted Thursday, "In terms of those decisions, signing, being at camp and everything like that, it's honestly probably too early to make any type of determination. So as we gather information, we'll have a better view on that," while adding "sometimes the information comes a little bit more slowly, but we're still in probably the information-gathering stage with him."

  • Steelers' Cordarrelle Patterson: Doesn't practice Thursday

Patterson (undisclosed) did not participate in individual or team drills during the Steelers' first training camp practice Thursday, Jacob Punturi of SI.com reports.

Head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters that Patterson is considered day-to-day, though the specifics of the injury were not shared. Patterson is entering his second season with the Steelers, and the veteran figures to resume his role as a versatile playmaker in the offense. He finished the 2024 regular season with 32 carries for 135 yards and 12 catches (on 14 targets) for 80 yards and one touchdown across 13 games.

  • Israel Abanikanda: Let go by Niners

The 49ers waived Abanikanda on Thursday, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

After Jacob Cowing pulled his hamstring during Wednesday's practice, the 49ers added depth to their wide receiver room by cutting Abanikanda in order to make room on the 90-man training camp roster for Quintez Cephus. Abanikanda spent the entire 2024 season on the 49ers' practice squad, and he hasn't seen regular-season action since 2023 as a member of the Jets. Assuming he clears waivers, the 2023 fifth-round pick will look to catch on with a team looking to bolster its backfield depth.

  • Jerome Ford RB | CLE

Browns' Jerome Ford: Misses another practice

Ford (undisclosed) will remain sidelined during Thursday's practice, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.

Per Zac Jackson of The Athletic, coach Kevin Stefanski noted that Ford is "progressing well" from what Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram describes as a minor unspecified injury. Once Ford is able to resume practicing, he'll be on track to work as the Browns' RB1, with 2025 second-rounder Quinshon Judkins remaining unsigned amid legal issues, per Pat McGinnis of Browns Wire.

  • Chiefs' Brashard Smith: Mixing in with starters a bit

Kansas City's first-team offense featured a "sprinkling" of Smith on Thursday, according to Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com.

Derrick notes that Isiah Pacheco, Kareem Hunt and Elijah Mitchell got more first-team reps, which shouldn't be surprising given that all three have experience as NFL starters. Smith is merely a rookie seventh-round pick, but he's probably the most natural pass catcher of the bunch and isn't far behind Pacheco in terms of pure speed (4.39 40 at the 2025 Combine). While he may have been disappointed with lasting until the final round of the draft, Smith now has a chance to compete for touches immediately, joining a quality offense with a below-average RB group.

  • Chiefs' Elijah Mitchell: Getting some first-team looks

Mitchell, Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt got first-team snaps Thursday, along with a "sprinkling" of rookie Brashard Smith, according to Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com.

It can perhaps be taken as a good sign for Mitchell that he's getting first-team reps, which might instead be cornered by Pacheco and Hunt. Mitchell has a one-year, $2.5 million contract that includes $1.35 million guaranteed, while Hunt has a one-year, $1.5 million deal with $850,000 guaranteed. Pacheco is presumably a lock to make the roster, but everything else is up for grabs in the Kansas City backfield between Hunt, Mitchell, Smith and UDFA Elijah Young. For Mitchell, the biggest challenge is staying healthy, as he played just 16 games over his final three seasons in San Francisco after running for 963 yards as a rookie in 2021. He's apparently made a full recovery from the torn hamstring that put him on injured reserve for all of last season, coming back healthy with a new team and a real shot to compete for touches.

  • Seahawks' Zach Charbonnet: Sharing backfield with Walker again

Charbonnet and Kenneth Walker give Seattle backfield continuity in an otherwise revamped offense, ESPN.com's Brady Henderson reports.

Offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, QB Geno Smith, and WRs DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett are out, replaced by Klint Kubiak, Sam Darnold, Cooper Kupp and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, respectively. Seattle's backfield, on the other hand, looks the same as last year, with Walker and Charbonnet atop the depth chart while Kenny McIntosh fends off competition for the No. 3 job. There have been some beat-writer whispers about Charbonnet potentially challenging Walker for the starting job under a new coaching staff, although nobody from the Seahawks has said anything to that effect.

  • Robbie Ouzts RB | SEA

Seahawks' Robbie Ouzts: Runs with first-team offense

Ouzts worked with the first-team offense during the Seahawks' first day of training camp Wednesday, Gregg Bell of The News Tribune reports.

Fullbacks are a dying breed in the NFL, but as Bell reports, offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak used one on 25 percent of the Saints' plays last season. The Seahawks affirmed their commitment to the position by selecting Ouzts in the fifth round and immediately converting him from tight end to fullback where he started with Kenneth Walker on Thursday. Ouzts is currently competing with third-year pro Brady Russell for the starting job.

  • Seahawks' Kenneth Walker: Back to 100 percent

Coach Mike Macdonald said Wednesday that Walker (ankle) was a full practice participant to begin training camp, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports. "He looks great. He's in a great spot mentally," Macdonald added. "Awesome to see him do all the things we want him to do from the get-go. I know he's really excited about what's going on. Great first day with Ken."

Walker managed just one appearance (Week 16) over the final five regular-season games of the 2024 campaign due to an ankle injury, which also limited him during the offseason program. Now that he's back to 100 percent, the three-year pro can focus on maintaining a foothold on the No. 1 spot on the running back depth chart for the Seahawks. In the 11 contests in which both he and backup Zach Charbonnet played last year, the former racked up 199 touches to the latter's 67, a breakdown that should remain similar as long as both players are healthy.

  • Titans' Jermar Jefferson: Catches on with Tennessee

The Titans signed Jefferson to a contract Wednesday, Jim Wyatt of the team's official site reports.

Jefferson appeared in two regular-season games for the Lions in 2024, posting six carries for 22 yards and one catch on as many targets for 10 yards. The 2021 seventh-round pick will use training camp and the preseason to audition for a spot on the Titans' 53-man roster.
