  • Evan Engram TE | DEN

Giants' Evan Engram: Held to 18 yards Week 1

Engram managed just two catches for 18 yards on five targets in Sunday's 20-15 Week 1 loss to Jacksonville.

It wasn't terribly surprising to see Engram struggle against one of the league's toughest defensive units, but he alarmingly ranked fourth on the team in targets behind Odell Beckham (11), Sterling Shepard (seven) and Saquon Barkley (six). While it remains to be seen how New York's offense does against less difficult competition, Engram will be hard-pressed to produce TE1 numbers on a consistent basis if he continues to serve as the fourth option in the passing game. On a positive note, Engram appears to be over the concussion he suffered Week 3 of preseason.

  • Jesse James TE | LV

Steelers' Jesse James: Totals 60 receiving yards versus Browns

James totaled 60 yards while catching three of five targets during Sunday's 21-21 tie with the Browns.

James got the starting nod with Vance McDonald (foot) on the sideline, finishing third on the team in receiving yardage while tying for fourth on the team in targets. He generated a long gain of 37 yards and received one target in the red zone. James has potential to produce given the current circumstances, but his role could diminish quite a bit once McDonald and Le'Veon Bell return to the mix. It remains to be seen whether either of his two aforementioned teammates are ready for next week's game against the Chiefs.

  • 49ers' George Kittle: Tops team in receiving yards in opener

Kittle brought in five of nine targets for 90 yards in the 49ers' 24-16 loss to the Vikings on Sunday.

The second-year tight end was Jimmy Garoppolo's favorite target of the afternoon, with his impressive yardage total likely at least partly influenced by the fact Marquise Goodwin (quadriceps) spent time on the sidelines during the contest. Kittle displayed his impressive speed on several receptions, including his game-long 36-yard grab. It was an auspicious start to the campaign for a player many believe will take a considerable leap in 2018, one he'll look to build on in a Week 2 matchup against the Lions.

  • Rico Gathers TE | DAL

Cowboys' Rico Gathers: Sitting Week 1

Gathers (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's Week 1 matchup against the Panthers, David Helman of the team's official site reports.

Gathers will thus be in street clothes for his first game on the Cowboys' 53-man roster. The athletic tight end is still reportedly a work in progress as both a blocker and pass catcher after excelling as a college basketball player at Baylor.

  • David Njoku TE | LAC

Browns' David Njoku: Exits with injury

Njoku departed Sunday's game against the Steelers in the third quarter with an undisclosed injury, Tom Withers of the Associated Press reports.

It's unclear what's afflicting Njoku, but he was at least able to walk off the field under his own power. The Browns should provide an update on Njoku's condition after the game if he fails to check back into the contest for the team's subsequent offensive drives.

  • Chris Manhertz TE | NYG

Panthers' Chris Manhertz: Active Week 1

Manhertz (foot) is active for Sunday's season-opening tilt against the Cowboys.

Both Manhertz and Greg Olsen (back) are active Sunday after shaking off questionable designations, giving Cam Newton his full complement of tight ends against the Cowboys.

  • Mike Gesicki TE | CIN

Dolphins' Mike Gesicki: Won't start at tight end

Gesicki isn't slated to start at tight end Sunday against the Titans, as the Dolphins instead plan to use a four-wideout configuration to begin the contest, Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald reports.

It's not expected that the Dolphins will use a four receivers as their primary offensive set for most of the day, so Gesicki is likely still in line for plenty of work after the team's projected starter at tight end, MarQueis Gray, suffered a season-ending Achilles' tear during a recent practice. Gesicki was one of the top pass-catching tight ends in the draft this spring after finishing his senior season at Penn State with 57 receptions for 563 yards and nine touchdowns on 80 targets.

  • Patriots' Jacob Hollister: Won't play Sunday

Hollister (hamstring) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Texans.

When available, Hollister provides depth behind red-zone maven Rob Gronkowski and blocking ace Dwayne Allen, but his fantasy value is limited as long as Gronkowski is healthy.

  • Patriots' Jacob Hollister: Listed as questionable this week

Hollister (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Texans after practicing in a limited fashion all week, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.

Hollister provides depth behind star tight end Rob Gronkowski and blocking ace Dwayne Allen, but his fantasy value is limited as long as Gronkowski is healthy. That said, Hollister's pass-catching skills probably give him more upside than Allen in the event that Gronkowski misses any time down the road.

  • Dallas Goedert TE | PHI

Eagles' Dallas Goedert: Sees just 17 snaps in debut

Goedert caught one of his three targets for four yards in Thursday's 18-12 win over the Falcons.

Although he was reportedly to see more playing time as the Eagles utilized more two tight end sets with Alshon Jeffery (shoulder) out, Goedert was only on the field for 24 percent of the offensive plays in the win. The Eagles' 2018 first-round pick made some rookie mistakes in the contest, failing to get both feet in on a potential touchdown in the first half and later deflecting his final target to a defender for a fourth-quarter interception. Nevertheless, the South Dakota State product still has immense potential and instantly becomes an intriguing play should anything happen to Zach Ertz over the course of the season.
