  • John Bates TE | WAS

Commanders' John Bates: Still dealing with groin issue

Bates (groin) did not participate at practice Wednesday.

Bates has not practiced since suffering a groin injury in Week 2 at Green Bay, and his availability for Week 4 is now in question. He'll probably have to return to practice in some capacity Thursday or Friday to have any chance to play Sunday at Atlanta.

  • Gee Scott: Back with Pats

The Patriots signed Scott to their practice squad Wednesday.

Scott spent all of training camp and preseason with the team but was unable to crack a spot on the initial roster. New England has only Hunter Henry and Austin Hooper on the active roster at tight end, so Scott is a candidate to be elevated at some point in future weeks.

  • Ross Dwelley TE | DET

Lions' Ross Dwelley: Inked to Detroit's active roster

The Lions signed Dwelley from the practice squad to the active roster Wednesday, Benjamin Raven of MLive Media Group reports.

Dwelley signed with the Lions' practice squad Sept. 16 after the Lions placed fellow tight end Shane Zylstra (ankle) on injured reserve. Dwelley was elevated for the Lions' Week 3 win over the Ravens on Monday, when he played 16 snaps (12 on special teams, four on offense) without otherwise appearing on the box score. Now that he's on the active roster, Dwelley will continue to serve on special teams while operating as the Lions' No. 3 tight end behind Sam LaPorta and Brock Wright.

  • Isaiah Likely TE | BAL

Ravens' Isaiah Likely: Logs limited practice

Likely (foot) was deemed a limited participant in Wednesday's walk-through practice.

Per Jonas Shaffer of TheBaltimoreBanner.com, coach John Harbaugh said earlier Wednesday that he hopes to have Likely -- who has missed the Ravens' first three games -- back in uniform Sunday against the Chiefs. In such a scenario, Likely would bolster a TE corps that was led in Week 3 by Mark Andrews, who caught all six of his targets for 91 yards and two touchdowns in a 38-30 loss to the Lions on Monday night.

  • Tucker Kraft TE | GB

Packers' Tucker Kraft: Limited by pair of injuries

Kraft was limited at Wednesday's practice due to knee and elbow injuries.

Kraft tweaked his left knee at practice last Thursday, but he was able to start this past Sunday's game in Cleveland and pace Packers tight ends in snap share (88 percent). His pass-catching prowess from the first two weeks of the season wasn't evident, though, as he hauled in three of four targets for 29 yards and no touchdowns. Kraft getting on-field work to begin Week 4 prep generally is a good sign that he'll be available Sunday at Dallas, but his status still bears watching as the week goes on to ensure he'll be available.

  • Raiders' Michael Mayer: Not practicing Wednesday

Mayer (concussion) is not participating in Wednesday's practice, Ryan McFadden of ESPN.com reports.

Mayer is in the concussion protocol after having been forced out of Las Vegas' loss to the Commanders in Week 3 early, and he hasn't yet progressed to the stage that would allow him limited on-field work at practice. If he's unable to gain full clearance ahead of Sunday's game against the Bears, Ian Thomas will get a chance to work as the No. 2 tight end behind Brock Bowers.

  • Bears' Colston Loveland: Doesn't practice Wednesday

Loveland (hip) didn't participate in Wednesday's practice.

Loveland wasn't able to return to this past Sunday's win against the Cowboys after hurting his hip in the second quarter. Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Monday that Loveland was believed to have avoided a serious health concern, and that he had a chance to miss no time as a result. Nevertheless, with no practice reps to speak of to kick off Week 4 prep, Loveland likely will need to mix into drills Thursday and/or Friday to give himself a chance to suit up Sunday in Las Vegas. As for veteran TE Cole Kmet, he was limited Wednesday due to a groin injury, so the health of Chicago's top two options at the position are compromised at the moment.

  • David Njoku TE | CLE

Browns' David Njoku: Logs limited practice

Njoku (knee) was limited at practice Wednesday, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.

Njoku logged a 76 percent snap share while catching five of his seven targets for 40 yards in the Browns' 13-10 win over Green Bay in Week 3, while fellow TE Harold Fannin was on the field for 64 percent of the team's snaps on offense en route to recording a 3-25-0 receiving line on four targets. It's possible that Njoku's listed limitations Wednesday were maintenance-related, but his presence on Cleveland's initial Week 4 injury report makes his status worth monitoring ahead of Sunday's game against the Lions nonetheless.

  • Cole Kmet TE | CHI

Bears' Cole Kmet: Tending to groin issue

Kmet was limited at practice Wednesday due to a groin injury.

Kmet has played the lion's share of the Bears' offensive snaps this season, and while he ran a route on 71 percent of them this past Sunday against the Cowboys, he was targeted only once by QB Caleb Williams. Fortunately for managers that roster Kmet, it happened to be a 10-yard touchdown catch. Meanwhile, rookie first-round pick Colston Loveland wasn't able to practice Wednesday due to the hip injury that knocked him out of Week 3 action. Kmet thus appears poised for another large workload Week 4 at Las Vegas, assuming he's able to suit up and Loveland is inhibited or even sidelined.

  • Theo Johnson TE | NYG

Giants' Theo Johnson: Dealing with toe injury

Johnson missed Wednesday's practice with a toe injury, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.

The good news is that his toe is listed as the problem, rather than his foot. Johnson had Lisfranc surgery on his foot last December, bringing his rookie season to an early end. He returned healthy for spring practices and has now picked up where he left off in a near-every-down role -- with an 87 percent snap share through three weeks -- but Johnson still isn't getting many targets, with a 10 percent share ranking fifth on the team. An absence for Week 4 against the Chargers would mean more work for Daniel Bellinger, who also has an established track record of low target rates.
