  • Deven Thompkins: Waived by Carolina

Thompkins (hamstring) was waived/injured by the Panthers on Sunday, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports.

The wide receiver can be claimed by another team until Monday morning. If he goes unclaimed, he will revert to injured reserve and would need to reach an injury settlement with Carolina to play this season. Thompkins signed with the Panthers in late July after getting waived with an injury settlement by the Buccaneers in June.

  • Broncos' Courtland Sutton: Set to play in preseason opener

Sutton is warming up to play with the first-team offense ahead of Sunday's preseason opener against the Colts, Ryan McFadden of The Denver Post reports.

Most of the Broncos' starters are slated to play in the team's first preseason contest, though they're unlikely to see more than a series or two. Sutton is looking to build a rapport with a new QB this season, as Russell Wilson has headed off to Pittsburgh. Jarrett Stidham is making the start behind center Sunday, while rookie Bo Nix is lined up to start next Sunday versus Green Bay. It's not yet clear which of the two signal-callers will start Week 1 of the regular season, so Sutton will look to establish chemistry with both as the exhibition slate progresses.

  • Malik Nabers WR | NYG

Giants' Malik Nabers: Limps off field during practice

Nabers exited Sunday's practice early and was seen limping at the end of the the Giants' team drills, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.

It's not yet clear what caused the issue, but Nabers took off his left shoe and limped off the field before practice had ended, per Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News. Duggan notes that the rookie wideout didn't go to the locker room but was using a band to stretch his left ankle/foot while sitting on the sideline, and he was limping at the end of the session. Nabers is primed to be an integral part of New York's offense after the team drafted him sixth overall in the 2024 Draft, so it's likely that the organization won't take any chances with rushing him back in the preseason if Nabers is in fact dealing with an injury. Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record notes that Nabers' exit happened late in practice, which makes it less clear if the receiver is dealing with a significant issue because there wasn't much time for him to return to drills.

  • Bears' Velus Jones: Impresses as running back

Jones rushed six times for 34 yards and a touchdown in the Bears' 33-6 preseason win over the Bills on Saturday.

On Aug. 6, coach Matt Eberflus vowed to experiment with Jones as a running back. Eberflus was true to his word, and Jones handled six carries with the reserves, including a 19-yard run and a short touchdown. The Bears invested a third-round pick on Jones in 2022, and aside from contributions on special teams, the team has gotten very little offensive production from him. It may be difficult for the third-year player to move into one of the top three spots on the depth chart, but this showing certainly didn't hurt Jones' chances of seeing more work as a running back.

  • Cedric Tillman WR | CLE

Browns' Cedric Tillman: Works with starters Saturday

Tillman caught one of two targets for three yards in Saturday's 23-10 preseason loss to the Packers.

While he didn't make much of an impact, Tillman got the start for Cleveland and both his targets came on the team's opening drive with Jameis Winston under center. The offseason addition of Jerry Jeudy (leg) pushed Tillman down the depth chart at wide receiver, but the 2023 third-round pick still has a chance to overtake Elijah Moore for the No. 3 spot before the regular season begins.

  • Packers' Dontayvion Wicks: Hauls in long TD

Wicks caught his only target for 65 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 23-10 preseason win over the Browns.

The second-year wideout was on the other end of a downfield strike from Jordan Love on the Packers' first possession, and both players called it a day after that. Wicks is jockeying for snaps and targets this season with Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs and Jayden Reed in a crowded Green Bay receiving corps, and showing strong chemistry with Love in the preseason can only help his standing.

  • Bengals' Jermaine Burton: Paces pass catchers Saturday

Burton secured three of four targets for 82 yards and a touchdown in the Bengals' 17-14 preseason loss to the Buccaneers on Saturday night.

The rookie logged 18 snaps and surprisingly didn't enter the game until the 3:22 mark of the second quarter. He'd logged only six snaps and was still without a target entering the final period, but he made the most of the final 15 minutes. Burton's biggest play of the night was his 37-yard touchdown grab down the left sideline with 3:33 remaining, and he added a contested 38-yard grab on the first play of Cincinnati's final possession. Burton's reception and receiving yardage tallies shared or held the lead for the Bengals on the night, and the stellar night keeps the rookie firmly in contention with Andrei Iosivas for the No. 3 receiver job.

  • Andrei Iosivas WR | CIN

Bengals' Andrei Iosivas: Good gain on one catch

Iosivas brought in his only target for 23 yards in the Bengals' 17-14 preseason loss to the Buccaneers on Saturday night.

Iosivas recorded his chunk play on the Bengals' opening possession, carrying over some of the momentum he's been building in training camp practices. The second-year wideout is thought to have a solid chance of securing the No. 3 receiver role long held by the departed Tyler Boyd, but rookie Jermaine Burton, who led Cincinnati's pass catchers with a 3-82-1 line Saturday, is expected to continue making a push for the job over the final two preseason games.

  • Chris Olave WR | NO

Saints' Chris Olave: One catch to open preseason

Olave secured one of four targets for 10 yards in the Saints' 16-14 preseason win over the Cardinals on Saturday night.

Olave was the target on Derek Carr's first three pass attempts on the opening possession, logging his one catch on the second one. The talented third-year wideout, who produced a career-best 87-1,123-5 line across 16 regular-season games in 2023, is in line to serve as Carr's top receiver once again in the coming season. Olave was shed some proven competition for targets when Michael Thomas (knee) was released this offseason.

  • Tre Tucker WR | LV

Raiders' Tre Tucker: Big gains Saturday

Tucker caught two of four targets for 73 yards in Saturday's 24-23 preseason loss to the Vikings. He also added 23 yards on one punt return.

Davante Adams got the night off, leaving Jakobi Meyers and Tucker as the Raiders' starting wideouts, and the latter wound up leading the team in receiving yards thanks to gains of 29 and 44 yards on successive second-quarter touchdown drives with Gardner Minshew under center. Tucker has drawn plenty of praise from the coaching staff in camp, and the 2023 third-round pick could be headed for a breakout campaign if he can earn enough volume in a passing game that also has to find targets for tight ends Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer.
