Jalen Guyton WR | LV
Chargers' Jalen Guyton: Pair of grabs in preseason opener
Guyton brought in both targets for six yards in the Chargers' 29-22 preseason loss to the Rams on Saturday night.
Guyton wasn't able to do much with his pair of touches, although the teammate he's still hoping to beat out for the No. 3 receiver job, Joshua Palmer, couldn't corral any of his four targets. Guyton does have the edge on Palmer in experience after appearing in 35 games over the past three seasons, but it appears from recent practices the latter has the edge in the job battle.

Nico Collins WR | HOU
Texans' Nico Collins: Not targeted Saturday
Collins was not targeted in Saturday's 17-13 preseason win over the Saints.
Collins had a chance to serve as the No. 1 wide receiver with the Texans' first-team offense, as veteran Brandin Cooks didn't suit up for the preseason opener, but the former ultimately played sparingly as Houston opened the contest with back-to-back three and outs. Collins figures to see additional run with the starters when the Texans travel to Los Angeles for another preseason tilt against the Rams on Friday.

Josh Palmer WR | BUF
Chargers' Joshua Palmer: Comes up empty on four targets
Palmer didn't bring in any of his four targets in the Chargers' 29-22 preseason loss to the Rams on Saturday night.
Palmer, the frontrunner for the No. 3 receiver job, got the first target of the night with neither Keenan Allen nor Mike Williams in action. The former, a 2021 third-round pick, turned in a solid rookie season with 33 receptions, 353 yards and four touchdowns on 49 targets, and the experience he garnered should serve him well in his quest to make a significant second-year leap.

Tutu Atwell WR | LAR
Rams' Tutu Atwell: Doesn't see field Saturday
Atwell (coach's decision) did not play in the Rams' 29-22 preseason win over the Chargers on Saturday night.
Jordan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports that head coach Sean McVay, who'd previously stated he wanted to see Atwell get some snaps in the preseason, said after the game he opted not to play the speedster Saturday night because he feels the second-year wideout has shown enough in practice already. The 2021 second-round pick never logged a target over eight games in his rookie campaign, but he could have a meaningful role to open the season if Van Jefferson (knee) is unavailable to begin the campaign.
-
Ben Skowronek WR | PIT
Rams' Ben Skowronek: Doesn't play in preseason opener
Skowronek (coach's decision) did not play in the Rams' 29-22 preseason win over the Chargers on Saturday night.
The second-year wideout is on track to open the season as the No. 3 receiver with Van Jefferson (knee) potentially out of action for Week 1, so it wasn't entirely surprising he joined starters Cooper Kupp and Allen Robinson as inactives. Skowronek made only a modest impact as a rookie with an 11-133 line on 20 targets, but that experience could certainly help him get off to a strong start if he does indeed enjoy an elevated role to open the 2022 season.
-
Devon Williams WR | BAL
Devon Williams: Cut without injury
Williams (undisclosed) was waived without an injury designation by the Ravens on Saturday, Clifton Brown of the team's official site reports.
Williams had been dealing with an undisclosed injury that kept him sidelined during this past week of practice, but he now appears to be healthy after Baltimore let him go without a designation Saturday. The undrafted wideout was one of two players cut by Baltimore to help make room on the team's roster for linebacker Trent Harris. Williams will now pass through waivers before hitting free agency, if no team opts to claim him.

Noah Brown WR | LV
Cowboys' Noah Brown: Not active in preseason opener
Brown (coach's decision) did not play in the Cowboys' 17-7 preseason loss to the Broncos on Saturday night.
Head coach Mike McCarthy opted to give rookie third-round pick Jalen Tolbert plenty of run and notably kept Brown on the sideline alongside No. 1 wideout CeeDee Lamb. The 26-year-old Brown is likely to open the season as the No. 3 wideout behind Lamb and Tolbert if Michael Gallup (knee) remains sidelined for Week 1 as expected.
-
Kendall Hinton WR | DEN
Broncos' Kendall Hinton: Shines in preseason win
Hinton (knee) hauled in three of four targets for 53 yards and a touchdown in the Broncos' 17-7 preseason win over the Cowboys on Saturday night.
Hinton tied for second on the team in receptions and made his biggest impact by hauling in a 24-yard touchdown pass off the arm of Josh Johnson just past the midway point of the second quarter. The 25-year-old presumably has an increased chance of a No. 4 or No. 5 receiver role in the wake of Tim Patrick's (knee) season-ending injury, and Hinton will continue to try and make a case for such in next Saturday night's road preseason matchup against the Bills.
-
Montrell Washington WR | HOU
Broncos' Montrell Washington: Multiple roles in pro debut
Washington brought in two of four targets for eight yards, rushed once for minus-4 yards and returned two punts for 45 yards in the Broncos' 17-7 preseason win over the Cowboys on Saturday night.
The rookie fifth-round pick has been turning heads in training camp, and he was able to carry over some of the momentum into his debut Saturday night while drawing the start and the first target of the contest. However, as his final line indicates, Washington's biggest contributions by far came as a returner, and the Samford product's ticket to ultimately latching on to a roster spot could well prove to be his prowess on special teams.

Jalen Tolbert WR | MIA
Cowboys' Jalen Tolbert: Two grabs in preseason opener
Tolbert brought in two of seven targets for 10 yards in the Cowboys' 17-7 preseason loss to the Broncos on Saturday night.
Tolbert was the target on Cooper Rush's first two pass attempts, neither of which was caught. The rookie did draw a pass interference penalty on the first play of the Cowboys' third drive and subsequently got on the board with a pair of receptions, making it a busy yet modest night for the third-round pick. Tolbert's next opportunity to ramp up for what should be a solid role right from the start of his career comes in a road battle against the Chargers next Saturday night.
