  • Jerry Jeudy WR | CLE

Broncos' Jerry Jeudy: Three targets in preseason opener

Jeudy recorded one reception on three targets for 33 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Vikings.

Jeudy's first major contribution to the game was getting flagged for holding, which nullified a Javonte Williams touchdown. While he missed out on his first two targets, Jeudy recorded his lone reception over the middle of the field and quickly turned the ball up field for a big gain. Jeudy figures to lose some of his 113 targets from 2020 due to the return of Courtland Sutton (knee), though that could be balanced out by an increase in efficiency as Jeudy enters his second season as a pro.

  • 49ers' Trent Sherfield: Hauls in 80-yard score

Sherfield caught an 80-yard touchdown pass in Saturday's 19-16 preseason loss to the Chiefs.

Sherfield caught Trey Lance's first completion, a deep shot down the right sideline that went for an 80-yard score. This is a strong start for Sherfield as he makes a case for a spot on the 53-man roster. The 25-year-old spent the last three seasons in Arizona and tallied just 28 receptions for 340 yards and a touchdown.

  • K.J. Osborn WR | TEN

Vikings' K.J. Osborn: Has two receptions Saturday

Osborn had two receptions for 15 yards and also returned two kickoffs for a 31-yard average in Saturday's preseason loss to Denver.

Osborn is competing for the third receiver role with Chad Beebe and Dede Westbrook. He was listed as the No. 3 receiver on Minnesota's first unofficial depth chart of the preseason. He was one of the few players with a starting job or in competition for a starting job playing Saturday, likely to get him opportunities as a returner. Osborn could win the punt or kickoff return jobs along with a third- or fourth-receiver role.

  • Browns' Donovan Peoples-Jones: Opens preseason with three catches

Peoples-Jones recorded three receptions on five targets for 26 yards in Saturday's game against the Jaguars.

Peoples-Jones has gotten strong reviews for his play early on in training camp, and he's taken advantage of the fact that both Odell Beckham (knee) and Jarvis Landry have been eased into practice. Both were sidelined for the preseason opener, which allowed Peoples-Jones to command several early targets. He played during the team's opening two possessions, beginning the game with a 15-yard reception. Though Rashard Higgins may be the favorite for the third wide receiver role, Peoples-Jones appears to be applying some pressure for the position.

  • Devin Duvernay WR | ARI

Ravens' Devin Duvernay: Six targets in preseason opener

Duvernay caught four of six targets for 28 yards in Saturday's 17-14 preseason win over New Orleans.

With Baltimore's receiving corps decimated by injuries, Duvernay worked as the primary target for Trace McSorley (back), who started under center with Lamar Jackson sitting out but exited at halftime with back spasms. Duvernay tied for the team lead in targets and should play a prominent role in Week 2 of the preseason against the Panthers. The 2020 third-round pick's speed makes him an effective return man on special teams, but Duvernay's trying to translate his open-field ability into more offensive production in his second NFL season.

  • Jaguars' Laviska Shenault: Tallies two catches

Shenault recorded two receptions on three targets for 14 yards in Saturday's preseason game against Cleveland.

Shenault saw all of his targets on the team's first drive with Trevor Lawrence under center. He worked in the short areas of the field and recorded receptions of eight and six yards. Though it was only the preseason, Shenault's usage certainly suggests that the team will make it a priority to get the ball in his hands this season. He should work as a nice complement to Marvin Jones and DJ Chark among the Jaguars' wide receiver corps.

  • Corey Davis WR | NYJ

Jets' Corey Davis: Featured early in Jets debut

Davis caught two of four targets for 18 yards in Saturday's 12-7 preseason win over the Giants.

Davis was the clear top receiving option dressed for the Jets, and he showed it on the opening drive, as all four of Zach Wilson's throws on the drive went Davis' way. The prized offseason addition and the rookie second overall pick are already building chemistry, and Davis will look to strengthen his relationship with Wilson further in Week 2 of the preseason against the Packers.

  • Elijah Moore WR | PHI

Jets' Elijah Moore: Injuring seemingly not serious

Head coach Robert Saleh said after Saturday's preseason game against the Giants that Moore (quad) is considered day-to-day, according to Brian Costello of the New York Post.

The results of the MRI that Moore underwent after injuring his quad Thursday were not released, but based on Saleh's comments, it does not appear he is dealing with something that will cost him extended time. Moore did not play Saturday, though, and while he will have a chance to play in the Jets' second exhibition contest, he will not have much additional recovery time with that game being played just six days later.

  • Kadarius Toney WR | CLE

Giants' Kadarius Toney: Held out due to injury

Toney did not play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Jets due to an injury, according to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News.

Head coach Joe Judge announced after the game that Toney was held out after "(aggravating) something near the tail end of this week," but he did not provide any other details.

  • Saints' Marquez Callaway: Hot start in preseason opener

Callaway caught three of four targets for 61 yards in Saturday's 17-14 preseason loss to the Ravens.

Callaway has been the favorite practice target for both Taysom Hill and Jameis Winston, and his rapport with the former was evident on the opening drive, when Callaway caught all three of his targets for 61 yards. His only other target over the next two possessions resulted in an incomplete pass, though. With Michael Thomas (ankle) and Tre'Quan Smith (undisclosed) both sidelined by injuries, Callaway has established himself as the Saints' top healthy receiver, and he could retain that title over Smith for the duration of Thomas' absence, which is expected to last well into the regular season. Callaway will look to strengthen his case in Week 2 of the preseason against Jacksonville.
