  • Derick Brassard: Announces retirement
    By RotoWire

Brassard said Sunday in an interview with Mathias Brunet of La Presse that he has retired from professional hockey. Brassard didn't play during the 2023-24 season after suffering a fractured fibula in his final game with the Senators on March 30, 2023. The 36-year-old forward produced 215 goals and 545 points in 1,013 career regular-season games for the Blue Jackets, Rangers, Senators, Penguins, Avalanche, Panthers, Islanders, Coyotes, Oilers and Flyers.

  • Brassard had surgery on a broken fibula Saturday and will miss the remainder of the season, per Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun. Brassard suffered the injury Thursday against the Flyers and will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery Saturday morning. The 35-year-old center will finish the year with 13 goals and 10 assists in 62 games. Ridly Greig will rejoin the lineup Saturday against the Maple Leafs, filling in for Brassard in the bottom six.

  • Brassard's lower-body injury is "not good" and he'll likely miss time, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports. Brassard was hurt late in the second period, and it appeared to be an ankle or lower-leg issue. The 35-year-old will be evaluated further, and it's possible the Senators end up shutting him down rather than rushing him back this late in the season.

  • Brassard (lower body) won't finish Thursday's game versus the Flyers. The Senators didn't specify anything beyond lower-body injury, but Brassard's issue appeared to be with his ankle, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports. This may be longer than a day-to-day situation, but it's unclear when the Senators will provide an update on Brassard's status.

  • Brassard logged a goal on two shots in Monday's 5-2 win over the Panthers. Brassard's power-play tally in the first period was originally credited to Erik Brannstrom. However, it was determined that Brannstrom's shot ricocheted off Brassard's stick before sneaking past Sergei Bobrovsky. It's Brassard's second goal in his last three games, though he'd gone scoreless in his previous nine contests. The 35-year-old veteran is up to 13 goals and 23 points in 61 appearances this season.
