Weber announced his retirement from the NHL on Tuesday. Weber played in 13 NHL seasons split between the Canadiens, Predators, Canucks and Penguins, totaling 28 goals, 66 assists, 195 PIM, 639 shots, 382 blocks and 479 hits in 499 career appearances.

Weber agreed to terms on a three-year contract with ZCS Lions (Switzerland) on Tuesday. After appearing in just two games for the Penguins this past season in which he registered four hits, one shot and a minus-3 rating while averaging 11:19 of ice time, Weber will return to his native Switzerland. Selected by the Canadiens in the third round of the 2007 NHL Draft, the blueliner spent 13 years playing in the NHL for Montreal, Vancouver, Nashville and Pittsburgh, garnering 28 goals and 66 assists in 499 games. This likely will mark the end of the 32-year-old's time in the NHL, as he figures to close out his career overseas.

Weber was recalled from the Penguins' taxi squad Sunday. Weber will be on Pittsburgh's expanded postseason roster, as the team's taxi squad will be disbanded with the regular season having come to a close. He appeared in just two regular-season games.

Weber was reassigned to the taxi squad Monday. Weber hasn't appeared in an NHL game since Feb. 1 despite being on the active roster all month. The veteran blueliner isn't likely to play much this season.

The Penguins added Weber to their active roster Saturday, Seth Rorabaugh of TribLive.com reports. Pittsburgh's blue-line corps has been decimated by injuries, so it wouldn't be surprising to see Weber make his Penguins debut sooner rather than later. The Switzerland native picked up three points in 41 appearances with Nashville in 2019-20.
