  • Tyson Barrie: Announces retirement
    By RotoWire

Barrie announced his retirement from the NHL on Monday. Barrie played 14 seasons in the NHL between Colorado, Toronto, Edmonton, Nashville and New Jersey, but he saw limited playing time with the Flames during the 2024-25 campaign before being waived, and he'll ultimately elect to call it a career. He played 822 games during his career, amassing 110 goals, 398 assists, 869 blocked shots, 506 hits and 263 PIM.

  • Flames' Tyson Barrie: Goes on waivers
    By RotoWire

Barrie was placed on waivers by the Flames on Thursday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports. Barrie signed a one-year deal with the Flames in the offseason, but he's spent the majority of the season as a healthy scratch, recording just one goal and two assists across 13 games. He will be assigned to the AHL if he clears waivers. With the 33-year-old's departure comes a potential opportunity for young defensemen Ilya Solovyov and Yan Kuznetsov, who were called up Wednesday.

  • Barrie logged an assist, two shots on goal and two PIM in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to the Capitals. Barrie recently completed a conditioning stint with AHL Calgary. It was needed -- he hadn't played since Nov. 12, but he drew into the lineup Tuesday due to the absence of Kevin Bahl (undisclosed). Barrie is now at three points, 14 shots on net, nine hits, eight blocked shots and a minus-3 rating over 10 appearances. It's unclear if the 33-year-old will stick in the lineup over Daniil Miromanov, and the Flames have also occasionally scratched Jake Bean and Joel Hanley to keep up the competition for third-pairing minutes.

  • Barrie was recalled from AHL Calgary on Tuesday. Barrie was sent to the Wranglers on a conditioning stint Jan. 24, but he's back with the big club in short order. The right-shot blueliner hasn't made an appearance with the Flames since Nov. 12 in Vancouver. Per Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan, Barrie might replace Daniil Miromanov in the lineup Tuesday.

  • Barrie was reassigned to AHL Calgary on a conditioning assignment Friday. Barrie hasn't seen any game action since Nov. 12 versus the Cancuks, so he almost certainly would need to shake off some rust before suiting up in an NHL contest. In his limited appearances this year, the 33-year-old blueliner has logged one goal, one assist and 12 shots in nine outings. Perhaps after some AHL action, Barrie will be ready to play for the Flames again.
