    Weal has signed a one-year contract with AK Bars Kazan of the KHL, Eric Engels of Sportsnet.ca reports. Weal has spent the entirety of the 2020-21 campaign in the minors, picking up 24 points through 34 contests, so he's decided to head overseas to pursue a presumably more lucrative opportunity in Russia's top league. The 29-year-old forward may have played his last NHL contest.

    The Canadiens placed Weal on waivers Sunday, Matt Cudzinowski of the Canadiens' official site reports. Weal now becomes a candidate for Montreal's taxi squad if he goes unclaimed. The 28-year-old forward spent all of last season with Montreal and had eight goals and seven assists over 49 games. If he goes unclaimed, Weal is expected to be a member of the taxi squad.

Both Weal, who scored his career-high-tying eighth goal, and Paul Byron hit the back of net. Weal has six points (three goals, three assists) in the last seven games.
