  Gustafsson notched an assist and went minus-2 in Monday's 6-5 shootout win over the Sabres. Gustafsson has two helpers over four appearances in December. He's been scratched once this month after spending the last three games of November in the press box as well. The 32-year-old now has five assists, 26 shots on net, 17 blocked shots, 14 PIM and a minus-6 rating through 20 outings as a part-time option on the third pairing and second power-play unit.

Gustafsson has played in a majority of games, though he was scratched twice during his dry spell and is far from a lock to play every contest. He has just three helpers with 22 shots on net, 12 blocked shots, 10 PIM and a minus-5 rating over 14 outings. Gustafsson's main value is in power-play production -- he's earned all of his assists with the man advantage -- but he's been limited to the second unit for the better part of the last month, which reduces his opportunities to make an impact.

Gustafsson has an assist in each of his two games this season, both coming on the power play. He's added five shots on net, three blocked shots and a minus-2 rating. Gustafsson has done the job he was signed for, but he may end up slipping out of the lineup once again, as Jeff Petry (upper body) was cleared to play Saturday versus the Predators after a three-game absence.

  Gustafsson posted a power-play assist, three shots on goal and a minus-2 rating in Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Penguins. Gustafsson had to fill a larger role than expected in his Detroit debut, as Jeff Petry (upper body) left the game early. Gustafsson was signed by the Red Wings as a direct replacement for Shayne Gostisbehere -- a third-pairing option who can also run a power play. The 32-year-old Gustafsson had 31 points (nine on the power play) over 76 regular-season outings with the Rangers last season. If Petry misses time, Gustafsson may be pressed into a top-four role, though his defensive struggles could largely offset the extra opportunities he'd receive with more ice time.

  Gustafsson signed a two-year, $4 million contract with the Red Wings on Monday, according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet on Monday. Gustafsson had six goals and 31 points in 76 regular-season games with the Rangers in 2023-24. The 32-year-old is likely to serve on either Detroit's second or third pairing, and he should also see some time on the second power-play unit.
