Dermott (upper body) signed a professional tryout agreement with the Oilers on Tuesday, Mark Spector of Sportsnet reports. Dermott struggled with seven points in 50 games for Arizona last season. The 27-year-old will head to the Oilers with a chance to win a bottom-pairing job on the blue line, though he begins the preseason behind his fellow former Coyotes in Troy Stecher and Josh Brown.

It's been a tough season for Dermott, who has been limited to just 50 games this year in which he generated two goals and five helpers while averaging 17:17 of ice time. The 27-year-old blueliner's underwhelming season could impact his ability to cash in this offseason, as he will become an unrestricted free agent July 1.

There was no update on Dermott's status following the contest, so it's unclear if he will be available for Tuesday's contest against Seattle. If he can't play, the Coyotes will need to bring up a defender from AHL Tucson.

Dermott notched an assist, two PIM and a plus-2 rating in Thursday's 4-1 win over the Red Wings. The helper was Dermott's first point since Feb. 12, though he played just four games out of 15 in that span. The 27-year-old has six points, 32 shots on net, 52 blocked shots, 41 hits and a minus-12 rating through 40 appearances. The Coyotes are carrying only six defensemen currently -- Dermott's place in the lineup is safe as long as that continues, though Josh Brown is likely more at risk of a healthy scratch.

Dermott (illness) will play Tuesday against the Wild. Dermott will play on the third pairing following a two-game absence. He has picked up two goals, three assists, 50 blocked shots and 40 hits over 38 outings this season. Victor Soderstrom was assigned to AHL Tucson on Tuesday to make room for Dermott's return to the lineup.
