The 30-year-old doesn't stand out in many ways, but he's been steady enough to play on the third line for much of the campaign. In the second stanza, Aston-Reese fought Noah Juulsen amid a fracas with five minutes left in the frame. The 30-year-old Aston-Reese didn't spend any time in the penalty box before Friday's game and isn't known for racking up PIM. He's added nine points, 41 shots on net and 57 hits over 25 contests in a bottom-six role.

Aston-Reese was credited with a secondary assist, when he sent Zach Werenski and Mathieu Olivier on a two-on-two rush that produced the game's first goal. He usually sees fourth-line minutes, but Cole Sillinger's upper-body injury shook up the combinations, which included Aston-Reese skating on the third line and contributed to a season-high 15:57 TOI.

Aston-Reese scored against one of his former teams, striking at 2:20 of the first period. He's tallied in back-to-back games and is up to four goals, three assists, 24 shots on net and 32 hits through 15 contests overall. The 30-year-old continues to play in a fourth-line role, but he's been able to see fairly consistent playing time. As he long as he sticks in the lineup, he is poised to reach the 20-point mark for the first time in his career.
