  Schmid signed a two-year, $1.75 million contract with the Golden Knights on Wednesday, per CapFriendly. Schmid was traded from the Devils to the Golden Knights at the draft, but he did not receive a qualifying offer. This allowed the 24-year-old goalie to test free agency, but Vegas was able to get a deal done with him anyway. The Golden Knights also signed Ilya Samsonov on Monday to a one-year, $1.8 million deal, so it's likely Schmid will spend the bulk of 2024-25 at AHL Henderson.

Schmid was acquired from the Devils on Saturday in a trade that sent Logan Thompson to New Jersey. Schmid went 5-9-1 last year with a 3.15 GAA and an .895 save percentage in 19 regular-season appearances. Should he sign a new deal with Vegas, he'll likely be the primary backup behind Adin Hill.

  Schmid and Alexander Holtz were acquired by the Golden Knights from the Devils on Saturday in exchange for Paul Cotter and a 2025 third-round draft pick. Schmid had a 5-9-1 record, 3.15 GAA and .895 save percentage in 19 appearances with the Devils during the 2023-24 campaign. He also posted a 3.06 GAA and an .894 save percentage across 23 regular-season outings with AHL Utica. The 24-year-old netminder is expected to begin the 2024-25 campaign as the third goaltender on the franchise's depth chart, per Danny Webster of the Las Vegas Review-Journal Adin Hill will serve as the starter, while Vegas will attempt to sign a backup netminder when the free agent market opens Monday. Schmid is likely to start the campaign in the minors, though he would be the first option for a promotion if one of the Golden Knights' goaltenders suffers an injury.
