McMichael tallied an assist and added three shots during Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Devils. McMichael found Tom Wilson in the slot for Washington's third goal, but it was not enough to get the Capitals a win in their home opener. The 23-year-old appears to be locked into a top-six role alongside Pierre-Luc Dubois and Wilson and will get every opportunity to top the 18 goals and 33 points he notched in the 2023-24 regular season.

McMichael signed a two-year, $4.2 million extension with the Capitals on Monday. McMichael had been tendered a qualifying offer on Sunday but did not wait long to sign an extension with the Capitals. The 23-year-old forward is coming off a career-best 18 goals and 33 points in 80 games while spending a considerable amount of time as the second-line center following the departure of Nicklas Backstrom (hip). The arrival of Pierre-Luc Dubois in a June trade from Los Angeles complicates McMichael's prospects to remain as a scoring-line center, but the Capitals are high on his upside, and a move to the wing could help him continue to garner a top-six role once the 2024-25 season gets rolling.

McMichael scored a goal on three shots in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Kraken. McMichael has tallied in back-to-back contests after enduring a six-game point drought. His goal Thursday was the game-winner, scored on a breakaway after a failed drop pass by Seattle winger Andre Burakovsky. McMichael is up to 14 goals, 26 points, 112 shots on net, 33 hits, 32 blocked shots and a minus-15 rating through 63 appearances. It's not quite a breakout campaign, but the 23-year-old will continue to have solid appeal in deeper fantasy formats as long as he maintains a top-six role.
