Suter signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with the Blues on Wednesday. Suter was bought out by the Stars in June, the second time he's been bought out since 2021. The 39-year-old defenseman has the ability to earn an additional $2.225 million in performance bonuses. Suter remains capable as a third-pairing defenseman, but after posting 17 points in 82 regular-season contests last year, there is virtually no upside in his game for fantasy purposes.

Suter will be bought out of the last year of his contract by the Stars, Jeff Marek of Sportsnet reports Thursday. Suter is still on the books for the Wild after they previously bought out his contract and will now potentially be costing three different clubs cap space -- assuming he signs elsewhere when the free-agent window opens Monday. During his three-year stint with the Stars, the veteran defenseman played all 246 regular-season games, in which he tallied 12 goals and 62 assists. Given his age, the Madison, Wisconsin native could also opt to hang up his skates rather than extend his career.

Suter notched an assist in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Oilers in Game 2. Suter had a shot redirected in by Mason Marchment at 3:41 of the third period, and that goal was the game-winner. The helper snapped Suter's six-game point drought. The defenseman has been a depth player for the Stars with four points, eight shots on net, 15 blocked shots, 14 hits and a plus-4 rating over 15 playoff outings.

Suter picked up an assist and two PIM in Monday's 4-2 win over the Golden Knights in Game 4. Suter has a helper in each of the last two games after enduring a 12-game slump. The 39-year-old blueliner set up Evgenii Dadonov's first-period marker from a tight angle. Suter will likely continue to see limited ice time in a third-pairing role, though he'll often rotate with different blueliners since Nils Lundkvist is receiving few shifts in close games.

Suter produced an assist, two hits, two blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in Saturday's 3-2 overtime win over the Golden Knights in Game 3. After finishing the regular season with a 10-game point drought, Suter got his first point of the playoffs with a secondary helper on Wyatt Johnston's overtime winner. The 39-year-old Suter has added just three hits, three blocked shots, two PIM and a plus-3 rating with no shots on net over three postseason outings. He'll remain in a third-pairing role, but his ice time is likely to be limited as long as he skates alongside Nils Lundkvist, who has seen minimal usage in the playoffs.
