  • Alec Regula D | EDM

Oilers' Alec Regula: Gets first point of season

Regula logged an assist and went plus-3 in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Maple Leafs.

Regula finally earned his first point as an Oiler after being plucked off waivers one year and two days ago. He missed all of 2024-25 with a knee injury and dealt with an undisclosed injury in October, so his acclimation to the Oilers hasn't been easy. He's at one helper, 11 shots on net, 11 PIM, 12 hits, 19 blocked shots and a minus-6 rating over 18 appearances. He's virtually guaranteed a spot in the lineup following the Oilers' dealings Friday, which sent Brett Kulak to Pittsburgh and brought Spencer Stastney in from Nashville. Once Jake Walman (lower body) is healthy, Regula will compete with Ty Emberson and Stastney to round out the Oilers' blue line.

  • Oilers' Darnell Nurse: Scores go-ahead goal

Nurse scored a goal and went plus-3 in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Maple Leafs.

Nurse had been limited to two assists over his previous nine games. His tally late in the second period gave the Oilers a 3-2 lead, setting the stage for their dominant final frame. Nurse is up to six goals, six helpers, 75 shots on net, 70 blocked shots, 46 hits, 43 PIM and a minus-5 rating over 32 appearances in a top-four role this season.

  • Maple Leafs' Matias Maccelli: Scratched for seventh straight game

Maccelli was a healthy scratch Saturday.

He has watched from the press box for seven straight games. And prior to that, Maccelli had one assist and three shots in his previous eight games. He's simply not a Craig Berube guy, which means a trade could be possible. But his output makes that all but impossible. Maccelli has four goals and five assists in 22 games this season.

  • Zach Hyman C | EDM

Oilers' Zach Hyman: Four goals in last two games

Hyman scored a goal Saturday in a 6-3 win over Toronto.

He poked in a loose puck at the side of the net after Ryan Nugent-Hopkins centered it from below the goal line. Hyman had a hat trick Thursday against the Red Wings. He hasn't missed a beat since joining the Oilers after a long injury absence. Hyman has six goals, four assists and 32 shots in 13 games.

  • Kevin Hayes RW | PIT

Penguins' Kevin Hayes: Lights lamp in loss

Hayes scored a goal on two shots in Saturday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Sharks.

Hayes has been back in a bottom-six role lately, and he logged a season-low 9:19 of ice time in this contest. The center has three goals, two assists, 29 shots on net, 19 hits and a minus-1 rating over 15 appearances. Hayes likely won't see consistent top-six minutes, so his usefulness in fantasy is low.

  • Maple Leafs' Oliver Ekman-Larsson: Snaps six-game point drought

Ekman-Larsson scored a goal Saturday in a 6-3 loss to the Oilers.

He wired a shot glove side from the high slot; it put the Leafs up 2-1 early in the second. It was Ekman-Larsson's first point in six games (13 shots). He's on a pace that could see him equal his career mark of 55 points, which he set 10 years ago. His success that season was built on the power play, where he recorded half of his points. Ekman-Larsson is doing it the hard way this year with just three of his 21 points coming with the man advantage.

  • Penguins' Rutger McGroarty: Pots goal in overtime loss

McGroarty scored a goal on four shots in Saturday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Sharks.

McGroarty logged his first goal and point in six games for the Penguins this season. He's added 17 shots on net, nine hits and a minus-3 rating. He was tearing up the AHL after recovering from an upper-body injury, but the 21-year-old winger has been challenged by the NHL while seeing middle-six minutes. He's not a must have in fantasy until he lands alongside Sidney Crosby on the top line, which is a spot he'll have to earn by first succeeding lower in the lineup.

  • Sharks' Sam Dickinson: Notches helper Saturday

Dickinson posted an assist, two hits and two blocked shots in Saturday's 6-5 overtime win over the Penguins.

Dickinson had gone 12 games without a point, posting a minus-6 rating and 12 blocked shots in that span. The Sharks have sheltered him on the third pairing, but he's played in all seven games in December since the team hasn't had a back-to-back set yet this month. Dickinson's at three points, 24 shots on net, 22 hits, 22 blocked shots and a minus-5 rating over 26 appearances so far. He's already burned the first year of his entry-level deal, but the 19-year-old's participation in the upcoming World Junior Championship hasn't been decided upon yet. He may benefit from a couple of weeks away from the NHL to build some confidence since he hasn't been logging much ice time or offense in his rookie year.

  • Maple Leafs' Steven Lorentz: Snaps 10-game goal slump

Lorentz scored a goal and added an assist in a 6-3 loss to the Oilers on Saturday.

Lorentz snapped a 10-game goal drought (one assist) with the snipe. He and Scott Laughton have shown solid chemistry on line four, and the addition of Easton Cowan has helped bolster that trio. Lorentz has 54 hits in 25 games, which slides him into the league's top-100. But nine points (three goals, six assists) in 25 games aren't enough to pull him off the wire.

  • Collin Graf RW | SJ

Sharks' Collin Graf: Generates pair of helpers

Graf logged two assists, two hits and a plus-2 rating in Saturday's 6-5 overtime win over the Penguins.

Graf had gone 11 games without a helper, though he had four goals in that span. The 23-year-old has gotten more looks in the top six recently, emerging as an all-situations forward on this young Sharks team. Graf is up to 15 points, 33 shots on net, 34 hits, 26 blocked shots and a plus-2 rating through 32 appearances. He's already surpassed the 11 points he had in 33 outings a year ago, and a season around the 30-point mark is in play if he stays healthy.
