Elias Pettersson C | VAN
Canucks' Elias Pettersson: Placed on injured reserve
Pettersson (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve Friday, retroactive to Dec. 23.
Pettersson has already missed three games, and he is eligible to return whenever he's ready. Earlier Friday, Pettersson was labeled close to a return and will be on the Canucks' road trip that begins Monday in Montreal. Arturs Silovs was called up from AHL Abbotsford in a corresponding move Friday.

Mason Appleton C | DET
Jets' Mason Appleton: Placed on injured reserve
Appleton (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Friday, retroactive to Dec. 28.
Appleton has been dealing with a lower-body injury since late December, and his move to injured reserve isn't particularly surprising after head coach Scott Arniel labeled him day-to-day. It's not yet clear when Appleton will be able to return to game action, but David Gustafsson will likely continue to see more consistent playing time in his absence.

Nico Sturm C | MIN
Sharks' Nico Sturm: Deemed game-time decision
Sturm is considered a game-time decision for Saturday's game against the Devils for an undisclosed reason, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.
Sturm missed five games in November due to an upper-body injury, but he's appeared in every game since then, and it's unclear what injury he's dealing with ahead of Saturday's matchup. If the 29-year-old is sidelined against New Jersey, Ty Dellandrea could enter the lineup.

Ross Colton C | COL
Avalanche's Ross Colton: Scores goal Thursday
Colton scored a goal on two shots, added two PIM and logged two hits in Thursday's 6-5 overtime win over the Sabres.
Colton has scored in back-to-back contests, but he has a modest four goals with no assists over his last 12 outings. The 28-year-old has remained on the second line lately -- he was on the wing Thursday after playing a couple of games at center. For the season, he has 12 goals, one assist, 57 shots on net, 55 hits and a minus-2 rating through 22 appearances. His penalty Thursday was the first he's taken all year after logging at least 50 PIM in each of the previous two campaigns.

Mark Kastelic C | BOS
Bruins' Mark Kastelic: Inks three-year extension
Kastelic signed a three-year, $4.701 million contract extension with the Bruins on Friday.
Kastelic will complete the final campaign of his two-year, $1.67 million contract before this new deal will begin with the 2025-26 campaign. The 25-year-old forward has four goals, 11 points, 76 PIM and 151 hits in 39 outings. He's likely to continue to serve in a bottom-six capacity through the life of his new contract.

Elias Pettersson C | VAN
Canucks' Elias Pettersson: Nearing return
Head coach Rick Tocchet said Friday that Pettersson (undisclosed) will travel with the Canucks on their upcoming road trip and is "getting close" to returning, Jeff Paterson of CanucksArmy.com reports.
Pettersson has been sidelined since sustaining an injury against the Sharks on Dec. 23, but he's trending in the right direction. Vancouver's road trip begins in Montreal on Monday, and while it's not yet clear whether he'll be able to suit up for that matchup, it wouldn't be surprising to see him return to action before the Canucks return home to face the Kings on Jan. 16.

Cole Sillinger C | CLB
Blue Jackets' Cole Sillinger: Manages helper in loss
Sillinger logged an assist and two shots on goal in Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Red Wings.
Sillinger ended a six-game point drought with the helper. The 21-year-old center has mainly been on the second line lately, but he hasn't found enough consistency on offense. For the season, he's at six goals, 21 points, 92 shots on net, 53 hits, 29 PIM and a minus-12 rating, providing a physical edge to go with supplementary scoring.
-
Sean Monahan C | CLB
Blue Jackets' Sean Monahan: Tallies in loss
Monahan scored a goal on two shots and won 16 of 25 faceoffs in Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Red Wings.
Monahan continues to pour on the offense -- he has five goals and seven helpers over his last seven contests. He's earned three power-play points in that span, so he's not overly reliant on producing with the man advantage. The center is up to 14 goals, 37 points (seven on the power play), 103 shots on net and a plus-16 rating over 39 appearances in a top-line role this season.

Tyler Motte C | DET
Red Wings' Tyler Motte: Sets up game-winner Thursday
Motte notched an assist and two shots on goal in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Blue Jackets.
Motte fed Jonatan Berggren just out of the penalty box for the game-winning goal at 19:24 of the third period. With two points over his last five games, Motte has found a little more success, but he's also been scratched twice in that span. The 29-year-old forward has three points, 27 shots on net, 31 hits, 20 blocked shots and a minus-8 rating over 23 appearances in a fourth-line role this season.
