  • Kevin Rooney C | UTA

Mammoth's Kevin Rooney: Links up with new club

Rooney inked a one-year, two-way contract with the Mammoth on Monday, per PuckPedia.

Rooney signed a professional tryout agreement with the Devils in early September, but it seems as though his play in the preseason earned him a full contract with his new club. Considering he's on a two-way deal, the veteran center might begin the 2025-26 season in the minors, but he could be called up at some point during the early portion of the year if Alex Kerfoot (lower body) misses substantial time.

  • Zach Hyman C | EDM

Oilers' Zach Hyman: Opens season on LTIR

Hyman (wrist) was placed on long-term injured reserve Monday, according to PuckPedia.

Hyman won't be available during the first month of the 2025-26 season, as he's expected to join the team in early November. Trent Frederic is set to be the biggest beneficiary of Hyman's absence, as the former is slated to the start the year on the top line next to Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.

  • Maple Leafs' Scott Laughton: Starting year on IR

Laughton (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Monday, according to PuckPedia.

The Maple Leafs relayed Friday that Laughton is week-to-week after sustaining a lower-body injury. The veteran forward is entering the final season of a five-year, $15 million contract that he signed with the Flyers in April of 2021. The Ontario native contributed two goals and two assists over 20 regular-season games with Toronto in 2024-25 after being acquired from Philadelphia in March.

  • Avalanche's Nikita Prishchepov: Lands on injured, non-roster list

Prishchepov was designated for non-roster, injured reserve Monday with an undisclosed injury.

Prishchepov played in 10 regular-season games for the Avalanche last year but failed to register a point. The 21-year-old winger managed 10 hits, four shots on goal and two blocked shots while averaging a mere 6:22 of ice time in those outings. Once the Russian is given the green light to return, he will likely be reassigned to AHL Colorado to start the 2025-26 campaign.

  • Lightning's Zemgus Girgensons: Surfaces on IR

Girgensons (undisclosed) was moved to injured reserve Monday.

Girgensons will miss at least the first two games of the 2025-26 campaign after landing on the IR list. However, it is unclear when he will be available to return to the lineup. He had two goals, four assists, 83 shots on net, 50 blocked shots and 174 hits across 82 regular-season outings in 2024-25.

  • Nick Paul C | TB

Lightning's Nick Paul: Put on LTIR

Paul (upper body) was placed on long-term injured reserve Monday.

Paul won't be available to return from offseason surgery until early November. He accounted for 22 goals, 41 points, 141 shots on net and 66 hits across 76 regular-season appearances in 2024-25. Once he's healthy, he will be in the mix for a middle-six role and could see time on the second power-play unit.

  • Flames' Martin Pospisil: Moves to IR

Pospisil (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve Monday.

Pospisil won't be available for Opening Night against Edmonton on Wednesday, but he is eligible to be removed from the IR list as early as Thursday versus Vancouver. However, an exact timeline for his return is unclear. Pospisil registered four goals, 25 points, 114 shots on net, 301 hits and 84 PIM across 81 regular-season outings in 2024-25.

  • Flames' Jonathan Huberdeau: Goes on IR

Huberdeau (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve Monday.

Huberdeau will miss Wednesday's season opener against Edmonton, but he is eligible to return as early as Thursday's matchup versus Vancouver. Still, it's unclear when he will be ready to play after skipping Monday's practice. He racked up 28 goals, 62 points and 153 shots on net across 81 regular-season outings in 2024-25. With Huberdeau unavailable, Joel Farabee could skate alongside Nazem Kadri on Opening Night.

  • Mammoth's Alex Kerfoot: Shifts to IR

Kerfoot (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Monday.

Kerfoot missed training camp due to the injury, and he will begin the 2025-26 campaign on the shelf. It remains unclear how long he will be out of commission, but he has been week-to-week since the start of camp. Kerfoot had 11 goals, 28 points, 101 shots on net and 67 blocked shots across 81 regular-season appearances in 2024-25.

  • Greg McKegg C | EDM

Greg McKegg: Returns to the KHL

McKegg signed with Shanghai of the KHL on Monday.

McKegg will make the move to Shanghai to join the Dragons for the remainder of the season. The 33-year-old has 233 career NHL games on his resume, but hasn't appeared in a game since the 2021-22 season as a member of the Rangers. At this stage, a return to the NHL looks highly unlikely.
