Curtis Douglas C | VAN
Mammoth's Curtis Douglas: Claimed off waivers
Douglas was claimed off waivers by the Lightning on Monday.
Douglas was placed on waivers by the Mammoth on Sunday, and he'll join a new organization a day later. He was slated to head to AHL Tucson if he went unclaimed on waivers, and it wouldn't be surprising to still see him head to the minors after he spent all of the last two seasons in the AHL.

Chase Wheatcroft C | DAL
Stars' Chase Wheatcroft: Placed on non-roster IR
Wheatcroft (wrist) was placed on non-roster injured reserve Monday.
Wheatcroft is expected to be out until at least mid-October due to a wrist injury, so it isn't very surprising to see him begin the regular season on injured reserve. He made 67 regular-season appearances for AHL Texas last year and will likely head back to the minors once he's healthy.

Oskar Back C | DAL
Stars' Oskar Back: Lands on IR
Back (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve Monday.
Back missed Saturday's preseason finale against Colorado due to an undisclosed injury, and he'll be forced to miss the start of the regular season. Once he's healthy, he'll likely have to settle for a bottom-six role during the 2025-26 campaign.

Jonathan Huberdeau C | CGY
Flames' Jonathan Huberdeau: Out for beginning of season
Huberdeau (undisclosed) won't be ready to play Opening Night against Edmonton on Wednesday, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.
Huberdeau's availability for the second half of Calgary's back-to-back versus Vancouver on Thursday is unclear. Head coach Ryan Huska is hopeful that it will be a short-term absence. The 32-year-old Huberdeau registered 28 goals and 62 points across 81 regular-season outings in 2024-25.

Martin Pospisil C | CGY
Flames' Martin Pospisil: Not available Opening Night
Pospisil will not be available for Wednesday's season opener against Edmonton, per Eric Francis of Sportsnet.
Pospisil missed the final preseason game with an undisclosed injury. While considered a short-term injury, he'll be forced to watch the season opener from the press box. When healthy, he profiles as a depth forward for the Flames and offers little in the way of fantasy upside. Given the Flames are starting the season with back-to-back games, it seems unlikely Pospisil will play Thursday night in Vancouver either.

Tim Washe C | ANA
Ducks' Tim Washe: Sent down Monday
Washe was assigned to AHL San Diego on Monday, Zach Cavanagh of The Sporting Tribune reports.
Washe inked a two-year deal with the Ducks in August that is a two-way agreement for the 2025-26 campaign. He'll be left off the team's Opening Night roster, but he'll likely be in the mix to be called up if Anaheim needs additional depth at some point. He recorded 16 goals and 38 points over 42 collegiate appearances for Western Michigan University last season.

Mattias Janmark C | EDM
Oilers' Mattias Janmark: Lands on injured reserve
Janmark (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve Monday.
Janmark has dealt with an undisclosed injury over the past few days, and he's believed to have a return timetable of approximately 1-2 weeks. The 32-year-old will officially miss the start of the regular season, but he could return sometime around mid-October if he's able to meet his initial recovery timeline. James Hamblin was called up in a corresponding move Monday and could see playing time early in the regular season.
-
Ryan Greene C | CHI
Blackhawks' Ryan Greene: Recalled by Chicago
Greene was recalled from AHL Rockford on Monday.
Greene signed an entry-level contract with Chicago in April, and he made two regular-season appearances for the Blackhawks last spring. He'll provide additional depth for the Blackhawks early in the 2025-26 campaign since Landon Slaggert (lower body) will begin the year on injured reserve. However, it wouldn't be surprising to see Greene head back to the minors once Slaggert is healthy.

Connor McDavid C | EDM
Oilers' Connor McDavid: Signs two-year extension
McDavid agreed to terms on a two-year, $25 million contract extension with Edmonton on Monday.
McDavid's deal comes in well short of the massive contract just signed by Kirill Kaprizov ($17 million AAV). Still, it is a short-term bridge deal that will allow McDavid to cash in sooner by going with significantly less term. The world-class center will also be able to see how much the team progresses over the next three seasons before deciding whether to commit to Edmonton long term. McDavid figures to be a lock for the 100-point mark, a threshold he's reached in five straight campaigns, and he should be near the top of the league in points -- as long as he doesn't miss significant time due to injury like he did last season, when he was limited to just 67 regular-season games.

Anton Lundell C | FLA
Panthers' Anton Lundell: Cleared for Opening Night
Head coach Paul Maurice said Monday that Lundell (upper body) is good to go for Tuesday's Opening Night matchup against Chicago, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Lundell suffered an upper-body injury in Thursday's preseason game against the Lightning, and he was considered day-to-day afterward. However, he won't be forced to miss the start of the regular season due to the issue. The 24-year-old recorded 17 goals, 28 assists, 110 hits, 54 blocked shots and 36 PIM while averaging 16:43 of ice time over 79 regular-season appearances with Florida last year.
