  • Ducks' Mason McTavish: Absent from camp

McTavish remains mired in a contract dispute with the Ducks and wasn't on the ice Thursday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

McTavish is reportedly working out with OHL Ottawa while he awaits a new contract. A restricted free agent, the 22-year-old center has reached the 40-point threshold in each of his first three full NHL campaigns, including last year when he set personal bests in goals (22) and assists (30). At this point, it seems unlikely McTavish will be signed in time to play in either of the Ducks' first two preseason contests versus the Kings and Mammoth on Sunday and Monday, respectively.

  • Devils' Nico Hischier: Kicks off camp Thursday

Hischier (lower body) participated in Thursday's training camp session, Mike Morreale of NHL.com reports.

Hischier was injured at the 2025 IIHF World Championship but seems no worse for wear as NHL training camps kick off. Despite playing in just 75 regular-season contests last year, the 26-year-old center still managed to set a new career best in goals (35) and power-play points (29). He'll look to once again push for the 40-goal threshold this year while offering top-end fantasy value.

  • Jack Hughes C | NJ

Devils' Jack Hughes: Says he's healthy to begin camp

Hughes (shoulder) said Thursday that he's healthy and feeling good as training camp gets underway, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.

Hughes made 62 regular-season appearances for New Jersey last year, logging 27 goals, 43 assists, 29 blocked shots and 18 PIM while averaging 20:54 of ice time. However, he missed the end of the year after undergoing shoulder surgery. Despite his procedure, he indicated that he's back to full health for the start of camp and is eager to get back on the ice ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

  • Oilers' Ryan Nugent-Hopkins: Looks to be healthy for camp

Nugent-Hopkins (hand) participated in Thursday's practice session, signaling that he appears to be healthy ahead of the 2025-26 season, Tony Brar of Oilers TV reports.

Nugent-Hopkins played through a broken hand during the last four games of the 2025 Stanley Cup Finals, but he appears to be back to full health for the start of training camp ahead of the upcoming campaign. The 32-year-old appeared in 78 regular-season games last year, logging 20 goals, 29 assists, 48 blocked shots, 26 hits and 24 PIM while averaging 18:58 of ice time.

  • Blackhawks' Jason Dickinson: Participates in Thursday's practice

Dickinson (wrist) participated in Thursday's scrimmage to begin training camp, Charlie Roumeliotis of WGN Radio reports.

Dickinson missed the final few weeks of the 2024-25 campaign due to a wrist injury, but he appears to be healthy ahead of the 2025-26 season, and he was skating on the second line during Thursday's scrimmage. He'll likely handle a middle-six role this year after he recorded seven goals, nine assists, 102 hits, 53 blocked shots and 38 PIM while averaging 15:42 of ice time over 59 regular-season appearances last year.

  • Wild's Joel Eriksson Ek: Looks healthy to begin camp

Eriksson Ek (abdomen) participated in Thursday's scrimmage to begin training camp, signaling that he should be healthy ahead of the 2025-26 campaign, Michael Russo of The Athletic reports.

Eriksson Ek underwent core muscle surgery during the offseason but appeared to be healthy, as expected, as the Wild opened camp Thursday. Over 46 regular-season appearances in 2024-25, Eriksson Ek accrued 14 goals, 15 assists, 82 hits, 36 blocked shots and 22 PIM while averaging 19:46 of ice time.

  • Golden Knights' Colton Sissons: Healthy for start of camp

Sissons (lower body) is healthy for the start of training camp, Danny Webster of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports Thursday.

Sissons missed the end of the 2024-25 campaign due to a lower-body injury, but he's back to full health to begin his time with his new team after being traded to the Golden Knights from the Predators in the offseason. Sissons' production took a hit last year, as he recorded seven goals, 14 assists, 100 hits and 67 blocked shots while averaging 14:22 of ice time. He'll attempt to bounce back in 2025-26, and he'll likely handle a bottom-six role with Vegas.

  • Canadiens' Oliver Kapanen: Leaves practice early

Kapanen left Thursday's practice session early after taking a stick close to his left eye, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

While Kapanen was unable to finish Thursday's practice, his injury is considered minor, so he can be deemed day-to-day ahead of Monday's preseason opener against Pittsburgh. Kapanen made 18 regular-season appearances for Montreal last year and recorded two assists, eight blocked shots and two PIM while averaging 10:53 of ice time.

  • Max Domi C | TOR

Maple Leafs' Max Domi: Recovering from lower-body injury

Domi was skating with the development staff Thursday as he continues to recover from a lower-body injury, David Alter of The Hockey News reports.

Domi is dealing with a lower-body injury to begin training camp, but it's encouraging that he's at least able to participate in some on-ice activities. A timetable for his return to game action isn't yet clear, but given his activity level Thursday, it seems as though he'll at least be in the mix to be available for Opening Night against Montreal on Oct. 8.

  • Noel Acciari C | PIT

Penguins' Noel Acciari: Dealing with core muscle injury

Acciari will miss the start of training camp due to a core muscle injury, Matt Vensel of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports Thursday.

According to Dave Molinari of Pittsburgh Hockey Now, Acciari is still expected back during preseason, so he should be cleared before Opening Night against the Rangers on Oct. 7. When in the lineup last year, the 33-year-old Acciari notched five goals, seven assists and 75 shots in 79 regular-season contests. With the Pens looking to get younger this year, Acciari could find himself serving plenty of time in the press box as a healthy scratch.
