NHL Player News

  • Carl Berglund: Dropped by Sharks

Berglund was not issued a qualifying offer ahead of Monday's deadline.

Berglund hasn't made his NHL debut yet, and at this point, it seems like he may never get a chance to do so. In order to extend his playing career, the Swede will need to either sign a minor-league deal or head back to Europe.

  • Isac Lundestrom: Doesn't receive qualifying offer

The Ducks didn't tender a qualifying offer to Lundestrom on Monday, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Lundestrom appeared in 79 games for the Ducks during the 2024-25 campaign, recording four goals, 11 assists, 68 blocked shots and 48 hits while averaging 13:33 of ice time. The 25-year-old was limited mainly to a bottom-six role and will now need to seek out other opportunities after spending the first seven years of his career in Anaheim.

  • Aatu Raty C | VAN

Canucks' Aatu Raty: Pens two-year pact

Raty signed a two-year, $1.55 million contract with Vancouver on Monday.

Raty collected 17 goals and 40 points in 43 AHL regular-season appearances with Abbotsford last campaign. He also had seven goals, four assists, 34 shots on net and 80 hits across 33 NHL outings with Vancouver in the 2024-25 regular season. Raty will compete for a depth role with the big club during training camp.

  • Philipp Kurashev: Set to test open market

Kurashev won't receive a qualifying offer from Chicago on Monday, making him an unrestricted free agent, according to Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times.

Kurashev contributed seven goals and 14 points in 51 regular-season appearances with the Blackhawks in 2024-25 while averaging only 13:43 of ice time per game. The 25-year-old forward had 18 tallies and 36 assists across 75 outings in the 2023-24 regular season. If he receives an increased role in the right situation, he could have bounce-back potential in the 2025-26 campaign.

  • Max Sasson C | VAN

Canucks' Max Sasson: Pens one-year deal

Sasson agreed to terms on a one-year, $775,000 contract with Vancouver on Monday, PuckPedia reports.

Sasson's new deal is a one-way contract, so he should be expected to earn a roster spot coming out of training camp. During his 2024-25 campaign, the 24-year-old center saw action in 29 regular-season outings for the Canucks, notching three goals, four assists, 31 shots on net and 18 hits. Sasson should be in the mix for a bottom-six role that likely won't come with power-play minutes, making him unlikely to be a fantasy option in most formats.

  • Emil Bemstrom: Set for free agency

Bemstrom will not be qualified by the Penguins on Monday, Penguins play-by-play announcer Josh Getzoff reports, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Bemstrom saw action in 14 NHL games this past season in which he garnered just one assist, 13 shots and 12 hits while averaging 8:20 of ice time. Given his limited NHL opportunities last year, it shouldn't come as a surprise to see the Pens going in a different direction. The 26-year-old center will be free to sign with any NHL club when free agency opens Tuesday.

  • Vasily Ponomarev: Won't receive qualifying offer

Ponomarev will not be given a qualifying offer from the Penguins, Penguins play-by-play announcer Josh Getzoff reports Monday.

Ponomarev already agreed to terms on a three-year contract with Avangard Omsk (KHL), so he wasn't going to be playing for the franchise any time soon. It seems the Pens won't bother trying to retain his NHL rights that long, so if Ponomarev decides to return in the future, he will be able to sign with any NHL club.

  • Noah Philp C | CAR

Oilers' Noah Philp: Signs two-way deal

Philp put pen to paper on a one-year, two-way contract with Edmonton on Monday.

Philp played in 15 regular-season contests for the Oilers this past year in which he notched two assists, 17 shots and 15 hits while averaging 9:05 of ice time. While the 26-year-old center was on the roster during the postseason, he never made an appearance in a playoff game. Look for Philp to spend the bulk of the upcoming campaign in the minors with AHL Bakersfield given his offensive limitations.

  • John Beecher C | CGY

Bruins' John Beecher: Inks one-year contract

Beecher (undisclosed) penned a one-year, $900,000 contract with Boston on Monday.

Beecher recorded three goals and eight helpers in 78 regular-season games for the Bruins in 2024-25. With a new contract in hand, the 24-year-old center figures to be a fourth-line staple for the Bruins this season -- though he could move up if there are injury concerns at the center position. Despite offseason surgery for an undisclosed injury, Beecher is expected to be healthy for the start of the 2025-26 campaign.

  • Golden Knights' Colton Sissons: Dealt away from Nashville

Sissons (lower body) and Jeremy Lauzon (lower body) were obtained by the Golden Knights from the Predators on Sunday in exchange for Nicolas Hague and a conditional 2027 third-round draft pick, per Darren Dreger of TSN.

Sissons missed the last nine games of 2024-25 after banking seven goals, 21 points and 100 hits over 72 games with the Predators. With this move west, Sissons could unseat Cole Schwindt for the fourth-line center role, but the former may find it difficult to move up the depth chart, as Vegas has a deep top nine. Sissons will be an unrestricted free agent after the 2025-26 campaign, so he should have plenty of motivation to prove his worth to his new club. Nashville agreed to retain 50 percent of Sissons' salary.
