Connor McDavid C | EDM
Oilers' Connor McDavid: Writes name in record book
McDavid pocketed two power-play assists in Canada's 3-2 win over Finland in the semifinals of the 2026 Winter Olympics on Friday.
With Canada staring at a 2-0 deficit early in the second period, the Oilers superstar helped spark the comeback by having a hand in a Sam Reinhart tally. McDavid then helped set up Nathan MacKinnon for the game-winner with just 36 seconds left in regulation. McDavid has compiled two goals and 13 points through five games in the tournament, setting the record for the most points ever in an Olympics involving NHL players. He'll look to add to his total Sunday when Canada faces the United States in the gold-medal game.

Tage Thompson C | BUF
Sabres' Tage Thompson: Likely to play in gold medal game
Thompson is expected to be available for Sunday's gold medal game versus Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics, Luke Fox of Sportsnet reports.
Thompson blocked a shot off his foot and was unable to finish Friday's 6-2 win over Slovakia. The 28-year-old looks set to play through the issue Sunday, though it's unclear if the Sabres will give him any time off once the NHL campaign resumes.

John Beecher C | CGY
Flames' John Beecher: Activated Friday
Beecher (upper body) was removed from injured reserve on Friday, Ryan Pike of Flames Nation reports.
Beecher missed 15 games due to the injury sustained in a fight versus Nashville on Jan. 3. The 24-year-old forward will be a candidate to fill bottom-six minutes for the Flames, though he's hardly a lock to be in the lineup.

Blake Coleman C | CGY
Flames' Blake Coleman: Removed from IR
Coleman (upper body) was activated from injured reserve Friday, Ryan Pike of Flames Nation reports.
Coleman's activation indicates he'll be ready to go for Thursday's game versus the Sharks. The 34-year-old should be expected to see middle-six minutes and time on the penalty kill in his return. He missed the Flames' last 12 contests before the Olympic break.

Tage Thompson C | BUF
Sabres' Tage Thompson: Out for remainder of semifinal
Thompson has been ruled out for the remainder of Friday's semifinal matchup against Slovakia at the 2026 Winter Olympics due to precautionary reasons, Dan Rosen of NHL.com reports.
Thompson didn't come out for the third period and was ruled out for the remainder of the game shortly afterward. The United States had a five-goal lead at the time of Thompson's departure, and it seems as though the team was just being cautious with him. It wouldn't be surprising if he were available for the conclusion of the tournament.

Matt Rempe C | NYR
Rangers' Matt Rempe: Heading to injured reserve
Rempe will undergo a procedure on his thumb and will be placed on injured reserve, Peter Baugh of The Athletic reports Friday.
The 23-year-old is still dealing with a thumb issue months after a fight with Ryan Reaves in October. Rempe will be unavailable when the Rangers resume play after the Olympic break. It's not yet clear when he will be able to return to action, but the team indicated Friday that the forward hasn't been ruled out for the season.

Filip Chytil C | VAN
Canucks' Filip Chytil: Suffers facial fracture
Chytil sustained a facial fracture after being struck by a puck during Wednesday's practice, and he's out indefinitely, Jeff Paterson of CanucksArmy.com reports Friday.
Chytil didn't play in Feb. 4's 5-2 loss to Vegas because of migraines. It's not clear if his migraine issues are behind him, but the facial fracture will keep him out for a considerable amount of time, regardless. While being limited to just 12 appearances this season, he has contributed only three goals, six PIM and 24 shots.

Benoit-Olivier Groulx C | TOR
Maple Leafs' Benoit-Olivier Groulx: Returns to AHL
Groulx was reassigned to AHL Toronto on Friday.
Groulx was recalled by the Maple Leafs on Thursday so that he could attend the team's practice in place of Max Domi (personal). The NHL's Olympic break hasn't ended, so naturally, Groulx didn't get a chance to get into a game for the Leafs during this brief stint.
-
Robert Thomas C | STL
Blues' Robert Thomas: Returns to practice Friday
Thomas (leg) participated in Friday's practice session, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports.
Thomas underwent a minor leg procedure at the end of January with the expectation that he would be ready to return in the first game after the Olympic break. While it's not yet clear whether Thomas will officially get the green light for Thursday's game against Seattle, it's at least encouraging that he's back at practice.

Sidney Crosby C | PIT
Penguins' Sidney Crosby: Ruled out Friday
Crosby (lower body) will not be available for Team Canada versus Finland in semifinal action at the 2026 Winter Olympics on Friday, Mark Masters of TSN reports.
Crosby sustained a suspected knee injury against Czechia on Wednesday. He hasn't been ruled out for the remainder of the tournament, but it's unclear if he will be ready to play in Sunday's gold medal game or Saturday's bronze medal matchup. Connor McDavid will serve as Canada's captain in Friday's contest due to Crosby's absence, while Sam Bennett (illness) will be in the lineup.
