Oilers' Jake Walman: Could play in preseason finale

Walman (undisclosed) might be ready to play in Friday's preseason finale against Vancouver, per Tony Brar of Oilers TV on Monday.

Walman remains day-to-day, but he is expected to be ready for the start of the 2025-26 campaign. The 29-year-old defender accounted for seven goals, 40 points, 164 shots on net, 145 blocked shots and 57 hits across 65 regular-season games between Edmonton and San Jose in 2024-25.

  • Kevin Gravel D | NSH

Predators' Kevin Gravel: Lands on waivers

Gravel was placed on waivers by the Predators on Monday, James Mirtle of The Athletic reports.

Gravel was limited to six regular-season appearances with the Predators last year, and it isn't very surprising to see him left off the team's Opening Night roster ahead of the 2025-26 campaign. Over 61 regular-season appearances with AHL Milwaukee last year, he recorded five goals, 15 assists and 29 PIM. He'll likely head back to the AHL if he clears waivers.

  • Predators' Jordan Oesterle: Waived for reassignment

Oesterle was waived by the Predators on Monday, James Mirtle of The Athletic reports.

Oesterle has plenty of NHL experience under his belt (408 games), so it wouldn't be a complete shock to see a team snag him off waivers to serve as a seventh defenseman. Either way, the 33-year-old blueliner shouldn't be expected to be an every-night player at this point in his career, so fantasy players, even in deep formats, will probably want to pursue other options.

  • Rangers' Derrick Pouliot: Waived Monday

Pouliot was placed on waivers by the Rangers on Monday, James Mirtle of The Athletic reports.

Pouliot hasn't played in an NHL game since the 2023-24 campaign, when he appeared in five regular-season contests for the Stars. In those outings, the 31-year-old blueliner failed to record a point while notching five shots, four hits and five blocked shots. Selected by the Penguins with the eighth overall pick in 2012, Pouliot has never lived up to the billing. Expect him to spend the bulk of the upcoming season in the minors with AHL Hartford.

  • Helge Grans D | PHI

Flyers' Helge Grans: Hits waiver wire

Grans was moved to waivers Monday, according to James Mirtle of The Athletic.

Grans picked up one assist, five goals on goal, five blocked shots and four hits in six regular-season appearances with the Flyers in 2024-25. He had eight goals and 23 points in 66 games for AHL Lehigh Valley last campaign before adding one goal and three assists in seven playoff outings. Assuming he clears waivers, he could spend most of the year with Philadelphia's top minor-league affiliate again.

  • Canucks' Jimmy Schuldt: Shifts to waivers

Schuldt was put on waivers Monday, according to James Mirtle of The Athletic.

Schuldt collected six goals and 21 points in 64 games with AHL San Jose during the 2024-25 regular season. He didn't hit the scoresheet in eight NHL outings with the Sharks last year. Schuldt could spend the majority of this campaign in the minors.

  • Sabres' Mattias Samuelsson: Considered week-to-week

Samuelsson (upper body) is week-to-week after aggravating his injury, according to Heather Engel of NHL.com on Monday.

Samuelsson probably won't play again during the exhibition schedule, which ends with a trip to Pittsburgh on Friday. However, it's unclear if he will be ready for the beginning of the regular season. If Samuelsson remains unavailable, Ryan Johnson or Jacob Bryson could be in Buffalo's Opening Night lineup against the Rangers on Oct. 9.

  • Bowen Byram D | BUF

Sabres' Bowen Byram: Day-to-day with injury

Byram suffered an undisclosed injury against Detroit on Saturday and is considered day-to-day, Heather Engel of NHL.com reports.

According to head coach Lindy Ruff, Byram might be ready to skate Tuesday, so he hasn't been officially ruled out versus Pittsburgh on Wednesday. Considering it is still the preseason, the team could decide to hold the 24-year-old blueliner out a little longer to make sure he is available for Opening Night against the Rangers on Oct. 9.

  • Jets' Dylan Samberg: Suffers broken wrist

Samberg (upper body) will be out of action for 6-8 weeks after sustaining a broken wrist, Mitchell Clinton of the Jets' official site reports Monday.

Samberg was likely going to start the season on the Jets' second pairing but instead will miss the first two months of the 2025-26 campaign. With the Minnesota native on the shelf, it will open up a roster spot for the likes of Logan Stanley or Ville Heinola, while Colin Miller could see the biggest uptick in ice time.

  • Sharks' Lucas Carlsson: Won't play Monday

Carlsson (lower body) has been ruled out for Monday's preseason game against the Ducks, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Carlsson has spent the start of training camp recovering from offseason surgery to address a lower-body injury. He returned to the ice last week but will miss another preseason game Monday. It's not yet clear whether he'll be cleared to return to game action before the end of the preseason, but he'll likely head to the minors once the regular season gets underway.
