Red Wings' Simon Edvinsson: Expected to return Friday
Edvinsson (upper body) will be activated from injured reserve ahead of his return to the lineup against Toronto on Friday, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Edvinsson missed three games with the injury. The talented rookie has three goals, 10 assists, 28 hits and 52 blocked shots in 30 appearances this season. He should return to his spot on the top pairing alongside Moritz Seider.

Avalanche's Josh Manson: Unavailable Friday
Manson (upper body) will not be in the lineup versus Utah on Friday, according to Brennan Vogt of Mile High Hockey.
Manson will miss his 13th consecutive game. Manson has one goal, five assists, 51 hits and 34 blocked shots through 24 outings in 2024-25. He could return as early as Tuesday when the Avalanche face Winnipeg.

Nick DeSimone D | UTA
Devils' Nick DeSimone: Recalled Friday
DeSimone was called up from AHL Utica on Friday.
DeSimone has been a healthy scratch in all 18 NHL games that he has been rostered this season. The veteran defenseman had three assists in 12 AHL games before his recall. Expect DeSimone to be a healthy scratch versus Carolina on Friday.

Lian Bichsel D | DAL
Stars' Lian Bichsel: Returns to Dallas
Bichsel was recalled from AHL Texas on Friday, according to Stars radio analyst Bruce LeVine.
Bichsel has played six games at the NHL level this season, scoring a pair of goals. The 20-year-old was selected 18th overall in 2022 and the Stars are quite enamored with the behemoth defenseman, who already has 20 hits in the NHL, including six versus Utah on Monday.

Denton Mateychuk D | CLB
Blue Jackets' Denton Mateychuk: Ascends to top level
The Blue Jackets recalled Mateychuk from AHL Cleveland on Friday.
Mateychuk is a highly-regarded prospect, as he was selected 12th overall in 2022. The defenseman made his NHL debut Monday and saw 18:36 of ice time, including 1:06 on the second power play. Look for Mateychuk to remain at the NHL level, as he has conquered the AHL, tallying nine goals and 25 points in 27 games with the Monsters.

Nathan Clurman D | MON
Penguins' Nate Clurman: Sent down in likely paper move
Clurman was reassigned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Tuesday, Seth Rorabaugh of Tribune-Review Sports reports.

Simon Benoit D | TOR
Maple Leafs' Simon Benoit: Goes quiet on offense
Benoit has no points while recording 35 hits and 14 blocked shots over 12 contests in December.
Benoit is a physical force on the Maple Leafs' third pairing, which has helped him to stay in the lineup. Offense isn't a big part of his playing style, which limits his fantasy value to banger formats. The 26-year-old is at three assists, 86 hits, 49 blocked shots, 26 PIM, 22 shots on net and a plus-4 rating through 33 appearances.

Josh Mahura D | SEA
Kraken's Josh Mahura: Regains regular role
Mahura played in the Kraken's three games prior to the holiday break.
Mahura exited the lineup once the Kraken got healthy on defense, but the Dec. 18 trade that sent Will Borgen to the Rangers created an opening in the lineup once again. The 26-year-old Mahura has just one assist to go with 19 shots on net, 36 hits, 17 blocked shots and a minus-1 rating over 24 appearances. He has limited scoring upside and doesn't add much more in physicality. However, he should be able to stay in the lineup for a while even if the Kraken call up a blueliner from AHL Coachella Valley to provide extra depth.
