  • Wild's Filip Gustavsson: In goal versus Oilers

Gustavsson will get the starting nod at home against Edmonton on Wednesday, Jessi Pierce of NHL.com reports.

Gustavsson has been struggling of late, going 0-2-0 in his last three appearances while sporting a disastrous 5.81 GAA and .829 save percentage. Despite his underwhelming performances, the 26-year-old backstop will start for the ninth time in the Wild's last 11 outings. Still, if Gustavsson stumbles again, the team will have to consider giving more opportunities to Marc-Andre Fleury, who is currently riding a three-game winning streak.

  • Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Traveling with team

Although Lindgren (upper body) won't return Thursday in Ottawa, he will travel with the Capitals, according to Tom Gulitti of NHL.com.

Lindgren practiced with the Capitals on Wednesday and traveling will allow him to continue to skate with his teammates. He seems to be making good progress and might return as early as Saturday versus Pittsburgh. The 31-year-old has a 10-8-2 record, 2.65 GAA and .900 save percentage in 21 appearances in 2024-25.

  • Islanders' Marcus Hogberg: Out-dueled in Tuesday's loss

Hogberg turned aside 25 of 26 shots in Tuesday's 2-0 loss to the Senators, with Ottawa's final goal getting scored into an empty net.

The 30-year-old netminder made his NHL debut with Ottawa in 2018-19 and did his best to deliver a revenge game against his former organization, but Adam Gaudette tipped a point shot past Hogberg in the second period, and it was all the offense Leevi Merilainen would need in the other crease. Hogberg has started two straight games while Ilya Sorokin dealt with an illness and played well, allowing only two goals on 48 shots, but Sorokin figures to reclaim the No. 1 job as soon as he's deemed fit. Semyon Varlamov (lower body) has no timeline for his return from LTIR however, and Hogberg's recent performances might earn him more consistent work as Sorokin's backup.

  • Senators' Leevi Merilainen: Blanks Isles for second shutout

Merilainen made 24 saves in Tuesday's 2-0 win over the Islanders.

All of a sudden, the 22-year-old rookie might be the hottest goalie in the NHL. Merilainen has started three straight games and won all three, with two of those outings producing his first two career shutouts. In seven outings since he was called up in mid-December, he's gone 5-2-0 with a 1.98 GAA and .925 save percentage, and the Senators appear willing to give him a shot at taking the No. 1 job away from Anton Forsberg. There's no timeline yet for Linus Ullmark (back) to make his return from IR, but the Sens could have a dilemma on their hands when he does -- or an opportunity to trade one of their veteran netminders -- if Merilainen is still surging.

  • Dan Vladar G | PHI

Flames' Dan Vladar: Held out of win column again

Vladar made 23 saves on 25 shots in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to St. Louis.

Vladar didn't have much of a chance on the Blues' game-winning goal, as Radek Faksa perfectly redirected Tyler Tucker's point shot into the top right corner of the net. Vladar is mired in a five-game losing streak -- his last win was Dec. 10 against Nashville. The 27-year-old has a 6-9-5 record, .889 save percentage and 3.03 GAA through 20 appearances in 2024-25. Dustin Wolf has firmly taken over as Calgary's No. 1 netminder after he and Vladar shared the workload for much of the early portion of the season.

  • Blues' Jordan Binnington: Back in win column

Binnington turned aside 26 of 27 shots in Tuesday's 2-1 win over Calgary.

Binnington was sharp in a relatively low-event game, as the Blues jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 0:49 of the first period -- the next goal didn't come until Kevin Bahl tied the game at 6:06 of the final frame. Binnington has allowed eight goals on 102 shots (.922 save percentage) over four appearances in January, posting a 2-2-0 record in that span. The Blues are in the thick of the wild-card race in the Western Conference, so Binnington should continue to see a hefty workload in the second half. The 31-year-old is up to a 12-16-3 record, .900 save percentage and 2.79 GAA through 32 appearances this campaign.

  • Hurricanes' Dustin Tokarski: Expected to face Buffalo

Tokarski is slated to start on the road against the Sabres on Wednesday.

Tokarski has a 4-1-0 record, 1.99 GAA and .907 save percentage in five appearances in 2024-25. He earned a 14-save shutout over Vancouver in his last start Friday. Buffalo is tied for 12th offensively with 3.02 goals per game, but the Sabres have a woeful 16-22-5 record, which puts them in the Eastern Conference basement.

  • Blue Jackets' Daniil Tarasov: Snags win in return

Tarasov stopped 23 shots in regulation and overtime and both shootout attempts he faced in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Flyers.

In his return from a conditioning stint at AHL Cleveland, Tarasov was able to record his first NHL win since Oct. 22. The 25-year-old netminder still wasn't exactly sharp, however -- Philadelphia's second goal came on a shot from long range by Owen Tippett in the third period that Tarasov got a fairly clean look at. Tarasov is 4-6-1 on the season with a 3.99 GAA and .862 save percentage, and he would seem to be little threat to Elvis Merzlikins' spot at the top of the Columbus depth chart.

  • Ivan Fedotov G | CLB

Flyers' Ivan Fedotov: Falls to Jackets in shootout

Fedotov turned aside 26 shots in regulation and overtime and one of three shootout attempts in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Blue Jackets.

The 28-year-old goalie was able to shut down most of Columbus' skaters, but Zach Werenski found the back of the net in the first and third periods, and Fedotov then had little luck in the shootout. His last win came back on Nov. 29, but Fedotov has started three of the last six games for Philadelphia, going 0-1-2 with a 2.59 GAA and .886 save percentage. However, Samuel Ersson has been picking up steam again, so playing time for Fedotov and Aleksei Kolosov could begin to dry up.

  • Penguins' Tristan Jarry: Lead slips away late Tuesday

Jarry stopped 14 of 17 shots in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Kraken, with Seattle's final goal getting scored into an empty net.

The Penguins controlled the first two periods and out-shot the visitors 28-10, but they only had a 2-1 lead to show for it. That gave Jarry no margin for error in the third when his defense fell asleep, leading to two goals 50 seconds apart in the final frame by Jamie Oleksiak and Eeli Tolvanen. Jarry hasn't picked up a win since Dec. 23, going 0-3-2 over his last six outings with a 2.85 GAA and .881 save percentage as he remains in a timeshare with Alex Nedeljkovic.
