  • Cam Talbot G | DET

Red Wings' Cam Talbot: Rough night in blue paint

Talbot made 23 saves Thursday in a 7-2 loss to the Islanders.

This loss certainly wasn't all on Talbot, but he'd presumably like a few of his opportunities back. The Wings will recalibrate after losing a second straight game. They aren't the team that started 5-0-0, but they aren't as bad as they looked Thursday.

  • Canadiens' Sam Montembeault: Surrenders six goals in loss

Montembeault stopped 23 of 29 shots in Thursday's 6-5 loss to the Oilers.

Montembeault ceded the crease to Jakub Dobes in consecutive games, which were both Canadiens wins. In his return to the crease, Montembeault put in his worst performance of the campaign, dropping to 2-3-0 with a 3.82 GAA and an .842 save percentage through five starts. It's unclear how long the Canadiens will tolerate his subpar play, especially when he's yet to face 30 shots in a game. A further slump by Montembeault could open the door for Dobes to see at least an even split of starts for a while. The Canadiens continue their road trip in Vancouver on Saturday.

  • Panthers' Sergei Bobrovsky: Gives up five goals in loss

Bobrovsky made 11 saves in a 5-3 loss to Pittsburgh on Thursday.

Bobrovsky surrendered three even-strength goals and two on the power play. His stat line for the night was poor, but he should be fine, and he's already shown during his career that he can bounce back from lackluster starts.

  • Oilers' Calvin Pickard: Ugly outing in win

Pickard stopped 22 of 27 shots in Thursday's 6-5 win over the Canadiens.

Pickard was far from his best in this contest, but the Oilers were able to pull off a comeback with a three-goal third period. The 33-year-old netminder improved to 2-1-0 on the year, but he's allowed 10 goals on 64 shots, so he has yet to really look comfortable between the pipes. Stuart Skinner has also had some troubles -- expect the Oilers to give both goalies fairly regular time until one can get in a groove. They should each get a start over the weekend with Edmonton set for road games in Seattle on Saturday and in Vancouver on Sunday.

  • Penguins' Tristan Jarry: Brilliant in third win of season

Jarry made 34 saves in a 5-3 win over the Panthers on Thursday.

Jarry looked great Thursday against the two-time Stanley Cup champions, continuing his solid start to the season. He's now 3-1-0 with a 2.52 GAA and .921 save percentage in a timeshare with Arturs Silovs.

  • Blackhawks' Spencer Knight: Continues to rack up early success

Knight allowed two goals on 31 shots Tuesday in a 3-2 win over Tampa Bay.

It appears as though the Blackhawks have found some stability in the net. Knight is 3-2-1 in six starts with a 1.97 GAA and .937 save percentage. Perhaps more impressively, he is leading the NHL in goals saved above expectation (GSAx) with 9.8. Jakub Dobes is second with 7.8 and Connor Hellebuyck has a 7.7 score in that category. The season will be long for Knight and the Blackhawks, but the young netminder is showing off his skill early in the year, and that skill is going to help.

  • Predators' Jack Ivankovic: Backstops big win for Wolverines

Ivankovic posted a 32-save shutout in the University of Michigan's 4-0 win over Western Michigan University on Thursday.

In a showdown between two of the top teams in college hockey, Ivankovic got the job done for the Wolverines. He has started all seven of their games this season and is undefeated with two shutouts, a 1.00 GAA and a .954 save percentage. The 2025 second-round pick is off to a dream start in his collegiate career and should continue to play well behind a strong team.

  • Lightning's Andrei Vasilevskiy: Still winless this season

Vasilevskiy made 22 saves in a 3-2 loss to Chicago on Thursday.

The loss was heartbreaking -- Vasilevskiy moved out of position to make a save on Frank Nazar, and the rebound when straight to Ryan Donato, who buried the winner into an open net with just 54 seconds left in the third period. Vasilevskiy is 0-3-2 with a 3.41 GAA and .885 save percentage to start the season. Fantasy managers could consider benching him until his cold spell comes to an end.

  • Kings' Darcy Kuemper: Protecting road goal in Dallas

Kuemper will guard the road net against the Stars on Thursday, Zach Dooley of the Kings' official site reports.

Kuemper was in goal for a 2-1 overtime win over the Blues on Tuesday in his return from a lower-body injury. The Stars' offense has slowed down lately, with just five goals scored during a three-game losing streak. Kuemper will look to stay sharp, especially if the Kings' defense can limit the Stars' chances.

  • Hurricanes' Frederik Andersen: Expected to start Thursday

Andersen is slated to start on the road against Colorado on Thursday, per Bailey Curtis of DNVR Sports.

Andersen and Brandon Bussi had been in a rotation recently, but it seems that will end with Andersen set to make his second straight start. The 36-year-old Andersen has a 3-1-0 record, 2.46 GAA and .894 save percentage in four appearances this year. Colorado presents a tough matchup -- the Avalanche are tied for fifth in goals per game with 3.43.
