  • John Gibson G | DET

Red Wings' John Gibson: Allows four goals in loss

Gibson stopped 27 of 31 shots in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the Sabres.

Gibson had won his previous two starts, and he kept the Sabres off the board for half the game. They then scored two goals in the second and third periods, which the Red Wings couldn't match. Gibson is 2-2-0 with 12 goals allowed over four starts this season. He's not bringing much consistency to the crease, and Cam Talbot has won all three of his starts so far. Talbot is likely to get the nod for Thursday versus the Islanders, but it's anybody's guess who gets the crease for Detroit beyond that.

  • Colten Ellis G | BUF

Sabres' Colten Ellis: Wins first appearance

Ellis stopped 27 of 29 shots in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Red Wings.

Ellis stood tall against a tough opponent to come away with the win in his NHL debut. The 25-year-old was acquired by the Sabres prior to the start of the season when they claimed him off waivers from the Blues. Ellis has settled in as Alex Lyon's backup, but this strong performance could help Ellis gain more playing time. He doesn't have long to make an impression, as Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (lower body) is with AHL Rochester on a conditioning assignment. Expect Lyon and Ellis to split the Sabres' upcoming home-and-home set versus the Maple Leafs on Friday and Saturday.

  • Adin Hill G | LV

Golden Knights' Adin Hill: Considered week-to-week

Head coach Bruce Cassidy said Wednesday that Hill (lower body) is considered week-to-week, Danny Webster of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

Hill sustained a lower-body injury during Monday's win over the Hurricanes, and he won't travel with the Golden Knights on the team's upcoming three-game road trip. Akira Schmid will likely serve as the team's primary netminder in Hill's absence, while Carl Lindbom will be the backup after being recalled from AHL Henderson on Wednesday.

  • Kings' Pheonix Copley: Back on waivers

Copley was designated for waivers by the Kings on Wednesday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

It's been a whirlwind October for Copley, who was placed on waivers by Los Angeles on Oct. 1, picked up by the Lightning and then traded back to the Kings on Oct. 15 for future considerations. If he goes unclaimed this time around, he will report to AHL Ontario. Despite his shuffles around the league, Copley hasn't appeared in an NHL game this year.

  • Canadiens' Sam Montembeault: Set to start Thursday

Montembeault will defend the road crease against Edmonton on Wednesday, Eric Engels of Sportsnet reports.

Jakub Dobes will draw the road start against Calgary on Wednesday, but Montembeault will return to the crease in the second half of the back-to-back set. Montembeault has made four starts this season, going 2-2-0 with a 3.26 GAA and an .857 save percentage.

  • Jakub Dobes G | MON

Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Gets starting nod versus Flames

Dobes will be between the away pipes against Calgary on Wednesday, Eric Engels of Sportsnet reports.

Dobes is unbeaten through his first three appearances of the season, posting a 1.63 GAA and a .939 save percentage along the way. While it hasn't quite been an even split of the workload right now with Sam Montembeault, Dobes has featured in three of the Habs' opening seven contests and should continue to see plenty of opportunities if he keeps playing at this level.

  • Bruins' Jeremy Swayman: Beaten four times Tuesday

Swayman stopped 19 of 23 shots in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Panthers.

Swayman opened the season with back-to-back wins while stopping 56 of the 58 shots he faced in that span, but the wheels have fallen off quickly. He is currently riding a three-game losing skid, a stretch where he's posted a 4.38 GAA and a subpar .866 save percentage. Boston hosts the Ducks on Thursday, and it's unclear if Swayman or Joonas Korpisalo will get the starting nod.

  • Panthers' Sergei Bobrovsky: Earns win over Boston

Bobrovsky stopped 28 of 31 shots in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Bruins.

Bobrovsky bounced back after losing his previous two starts, at Detroit and Buffalo, and ended the road trip on a high note in terms of results. That said, he's posted a save percentage below .910 in each of his past three appearances and is coming off back-to-back games where he's allowed at least three goals. His next chance to snap that run will come at home against the Penguins on Thursday, a matchup that figures to be favorable for Bobrovsky on paper.

  • Ilya Sorokin G | NYI

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Gets starting nod for Saturday

Sorokin will defend the cage for Saturday's road clash with the Flyers, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.

While David Rittich gets the nod at home against the Wings on Thursday, Sorokin will get some extra rest before suiting up in the first game of the Isles' four-game road trip. After starting the campaign with three straight losses, the 30-year-old Sorokin has bounced back with wins in each of his last two appearances. Still, the Russian netminder has allowed three or more goals in all five of his outings this year and will need to be significantly better if he is going to reach the 30-win mark for the second consecutive season.

  • Wild's Filip Gustavsson: In goal Wednesday

Gustavsson will get the starting nod on the road versus the Devils on Wednesday, Wild radio broadcaster Joe O'Donnell reports.

Gustavsson is coming off a 23-save performance against the Rangers on Monday in which he secured his second victory of the season. It's been an up-and-down start to the campaign for the 27-year-old netminder, as he has given up five or more goals twice in just five outings while also posting a shutout in the season opener. Despite the inconsistencies, Gustavsson figures to remain the No. 1 option ahead of Jesper Wallstedt.
