  • Mammoth's Karel Vejmelka: Allows one goal in win

Vejmelka stopped 19 of 20 shots in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Flames.

Vejmelka has won his last two starts and looks to be in a groove early in the season. He's allowed a total of five goals on 70 shots this season, with his lone mistake Wednesday being an unlucky bounce of a Rasmus Andersson shot. Vejmelka is likely to continue getting a majority of the starts for the Mammoth, who host the Sharks on Friday for their next game.

  • Cam Talbot G | DET

Red Wings' Cam Talbot: Shines in win over Florida

Talbot stopped 20 of 21 shots in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Panthers.

Brad Marchand scored Florida's only goal on a wraparound in the second period, but Talbot was excellent the rest of the way. The 38-year-old Talbot has been playing at a high level of late, winning each of his last three starts while stopping 78 of 84 shots.

  • Panthers' Sergei Bobrovsky: Beaten twice Wednesday

Bobrovsky stopped 21 of the 23 shots he faced in Wednesday's 4-1 loss to the Red Wings. The final two goals were empty-netters in the final two minutes of the third period.

Mason Appleton and Patrick Kane found the twine behind Bobrovsky in the second period.. The Red Wings handed Bobrovsky his first defeat of the season, but he continues to play at a high level. He hasn't allowed more than two goals in any of his four starts.

  • Kings' Carter George: Posts fifth OHL shutout

George posted a 29-save shutout in OHL Owen Sound's 6-0 win over Barrie on Wednesday.

George is off to a strong start in the OHL this year, going 5-1-0 over six games. This was his fifth career shutout for the Attack, though he didn't have any in 47 regular-season appearances in 2024-25. George is a Kings prospect and saw some time as an emergency backup during the 2025 playoffs, but he didn't make an appearance. The 19-year-old netminder is likely multiple years away from challenging for a full-time NHL gig.

  • Blackhawks' Arvid Soderblom: Set to start Wednesday

Soderblom will guard the road goal versus the Blues on Wednesday, Matthew DeFranks of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Soderblom will get his second start in the Blackhawks' first five games. He lost his season debut, allowing four goals on 33 shots in an overtime defeat at the hands of the Bruins. Soderblom will need to put together good performances when he starts, or Spencer Knight will end up with a hefty workload in 2025-26.

  • Alex Lyon G | BUF

Sabres' Alex Lyon: Receiving starting nod

Lyon will guard the home goal versus the Senators on Wednesday, Heather Engel of NHL.com reports.

Lyon has opened the season 0-3-0, but he has allowed just eight goals on 99 shots over his three starts. He continues to occupy the starting role while the Sabres wait for Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (lower body) to recover. Lyon should still see a decent share of starts, assuming his performance doesn't dip, once Luukkonen return.

  • Kings' Erik Portillo: Returns to minors

Portillo was reassigned to AHL Ontario on Wednesday.

The Kings promptly returned Portillo to the minors after acquiring Pheonix Copley from Tampa Bay on Wednesday for future considerations. Copley could compete for playing time with Anton Forsberg if Darcy Kuemper (lower body) misses any game action. The 25-year-old Portillo has a 3.50 GAA and an .854 save percentage in two outings with Ontario this year.

  • Kings' Pheonix Copley: Acquired for considerations

Copley was traded to the Kings from the Lightning for future considerations Wednesday.

Copley was picked up off waivers by the Lightning on Oct. 2 when there were some questions regarding the health of Andrei Vasilevskiy. With their starter good to go, the Bolts no longer needed Copley and opted to trade him back to the Kings rather than sticking him back on waivers. Now back with LA, Copley will provide some extra depth while Darcy Kuemper (lower body) is dealing with an injury of his own.

  • Kings' Darcy Kuemper: Labeled day-to-day

Kuemper was absent from practice Wednesday and is considered day-to-day, per Zach Dooley of the Kings' official site.

Head coach Jim Hiller announced that Kuemper is day-to-day with a lower-body injury. The veteran netminder has struggled out of the gate this season, allowing at least three goals in all three of his starts and posting an ugly .868 save percentage in the process. That's a sharp contrast to last season, where he posted a sparkling 2.20 GAA and .922 save percentage across 50 regular-season starts. With this injury appearing to be minor, the short reset may help him settle in as a high-end fantasy goaltender once again. In the meantime, Anton Forsberg will likely try to hold down the fort between the pipes for Los Angeles against Pittsburgh on Thursday.

  • Mammoth's Karel Vejmelka: First goalie off Wednesday

Vejmelka was the first goalie to leave the ice Wednesday, Cole Bagley of KSL Sports reports, indicating he'll guard the cage at home versus the Flames.

Vejmelka will be back between the pipes after getting the night off versus Chicago on Monday. In two appearances this year, the 29-year-old backstop is 1-1-0 with a 2.00 GAA and a .920 save percentage. Vejmelka should see the bulk of the starts this season, with Vitek Vanecek serving as the No. 2 option.
