Martin Fehervary D | WAS
Capitals' Martin Fehervary: Skating ahead of season
Fehervary was on the ice for an informal skate with teammates Friday, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports.
Fehervary is coming off a career year in which he set new personal bests in assists (22) and points (27). Despite the lack of power-play minutes, the 26-year-old blueliner should be in contention to challenge for the 30-point mark, especially with the additional two games this year.

Matt Roy D | WAS
Capitals' Matt Roy: Taking part in informal skates
Roy participated in Friday's informal skates, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports.
Roy scored just two goals in 79 regular-season games last year, missing the 20-point threshold for the first time since 2020-21. The 31-year-old blueliner should be capable of getting back over that threshold despite not having a role with the man advantage.

Pierre-Luc Dubois C | WAS
Capitals' Pierre-Luc Dubois: On the ice Friday
Dubois (hand) took part in Friday's informal skate with teammates, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports.
Dubois missed the regular-season finale versus the Blue Jackets but looks poised to start the 2026-27 season without any limitations. While the veteran center continued to find ways to produce, he scored only one goal in his last 18 contests while chipping in 12 helpers. With injuries limiting Dubois to just 29 appearances last year, he failed to reach the 20-goal mark for just the fourth time in his career. Dubois is set to be a bounce-back candidate heading into the 2026-27 campaign.

Pheonix Copley G | CLB
Blue Jackets' Pheonix Copley: Set for backup role
Copley is expected to step into the backup role due to Elvis Merzlikins (shoulder) being on the shelf, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports.
Copley logged just one NHL game for the Kings last season in which he gave up three goals on 28 shots in a loss to the Kraken on Dec. 23. Back in 2022-23, the 34-year-old Copley backstopped the Kings 37 times, going 24-6-3 with a 2.64 GAA, and could see a similar workload this season depending on the severity of Merzlikins' injury.

Jet Greaves G | CLB
Blue Jackets' Jet Greaves: Could see plenty of work early in year
Greaves will be in line to see plenty of work early in the 2026-27 regular season if Elvis Merzlikins (shoulder) is forced to miss time, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports Thursday.
After excelling over a limited sample during the 2024-25 campaign, Greaves saw a sharp uptick in work last season and remained effective, going 26-19-9 with a 2.60 GAA and .908 save percentage across 55 regular-season appearances. Although Greaves served as the Blue Jackets' No. 1 netminder last year, he still had to split some time with Merzlikins, who made 30 regular-season appearances. However, Merzlikins underwent successful shoulder surgery Monday and doesn't yet have a timetable to return, so Greaves could see even more work early in the 2026-27 season if Merzlikins' procedure forces him to miss games. If Merzlikins is sidelined to begin the year, Pheonix Copley would be in line to serve as the team's No. 2 netminder.

Elvis Merzlikins G | TOR
Blue Jackets' Elvis Merzlikins: Undergoes shoulder surgery
Merzlikins underwent successful shoulder surgery Monday and doesn't yet have a timetable to return.
Merzlikins recently informed the team that he experienced some shoulder discomfort during offseason workouts, and an MRI revealed that surgery was the best way to proceed. The Blue Jackets plan to evaluate the netminder again in a few weeks, but it's not yet clear when he'll be able to resume on-ice activities or return to game action. If Merzlikins is unavailable to begin the regular season, Jet Greaves should see plenty of opportunities as the team's primary goalie, while Pheonix Copley would presumably serve as the No. 2 option in net. Merzlikins made 30 regular-season appearances for the Blue Jackets last year, going 14-11-3 with a 3.39 GAA and .883 save percentage.

Morgan Rielly D | TOR
Maple Leafs' Morgan Rielly: Expects to stay with Toronto
Rielly told reporters he expects to begin 2026-27 with the Maple Leafs, Dave McCarthy of NHL.com reports.
Rielly was the subject of trade rumors during the offseason, and he submitted a four-team list of potential trade destinations. With no deal coming to fruition yet, Rielly appears ready to get to work with the only NHL team he's known so far. He struggled a bit in 2025-26 with 36 points in 78 regular-season games, his lowest total in a full-length campaign since 2016-17. He is also at risk of seeing less power-play time this year after Toronto added Darren Raddysh to the fold during the offseason.

Scott Morrow D | NYR
Rangers' Scott Morrow: Inks two-way deal
Morrow agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way contract with the Rangers on Wednesday.
Morrow played in 29 regular-season games for New York last year, generating six assists and 24 shots without finding the back of the net. At this point, the 23-year-old blueliner faces an uphill battle to secure a spot on the Opening Night roster given the organization's defensive depth.
-
Hunter McDonald D | PHI
Flyers' Hunter McDonald: Signs second contract with Flyers
McDonald inked a two-year, $1.825 million contract with the Flyers on Tuesday.
McDonald's new contract will be a two-way agreement for 2026-27, and it will convert to a one-way deal in 2027-28. The 2022 sixth-round pick made his NHL debut with the Flyers last season, recording an assist, four PIM, five hits and a plus-3 rating in a 4-2 win over the Canadiens on April 14. The 24-year-old defenseman posted just six points (all assists) over 65 regular-season games with AHL Lehigh Valley in 2025-26, so he should be expected to be a regular in the minors once again this year.

Ryan Pulock D | NYI
Islanders' Ryan Pulock: Expected to be ready for camp
Pulock had offseason shoulder surgery but should be ready for training camp in September, according to Ethan Sears of the New York Post on May 8.
Pulock had three goals, 27 points, 93 shots on net and 148 blocked shots across 76 appearances during the 2025-26 regular season. He played through shoulder and knee issues for most of the year, but it appears as though he will be ready for the start of the 2026-27 campaign.
