  • John Gibson G | DET

Red Wings' John Gibson: Facing Sharks

Gibson is expected to defend the home crease versus San Jose on Friday, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.

Gibson had a rare night off Tuesday after starting five straight games. The netminder is 13-2-0 with a 2.07 GAA and a .930 save percentage since the beginning of December. Overall, Gibson is 17-9-1 with three shutouts, a 2.75 GAA and a .903 save percentage across 28 appearances this season. The Sharks are 15th in NHL scoring, generating 3.13 goals per game.

  • Jacob Fowler G | MON

Canadiens' Jacob Fowler: Sent down to minors

Fowler was reassigned to AHL Laval on Friday

The Habs have been carrying three goalies for a while, so it's not a huge surprise they decided to return Fowler to the minors. Still, his stint with the Rocket could be short-lived. Assuming he plays for the minor-league club against AHL Manitoba on Friday or Saturday, he could be recalled ahead of Tuesday's clash with Minnesota.

  • Owen Beck C | MON

Canadiens' Owen Beck: Returned to Laval

Beck was reassigned to AHL Laval on Friday.

Beck has one goal and 24 hits in 15 games with the Canadiens this season. The center was a healthy scratch the last two games, and at the tender age of 21, Beck needs the playing time he will get at the AHL level.

  • Flyers' Denver Barkey: Garners two helpers in loss

Barkey notched two assists, three shots on goal and a plus-2 rating in Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Penguins.

Barkey was scratched in Buffalo on Wednesday, and he responded well when he checked back into the lineup. His line with Sean Couturier and Matvei Michkov was arguably the Flyers' best unit in a game where no one looked all that good. Barkey has a goal, four assists, 14 shots on net, 10 hits and a minus-1 rating over 12 appearances. He'll need to continue to prove himself to avoid a demotion to AHL Lehigh Valley, but Barkey's competitive, two-way game bodes well for his long-term future in the NHL.

  • Nick Seeler D | PHI

Flyers' Nick Seeler: Nets goal in loss

Seeler scored a goal on three shots in Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Penguins.

Seeler's tally midway through the third period was too late to flip the script on this game. He's scored both of his goals this season over the last seven games, and he has three points in January after being limited to one assist in December. The defenseman has seven points, 61 shots on net, 79 hits, 89 blocked shots, 21 PIM and a minus-5 rating over 46 appearances while filling a shutdown role on the blue line.

  • Penguins' Evgeni Malkin: Puts up pair of helpers

Malkin notched two assists, including one on the power play, in Thursday's 6-3 win over the Flyers.

Malkin is rolling again with two goals and three helpers over five games since he returned from an upper-body injury. The 39-year-old set up goals by Yegor Chinakhov and Sidney Crosby in this contest. Malkin is at 34 points (15 on the power play), 74 shots on net, 26 PIM and a plus-8 rating through 31 appearances as a steady part of the Penguins' second line. While he's historically been a center throughout his career, he's working on the wing currently, which gives him versatility in some fantasy formats.

  • Connor Dewar C | PIT

Penguins' Connor Dewar: Pots goal in win

Dewar scored a goal on two shots and went plus-2 in Thursday's 6-3 win over the Flyers.

Every Penguin forward got on the board, including Dewar with a third-period insurance tally. The 26-year-old forward has been pretty good in a fourth-line role this season, earning five points over eight games in January. He's up to a total of nine goals, 17 points, 70 shots on net, 80 hits, 22 blocked shots and a plus-2 rating over 46 appearances. He's two points shy of matching his career high from 2023-24, split between Toronto and Minnesota.

  • Penguins' Blake Lizotte: Goal, fight in win

Lizotte scored a goal and added seven PIM in Thursday's 6-3 win over the Flyers.

Lizotte stretched the Penguins' lead to 4-1 in the second period, getting a piece of a Noel Acciari attempt on the way to the net. Through eight games in January, Lizotte has three goals and an assist. The 28-year-old forward signed a three-year extension with the Penguins on Monday, so he looks to be part of the team's long-term plans in the bottom six. He's at six goals, five assists, 38 shots on net, 33 hits, 19 blocked shots, 17 PIM and a plus-7 rating over 37 appearances.

  • Penguins' Yegor Chinakhov: Tickles twine Thursday

Chinakhov scored a goal on two shots in Thursday's 6-3 win over the Flyers.

Chinakhov stretched the Penguins' lead to 3-0 in the second period. He's up to three goals and an assist over eight outings in January, which already matches his goal total from 29 games with the Blue Jackets to begin the season. The 24-year-old has 10 points, 50 shots on net, 33 hits and a minus-4 rating over 37 appearances. While he's officially on the second line for the Penguins, his ice time remains limited at 12:12 per game since the trade, so Chinakhov is functionally more of a bottom-six forward still.

  • Bryan Rust RW | PIT

Penguins' Bryan Rust: Buries power-play goal

Rust scored a power-play goal on two shots in Thursday's 6-3 win over the Flyers.

Rust had gone three games without a point and also missed two contests due to a lower-body injury in that scoreless span. The veteran winger is up to 17 goals, 37 points, 112 shots on net, 47 blocked shots and a minus-3 rating over 42 appearances. He's earned 17 points on the power play, one shy of his total last year and four off his career-best mark in the category from 2021-22.
