NHL Player News

  • Angus Booth D | LA

Kings' Angus Booth: Returned to AHL affiliate

Booth was loaned to AHL Ontario on Sunday.

Booth was a healthy scratch in Saturday's 2-0 win over Calgary. He has produced one goal and 10 points in 42 minor-league appearances this season. Booth will probably be in the lineup for Sunday's matchup against AHL Bakersfield.

  • Luke Hughes D | NJ

Devils' Luke Hughes: Nabs assist in return

Hughes registered an assist and two shots on goal in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Blues.

Hughes missed 10 games due to a shoulder injury. The 22-year-old defenseman is up to 27 points (eight on the power play), 106 shots on net, 40 blocked shots, 24 PIM and a minus-7 rating over 50 appearances. It's not clear if the shoulder injury was related to previous injuries that impacted him early in each of the last two campaigns, though it's a concern that he continues to deal with issues in that area. As long as he can stay healthy, Hughes should be good for top-four minutes and power-play time.

  • Sharks' Alex Nedeljkovic: Sunday starter

Nedeljkovic is starting Sunday's game against the Jets, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.

Nedeljkovic will make his first start since Jan. 31 with the Sharks on the second leg of a back-to-back. The 30-year-old is 10-9-2 with a 2.91 GAA and an .899 save percentage entering play Sunday. He faces a Jets team that scores 2.86 goals per game, 24th in the league.

  • Timo Meier RW | NJ

Devils' Timo Meier: Scores in win

Meier scored a goal on eight shots, added two PIM, doled out two hits and blocked three shots in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Blues.

Meier has two goals in three games since the Olympic break. The 29-year-old winger has also taken 18 shots on net in that span, so he could cash in a little more often with some puck luck. For the season, he's at 16 goals, 30 points, 194 shots on net, 100 hits, 36 blocked shots and a minus-19 rating over 55 appearances. His 8.2 shooting percentage this year is his worst in the last five campaigns, though the Devils have underwhelmed as a team, which has likely led to some of his struggles.

  • Devils' Nico Hischier: Hits 20-goal mark on empty-netter

Hischier scored an empty-net goal on two shots in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Blues.

Hischier has scored five times and added an assist over his last 10 NHL outings. The 27-year-old center is up to 20 goals, 43 points, 159 shots on net, 44 hits, 49 blocked shots and a minus-8 rating over 60 appearances. That puts him at risk of missing the 60-point mark for the first time in five years, though Hischier has the talent to finish strong this season.

  • Oilers' Trent Frederic: Ends slump in loss

Frederic scored a goal on two shots and added five hits in Saturday's 5-4 loss to the Sharks.

Frederic ended a 28-game point drought with his third-period tally. His first full campaign with the Oilers has been remarkably poor with just four points, 57 shots on net, 149 hits, 47 PIM and a minus-13 rating over 58 appearances. Frederic is still firmly in a bottom-six role and may be an occasional healthy scratch when the Oilers have enough forwards available.

  • Blackhawks' Connor Bedard: Strikes opening power-play goal

Bedard scored a power-play goal, placed three shots on net and served two PIM in Saturday's 3-1 loss to Colorado.

Bedard has scored a goal in each of Chicago's first two games following the Olympic break. Overall, the 20-year-old superstar has 25 goals, 55 points and 151 shots on net across 46 games this season. Bedard has taken a step up in his shooting efficiency this season, as he currently carries a 16.6 shooting percentage compared to his 11.8 percentage across 82 regular-season games a year ago.

  • Jake Walman D | EDM

Oilers' Jake Walman: Scores again Saturday

Walman scored a goal in Saturday's 5-4 loss to the Sharks.

Walman put up four goals in just five games in February. The 30-year-old defenseman looks to have some momentum for the stretch run, which is a positive given all the time he missed due to two injuries earlier in the campaign. He has 18 points, 60 shots on net, 52 blocked shots and a minus-7 rating through 32 appearances.

  • Oilers' Leon Draisaitl: Pots power-play goal

Draisaitl scored a power-play goal on five shots in Saturday's 5-4 loss to the Sharks.

Draisaitl has five points, including three on the power play, over three games since the Olympic break. The 30-year-old is up to 31 goals, 85 points (37 on the power play), 170 shots on net and a plus-12 rating over 58 appearances. Draisaitl will need to keep the offense rolling -- after Tuesday's game versus the Senators, the Oilers have four straight against some of the league's best teams.

  • Sharks' William Eklund: Sets up game-winner

Eklund logged an assist in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Oilers.

Eklund has gone 14 games without a goal, but he's earned eight assists in that span. He also has 27 shots on net, 18 hits and a minus-9 rating over that stretch. The 23-year-old winger has been limited to middle-six minutes recently, making it tough for him to get his offense on track. He has 11 goals, 36 points, 132 shots on net, 47 hits, 36 blocked shots and a minus-27 rating over 53 appearances, taking a noticeable step back from his 58-point effort in 77 outings a year ago.
