- The Phillies have no plans to trade Cliff Lee before Tuesday's deadline, according to sources, wrote CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman.
- The Dodgers and Cubs are stalled on a potential trade for Ryan Dempster, wrote CBSSports.com's Danny Knobler, and the two teams have had discussions about adding Alfonso Soriano or Bryan LaHair to the deal. The potential inclusion of either hitter remains a longshot, however.
- Knobler also noted that the Dodgers have had discussions with the Twins about Justin Morneau and Josh Willingham, but Willingham is unlikely to be traded.
- As for a potential Dodgers and Cubs deal for Dempster, both sides know what each other wants, and now it's all about who blinks first, tweeted ESPN's Buster Olney.
- As Heyman reported Thursday, Dempster loves the Dodgers more than they love him, after Los Angeles rejected a trade, one-for-one, Dempster for Dodgers pitching prospect Allan Webster.
- More from Knobler: he wrote that while the Angels love Zack Greinke, "James Shields might be the one who is their most realistic target."
- Knobler also noted that the Angels' interest in Minnesota's Francisco Liriano has "cooled dramatically."
- The Dodgers' sights may be shifting toward Shields and Josh Johnson, too, wrote Heyman.
- Matt Garza won't pitch until after the trade deadline, and his MRI came back clean. Check out Eye on Baseball for more. Rumors suggest that Garza, under contract for another year, is now likely to be traded in the offseason, instead of at the deadline.
- The Giants, Angels, and Cardinals are the most active teams seeking bullpen relief, tweeted FOXSports.com's Jon Paul Morosi, with the Giants being the most aggressive.
- The Cleveland Indians are in a "holding pattern," tweeted ESPN's Jerry Crasnick. Like everyone else, they're like to upgrade their rotation, but won't deal for a rental player.
- Crasnick also speculates that Asdrubal Cabrera would be a fit at shortstop in Oakland, but notes that the Indians would have to be "blown away" to move him.
- Cleveland will listen to offers for Shin-Soo Choo and Chris Perez, Crasnick also tweeted, but they likely won't be dealt, confirming Heyman's tweet Friday morning.
- Finally, on the Rockies, if Marco Scutaro or Rafael Betancourt are traded, it'll happen on deadline day, tweeted Crasnick.
- If you missed it, Heyman wrote about the Rockies early Friday morning.
