Kazmar announced his retirement from professional baseball Nov. 15.
The 37-year-old ended his 17-year professional career in storybook fashion in 2021, as the longtime minor-league infielder received a call-up to Atlanta from Triple-A Gwinnett in April and played in three games with the big club. Kazmar's April 17 appearance with Atlanta marked his first big-league action in 13 years, after he previously received a cup of coffee with the Padres in 2008. Though Atlanta outrighted Kazmar off its 40-man roster in May and he remained at Gwinnett for the remainder of the season, he'll still receive a World Series ring for playing with the big club earlier in the campaign.

Kazmar was sent down by Atlanta on Saturday, and he'll now be removed from the 40-man roster. The 36-year-old has appeared in just two major-league games to begin the season and has gone 0-for-2 at the plate.

Kazmar has spent a pair of brief stints on the big-league roster, but he has gotten into just three games, all off the bench, going 0-for-2 at the plate. He could continue to bounce on and off the roster throughout the season whenever the team needs an extra infielder. It's difficult to see a path to a regular role for the veteran.

Kazmar spent the last week on the major-league roster but went hitless in his lone at-bat. He'll now head back to alternate camp after Drew Smyly (forearm) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Saturday.
Kazmar's contract was selected by Atlanta on Saturday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Kazmar hasn't appeared in the big leagues since he played 19 games with the Padres in 2008, but he's played at the Triple-A level in the past 12 seasons. The 36-year-old will join Atlanta's major-league roster as depth in the middle infield since Ozzie Albies (calf) is feeling sore after being hit by a pitch Saturday. Kazmar's time with the big-league club could be short-lived, but he'll be in line to make his first major-league appearance since 2008.

Kazmar signed a minor-league contract with the Braves which includes an invitation to spring training.
Kazmar will return to the organization for a sixth straight season after spending the last five at the Triple-A level with Gwinnett, which is where he will likely begin the 2018 campaign. During 99 games with the club last year, he slashed .284/.310/.416 with 11 home runs and 45 RBI.
