Gallardo was in the unfortunate position of being matched up against Blake Snell. He threw three scoreless innings before giving up a three-spot in the fourth, but the Rangers couldn't get anything going against Snell and the Rays' bullpen. In 19 appearances (16 starts) this season Gallardo has a 6.59 ERA and 1.67 WHIP to go with a poor 53:43 K:BB in 84.2 innings. He's slated to take on the Angels in his next start in Los Angeles.

Gallardo was as good as he's been in any outing this season but didn't get the run support that typically shows up for him. He entered the game with a 10.65 run support average in his starts since June 23 -- the highest in the majors during that span. His next start depends on a few factors: the health of Bartolo Colon (back) and Mike Minor (back), whether manager Jeff Banister plans on sticking with the six-man rotation, and how the manager wants to use Thursday's off-day. Gallardo is expected to pitch one of the weekend games in San Francisco.

Gallardo gave up a solo home run in the first inning before allowing a run on two hits in the second. He cruised through the third inning but was pulled in a two-run fourth after allowing four straight batters to reach. Gallardo had won each of his previous four outings and was coming off a quality start versus Seattle, but this dud performance was a reminder that the veteran still owns a 6.39 ERA on the season. The 32-year-old now owns a solid 2.78 ERA across his last four outings, all of which have been victories. He's still walking too many hitters -- 5.16 BB/9 over that four-start stretch -- so it wouldn't be surprising to see him pitch to something close to his season ERA (6.11) moving forward. His next outing will come Tuesday against the Diamondbacks.
