Jay cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

Angels' Jon Jay: Designated for assignment
Jay was designated for assignment by the Angels on Friday.
Anthony Rendon (knee) will be returning from his latest stint on the injured list, which spells the end of Jay's tenure on the active and 40-man rosters. Jay has five hits in 14 trips to the plate so far this year and another team could look at bringing in the veteran for depth.

Angels' Jon Jay: Back in big leagues
Jay had his contract selected by the Angels on Thursday.
Jay has been a part of a number of moves for the Angels this season, already coming off and on the 40-man roster once before. He's not in the starting lineup Thursday, but Jay should serve as depth in the outfield, as the team remains without several regulars due to injury. Albert Pujols was designated for assignment to create room on the 40-man roster.

Jay's contract was selected by the Angels on Tuesday, but he'll be cast off the 40-man roster once again after he went just 1-for--8 with two strikeouts in two contests. Scott Schebler's contract was selected in a corresponding move to serve as outfield depth for the Angels.

Angels' Jon Jay: Contract selected, starting Tuesday
Jay had his contract selected by the Angels on Tuesday and is starting in left field at Kansas City.
The 36-year-old joins the big-league club while Juan Lagares (calf) moves to the injured list, and a spot in Tuesday's starting nine opened up when Justin Upton was scratched with back stiffness. Jay should have plenty of opportunities, as the Angels are hurting for outfielders with Dexter Fowler (knee) already lost for the season.

Jon Jay: Let go by Angels
Jay was released by the Angels on Friday.
Jay was in camp on a minor-league deal, attempting to win a bench spot. An awful spring in which he hit .069/.152/.241 certainly didn't help his case, so he'll head to the open market and look to latch on elsewhere.

Diamondbacks' Jon Jay: Seeing little playing time
Jay remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers.
The 21-34 Diamondbacks aren't incentivized to find playing time for Jay during the final week of the regular season, as the 35-year-old is on an expiring contract and isn't a part of the organization's long-term plan. He's only appeared in four games so far in September, recording no hits in 12 at-bats over those contests.

Diamondbacks' Jon Jay: Swats first home run
Jay started in right field and went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Rockies.
Jay knocked his first home run of the season and delivered his first runs since July 29. Jay has appeared in only 11 of a possible 31 games, so he's not getting consistent plate appearances. As the trade deadline approaches, the 13-18 Diamondbacks will consider their strategy for the rest of the season, and that may mean veterans like Jay take a back seat to the development of younger players.

With Starling Marte getting a night off, Jay made his first start since Aug. 16. Jay is batting .111 (3-for-27) and has only played in 10 games this year.

Diamondbacks' Jon Jay: Makes second start
Jay started at designated hitter and went 1-for-5 with a double and a run scored in Wednesday's 14-7 win over the Astros.
Jay made just his second start of the season. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo has been rotating players in at the DH spot after Jake Lamb's slow start. Jay is 2-for-12 with a double and an RBI in four games played.

Diamondbacks' Jon Jay: Secures roster spot
Manager Torey Lovullo announced Saturday that Jay earned a spot on Arizona's Opening Day roster.
The veteran outfielder joined the Diamondbacks on a minor-league deal in February and wasn't previously on the 40-man roster, but he always seemed likely to be a member of the expanded 30-man group. Jay is likely to fill a reserve role as long as the team's outfielders remain in good health.

Diamondbacks' Jon Jay: Possible Calhoun replacement
Jay was one of the outfielders mentioned by Arizona manager Torey Lovullo on Monday as a replacement for Kole Calhoun (illness), Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
The Diamondbacks announced that Calhoun, the team's projected starter in right field, tested positive for COVID-19 and will be in quarantine. With just over two weeks before the start of the season, the Diamondbacks are not sure when Calhoun can return, so Lovullo provided the name of potential fill-ins. Jay is on the short list along with Josh Rojas and Trayce Thompson.

Diamondbacks' Jon Jay: Officially on 60-man roster
Jay will be a part of the Diamondbacks' 60-man summer camp.
Jay was brought on by Arizona in a minor-league deal in February, and it was reported in mid-March that he would have a chance to claim one of the team's final available bench spots. With rosters expanding to 30 players, it would seem Jay's path is even clearer than before. A lack of playing time opportunities -- even with the universal DH -- could end up limiting his fantasy ceiling, however. He appeared in 47 games for the White Sox in 2019 and posted a .626 OPS, the second-lowest mark of his career.

Diamondbacks' Jon Jay: In hunt for final bench spot
Jay is looking to claim the Diamondbacks' final bench spot, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
Jay, who turned 35 earlier this week, and Josh Rojas, 25, are the most likely candidates to claim the final bench spot. Jay can play all three outfield positions and became a favorite of manager Torey Lovullo during his half-year stint with the Diamondbacks in 2018. Rojas brings greater flexibility in that he can play infield and outfield positions. The decision may come down to veteran experience or youthful versatility.

Diamondbacks' Jon Jay: Joins Diamondbacks on minors deal
Jay signed a minor-league deal with the Diamondbacks which includes an invitation to big-league camp Monday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
Jay battled hip issues throughout the 2019 season and managed just a .267/.311/.315 slash line (70 wRC+) with zero homers or steals in 47 games when healthy. The veteran has managed just a single above-average batting line in the last five seasons and likely has his work cut out for him just to earn a bench role.
